Reflective Essay

My time in ENG 102 has been very enlightening. I have become a better writer and have gain a better knowledge of the use of technology encompassing into literature works. Some of the stories we had to read about gave me very little insight into my own learning and then there were others that made me stop and think. Those made me question my thoughts, beliefs and values. In the Dr. Kevorkian exert, I saw a different side of this man. Even though I cannot commend what he has done, his character was commendable. He was the epitome of what a doctor should be, and several doctors could take a page from his bedside manner and care and compassion for his patients. In the Harrison Bergeron essay, it was an eye opening essay on how much we use label and stereotype on how we see people. This story gave a view of what society would look like if everyone was equal and there was no competition among us. In some ways that is all good but without competition no one would succeed because there would be no one who has the edge or was just a little better in one way or another. Society needs the soft gentle nudge of competition to keep us striving to meet someone elses standards, not because they are better than us, but to make us rise to our potential. The last story we read was about lying and this one was a struggle for me. I have been raised in a part of time when this was frowned upon. Your word was your bond and even if it was a small little white lie, it was better to be up front instead of bending your point of view to not hurt the other person. No matter how you look at it a lie is a lie and the reason you are lying is because you are afraid to be

Wilson 2 honest and not hurt the other persons feeling or face the consequences of your actions. The story was through in explaining the reason people lie and the different types of lies we tell. Some people just did not want to offend the other person or just did not want them to know where they were and what they were doing. This story cause me to look inward and examine my motivates on the reasons that I would even stoop to lie to someone close to me. I have always expected my children to be up front with me, even if the choice they made was not good, sometimes their honest might be the deciding factor. The stories that were chosen I felt cause personal reflection and examination of our own views. If we cannot begin to look at what makes us who we are than when we are out in the real world so to speak we might crumb. I think the stories that Mr. Neuberger chose were just what we as students needed on our path into society. On the technology part of this class, I thoroughly enjoyed incorporating into each piece of work we did in class. Mr. Neuberger did an exceptional job of explain and showing how to use the type of technology we used. From the films, videos, blogging and other types, I have gain a knowledge that will now follow me throughout the rest of my life. When he showed The Film Unfinished during our research paper on the Holocaust, I was giving a new perspective on what really happened during this tragic event in our history. To see the monstrosity that one man could impose on a people just because they did not look a certain way was just ghastly; this research paper has forever changed my view on this subject and opened my eyes to what they really endured. I enjoyed getting to learn more about this from personal experiences and the website on the Holocaust. I never learned half of the information that I gleaned from my research paper. I encourage our future generation to take the time when studying the Holocaust to do some research on it and compare what you find to what you are learning in your textbooks. Wilson 2 German, my great-great-grandfather left to come to America right before the terrible tragedy happened and I just wondered if they had not escaped if I might not be here today. Our last project was the digital story it by far was the best project and the one I enjoyed the most. Learning how to make my own video and import different types of technology into it and create just what I wanted was exciting and frustrating all at the same time. I have learned to love movie maker and audacity and how well they can make any video great. Thank you for teaching me and showing that there is nothing that I cannot achieve if I stick to it. This class has been by far one of my favorites and I have enjoyed coming to class each day and learning from you, Mr. Neuberger. You have inspired me and have help mold my views just a little more. Even when I thought that I was done growing, you opened another door of learning for me. I will cherish my time in here and I enjoyed this class in its entirety. In my opinion there is nothing that needs to change in this class.
