About the Workshop Day 1 Grief and its Complications: Conceptualization and Diagnosis
In the first day of the 4-day workshop, the concepts of adaptive grief (AG) and complicated grief (CG) together with the relevant Attachment and Meaning-Oriented models (DPM, TTMB, meaning reconstruction) that helps to explain these concepts will be introduced. Concepts and theories will be further elucidated through case sharing with brief video clips, these will include: 1) Margaret, who lost her husband Tom in later life to cancer; and 2) Tricia and Scott, who lost their daughter Christina to suicide. This workshop would include both new data and practice methods. A narrative therapy technique of "introducing our loved ones" to foster a constructive continuing bond with the deceased will be introduced in the morning session, and the afternoon session will be concluded with a significant video on the case of Deborah (initial assessment session), a 43-year-old woman stuck in CG after the death of her mother, which audience members would use interactively to practice identification of symptoms of CG.

a variety of narrative techniques such as correspondence with the deceased as well as imaginal conversations and analogical listening, which participants would practice.

of Stressful Life Experiences Scale. The workshop would also offer a frame for detailed work on advanced practice methods, such as restorative retelling procedures and chair work, with demonstration and small group practice. Imagery and position work (to deal with resistance) will also be introduced.

Day 3 Grief Therapy over Time

In the third day of the 4-day workshop, the core working case will be that of Cara, a mother whose daughter died in utero, and was stillborn. The workshop would feature research on parental bereavement, spiritual struggle, and disturbance of sleep and dreams, as well as background attention to family systems. Techniques presented and practiced with participants will include virtual dream stories and the life imprint as a way of working on the continuing bond. New research material will also be introduced, such as qualitative coding of the entire session to reveal moments and categories of change across sessions.

Intended audience
Professionals and volunteers who work with issues of loss and grief (this may include counselors, social workers, psychologists, teachers, nurses, and others)
