Key concepts: different types of crazes, shifts across the years. Objectives: Practice reading, speaking and listening skills; Practice vocabulary focusing on the terminology specific to different crazes, and grammar in expressing present, past and future ability. Develop imagination through creativity-related activities;

Skills developed: reading, conversational skills, listening skills; Teaching techniques: individual work, question and answer activity, brainstorming, conversation; Materials needed: Handouts; Textbook; Board;

Activity 1. Warm up

Aim: create an adequate environment for the lesson write the date on the blackboard

Materials: Timing: 2 Interaction: T-Ss Activities: Greet Ask general questions (e.g. how are you today?)

Activity 2. Lead in
Aim: Introduce the topic: crazes. Encourage conversation on the topic, ask for opinions. (What do you think they are?)

Materials: board; Timing: 3 Interaction: T-Ss Activities: T asks Ss about the types of crazes the know. Ss try to answer the questions, if they do not know, T suggests possible answers. T asks them to write in their notebooks the title: Crazes across the ages, and to copy from the board the definition of the word craze, taken from the Oxford dictionary.

Activity 3. Presentation and practice

3.1. Reading a text from the text book. Practice reading skills; Verify the level of comprehension of the text; practice speaking skills.

Materials: text book. Timing: 15 Interaction: T-Ss Activities: T reads the text, then the Ss read it. Discussion about the text, by answering the questions from exercise 4b.

3.1. Types of crazes Aim: Practice listening skills Practice speaking skills Learning new terminology

Materials: board Timing: 10 Interaction: Ss-T, Ss-Ss Activities: T ask them if they are familiar with the objects presented on the board and tells them pieces of information about some of them, such as the hula-hoop, the skateboard, the bicycle. (when they were used, by whom). T asks them which of the objects they tend to use more often, and which they can not use. T asks Ss to draw a time-line for crazes using the informations they have, and gives them 2 minutes to do it.

3.2. Expressing ability Aim: Practice writing skills Practice speaking skills

Materials: handouts Timing: 8 Interaction: Ss-T, Ss-Ss Activities: T asks them to discuss in pairs about which object the can, or can not use (2 min), then tells them to can, could, be able to for expressing past/present/future ability using the examples form the language box. T gives handouts, and asks them to resolve the exercise in pairs (4 min). Ss read the exercise and the T checks it.

3.3. Practice. Expressing opinions. Aim: Practice speaking skills

Materials: Timing: 5 Interaction: Ss-Ss, T-Ss Activities: T asks the following questions: What do you think about the crazes we have mentioned? Which do you like most? How can you comment upon the differences between the ages given the time-line you made earlier? Homework: Imagine the world in the future. Invent your own craze for the year 3012. 4
