Social aspect Peruvian Amazon The development of oil industry in Peruvian Amazon generates a social and cultural impact

to the local community. Local community people have loss their institutions, rituals, knowledge and practices due to the oil activity in the area (Martinez O and Finer M, 2010, pg 212, line 7). Nowadays, most engineers continue to uncritically believe that power of

technology could transform a society yet holding on the assumption that all this technological development on the community happens independently from society or culture (Lucena, J., Schneider, J. and Leydens, J., 2010, pg 2, line 20). It is to believe oil development in the area had also brought in most of the high technologies appliances for the community. Younger generation would always adapt to the new technologies and eventually phase out their own custom and culture. Achuar which is one of the tribe which has been living long in the area has loss their natural source of food. Oil pollution has affected the daily activity of Achuar communities such as fishing and hunting (Martinez O and Finer M, 2010, pg 212, line 16). Besides that, new technologies which had been brought in by the petroleum companies also improved their equipments for food hunting. For example, local community had been introduced with firearms which are much more harmful to the environment compare to the traditional method of blowguns. Another factor would be the influx of people moving in the area due to the job opportunities offered by the oil industry company. The increase of population growth would also means influencing the culture among the communities.

Oil development in Ecuadorian Amazon Local reports that oil contamination in Ecuador has damaged the peoples health through three primary routes which is skin absorption, ingestion of food and drink and inhalation of oil on dust or soot particles. Oil development company did not take the initiative to control the waste toxic from oil development and cause an impact on the society. Engineers should understand the challenges of working with communities, to help the society and re-imagine themselves not just as problem solvers but also a listeners and facilitators who will take care the wealth fare people around the development area

(Lucena, J., Schneider, J. and Leydens, J., 2010, pg 5, line 13). Health safety for the local residents in Ecuador should be one of the top priority rather than just saving cost for the oil company. Engineers need to understand the complex connections among sustainability, community and development work rather than taking the community for granted (Lucena, J., Schneider, J. and Leydens, J., 2010, pg 7, line 10). Report concludes that the government and oil companys failure to prevent the contamination of the area constitutes to a violation of the citizens human rights to health and healthy environment (Centre for Economic and Social Rights, 1994, pg x, line 9). Oil company did not take reasonable precautions to avoid contaminating the environment in a manner. In addition, private actors were not well regulated effectively to prevent such contamination. Local residents victim from the contamination should have receive the judicial remedies and access to relevant information.
