Introduction Internet is the best avenue for people from all over the world ,with different background

, culture and other set of traits to interact with each other . This has paved way for the concept of social networking sites which provides an opportunity to participate in various online social activities . Some of the attractive features of social networking sites like user friendliness ,easy access , free of use and other have indeed provided pace for the development of this concept . Attributes of social networking sites may be like gallery, music sharing, video sharing etc. India is not far behind when it comes to social networking sites. There are numerous social networking sites providing an array of options and attractions to lure in potential users .The vast majority of users are youth particularly students , although it is used by other class of people also. In earlier times , the only mode of staying connected with people in far off places was through letters and emails . But information technology scenario has proved to be useful in this regard. Social networking is where great majority of Indians spend time. According to comscore , a marketing research firm , 84% of Indians internet audience visit social networking sites, making it the worlds seventh largest market , and its growing faster than even before. Due to popularity of this sites advertisements and promotion have been on the increase and are proved to be worthy. Near and dear ones ,it has also been used for business purposes also. By way of scouting for potential customers and target markets can been identified much easily, and advertisement and promotional strategies can be deviced based on this. And moreover a company can build credibility by keeping in touch with the customers at both personal and professional level

Main objective
The main objective of the study is to understand the usage pattern of social networking sites in NITTE .

Sub Objectives
To study the awareness of social network sites among students of NITTE To indtify the factory that has led to the opening of social network site by the students To know the mode of accessing social networking sites. To understand the preferred social networking site among students. To know the frequency of using social networking sites. To know the time spent on social networking sites per visit. To find the location of using social networking sites. To understand the reasons for accessing social networking sites. To study the popularity of sites based on customer response. To evaluate social networking sites by the students based on speed , user friendliness and ease of usage . To study the satisfaction level of using social networking sites. Need for study : Now a days , users of the social networking sites are increasing rapidly. We find thousands of people of all ages accessing these sites .We are conducting this study to understand the usage quality of social networking sites by the students . Its an attempt to know why social networking sites are popular among students . Research Methodology A systematic way of solving any research problem is by using research methodology . It studies the various steps that are generally adopted by a researher in studying the research problem . Data source The research method followed throughout the study is of descriptive type . The information needed for the project has been collected through primary data and secondary data.

The primary data is collected for the first time and thus happen to be original in character . Survey was administered through structured questionnaires, and face to face interview with the students who use social networking sites frequently in Nitte . The secondary data is collected from journals , magazines, news papers and websites. Data Collection The variable determined for the study is to identify the usage pattern of social networking sites by students in Nitte . In order to solve the research problem, samples taken are the students of Nitte area . The sample size is 100 students and the data will be collected through structured questionnaires and face to face interview . The method of sampling used for the study is Non-Probability and judgemental sampling will be done . this method is selected because the collected on structured questionnaire bases as well as face to face interview with the students of Nitte . Data Analysis The data collected through structured questionnaires and face to face interview form the students will be analyzed with the help of statistical tools and presented in the form of tables and different charts. The software used for this analysis is SPSS package . Scope of the study The study is conducted to know the usage pattern of social networking sites on students. The respondents of this study would be students aged 18-25 yrs. The study is conducted for two months and the sample size taken for the study is 150 students . The location of the study would be NITTE UNIVERSITY. Limitations: Despite all the possible efforts to make the analysis pure, comprehensive and scientific a study of present kind is bound to have certain limitations The following are the limitations of the study: 1. The duration of 2 months is insufficient to carry out an exhaustive study.

2. The scope of the study is restricted to nitte. 3. There is a possibility of respondents being bias while answering the questions. 4. The sample size selected is 150 respondents only therefore it is very difficult to give accurate judgement on the of this limited sample.
