DVHS CLUBS

ACADEMIC DECATHLON The purpose of Academic Decathlon is to supplement the activities of the corresponding class, serve as a stress reliever, appropriate funds for materials, and offer the opportunity to join the Academic Decathlon Team to all members of the student body. AIR FORCE JR. RESERVE OFFICER TRAINING CORPS (AFJROTC) The objectives of JROTC are to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship, promote community service, instill responsibility, character, and self-discipline, and provide instruction in air and space fundamentals. The AFJROTC program is grounded in the Air Force core values of integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do. The curriculum emphasizes the Air Force heritage and traditions, the development of flight, applied flight sciences, military aerospace policies, and space exploration. ART CLUB The Art Club encourages student appreciation of the arts. It sponsors a campus art show and promotes art throughout the campus. Members plan the art show and go on art-related field trips. BAND The Band provides musical experiences and cultural enrichment through performance and community service and promote school spirit through activities, athletic events, and pep assemblies. BEST BUDDIES Best Buddies is a nonprofit organization that enhances the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. We pair student volunteers in fun, enriching, one-to-one friendships with other students who have intellectual disabilities. BOWLING The D.V.H.S. Bowling Team is part of the West Valley High School Bowling League which provides high school students an opportunity to experience the spirit of team competition and community pride while participating in a sport they can enjoy the rest of their lives. BROADCASTING CLUB (MEDIA PRODUCTIONS) The purpose of the DV Broadcasting Club is to promote and support communication at DVHS. The Broadcasting Club will also be an avenue for students to learn about and participate in video broadcasting and radio production. CHOIR CLUB Choir Club promotes the choirs though social activities and fundraising, and it supports the overall vocal program at Deer Valley High School. CHRISTIAN CLUB ON CAMPUS (CCC) The purpose of this club is to have fellowship with other Christians on campus, learn more about applying the Bible to daily life, have a positive influence on other students on campus, develop a stronger personal relationship with Christ and have fun doing it. CLOSE-UP GOVERNMENT CLUB Close-Up provides a close-up look at American Government with a week-long trip to the nations capitol. In Washington, D.C., students have the opportunity to meet with government leaders and staff members and to question them about their roles in current issues. The group raises funds to assist students with the cost of the trip. DANCE CLUB The Dance Clubs purpose is to promote interest in dance and through fundraising support the dance program at Deer Valley High School. DECA DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. DECA activities assist in the development of academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders. DRAMA/THESPIAN CLUB This club includes students interested in participating in theater-related activities. Actors, techies, designers, etc. are all welcome. Each year we attend the annual thespian conference FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES FCA is a non-denominational, student-led organization that provides bi-weekly meetings after school. Students also promote local benevolence activities for those in need. It is not necessary to be an athlete to join. FLAGLINE/WINTERGUARD The organization shall be to promote auxiliary members. This organization will be in charge of the finances and calendar of events for the flagline.

GLEE CLUB The purpose of the Glee Club is to provide students with an enjoyable, informative, and productive atmosphere to learn, rehearse, and perform music. H.A.P.P.E PAWS CLUB (HELPING ANIMALS PERSERVERE THROUGH POSITIVE ENGAGEMENT) The H.A.P.P.E Paws club will raise awareness on campus about the plight of homeless animals and will hold activities that will benefit animal welfare nonprofits in Arizona. IMPACT/FCCLA Membership in IMPACT/FCCLA can be an after school membership or class membership by being enrolled in a life management class. Its purpose is to develop leadership skills, to promote public service, and to provide social activity for the group. INTEGRAL CLUB The Integral Club is committed to the ideal of technology in education. To this end we conduct fundraisers and solicit donations to purchase and upgrade computers for teachers in and out of the classroom setting. INTERACT CLUB The purpose of Interact is to provide opportunity for young people to work together in a world fellowship dedicated to service and international understanding. INTERNATIONAL CLUB International Club promotes interest in and understanding of other countries and cultures. Activities may include games, movies, celebration of events such as Cinco de Mayo and Mardi Gras. International Club is open to all students. INVISIBLE CHILDREN/SCHOOLS FOR SCHOOLS This club supports the world wide non-profit organization, Invisible Children. This organization helps to bring freedom to the Child Soldiers in Uganda, Africa. In the club, members participate in fund raising and advertising events to help support a school for impoverished Ugandan children. KEY CLUB Key Club is a high school service organization committed to service in the school and community. Its aim is the development of initiative, leadership ability, and good citizenship practice in students. LIFESAVERS CLUB The purpose of this club is to provide opportunities for students who are interested in health careers. Opportunities include volunteering at different health care facilities, fund raising for community projects in the field of health care, learning more about health careers, attending professional development conferences and workshops, and networking with health care professionals. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Membership in NHS is an honor bestowed a student by the faculty. Selection of membership is based on outstanding scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Selection and induction occur each spring. NEWSPAPER (SKYHAWK FLIGHT) This organizations purpose is to gather information relating to school news, current events, and news of interest to students and the community, to arrange truthfully this material in a non-biased and informative and entertaining way, and to publish the printed material for the school and the surrounding community, free of charge. OUCHIE CLUB The Ouchie club teaches students how to deal with athletic injuries. They deliver water, tape athletes and help prepare athletes for practice and games on a regular basis. PHYSICS CLUB Physics Club is to further student interest in the field of Physics. Membership is open to students who currently are enrolled in Physics or students who have taken Physics in the past. QUEST The Quest club produces a literary magazine which is open for all student submissions in poetry, short story and artwork. QUILL & SCROLL The Quill & Scroll clubs purpose is to recognize students who have produced superior work in some phase of journalism and/or school publication(s). SCIENCE CLUB The Science Club was formed to help expand knowledge of the environment and science related material and to help clean-up and preserve the environment in our community.

SKILLS USA Skills USA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. Skills USA helps each student excel. Skills USA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations. SOCIETY OF FEMALE SCHOLARS Society of Female Scholars is an honorary academic organization for female students who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. The intent of our association is to recognize the efforts of female scholars on the Deer Valley campus, and to encourage young women to explore the many educational and career opportunities that await them after high school. SOCIETY OF MALE SCHOLARS Society of Male Scholars in an honorary academic organization for male students who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher. The mission of the club is to expand the knowledge of real world career and educational opportunities of high school students and bring forth people that are part of todays society to speak about real life situations and events. SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY The Spanish Honor Society is dedicated to the advancement of Spanish on our campus. It is sponsored nationally by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Students must maintain an honor average in the study of Spanish for at least three semesters to be eligible for membership. STUDENT GOVERNMENT Members of Student Government are elected and must enroll in the class for credit. The purpose of Student Government is to establish and maintain a more effective and active form of student leadership, to voice the will of the students, to encourage cooperation among students and faculty, and to promote the general welfare of the students. WRESTLING CHEER Wrestling Cheer promotes school spirit and good sportsmanship and supports Deer Valley wrestlers through cheers and spirit. YEARBOOK This organizations purpose is to gather information relating to school news and history, to place this material in a non-biased and formative and entertaining way and to publish the printed material for the school in the yearbook.
