Estimation of travel time from Spot Speed data

For the estimation of travel time from spot speed data measured at three stations within
the 3 km stretch of road, we divide the 3 km stretch of road into two parts - Link 1 and
Link 2. Link joining Station A and Station C is Link 1 and link joining Station C and
Station C is Link 2. We estimate travel time from spot speed data of station A,B and C
using three approaches described below-

Approach 1:
The model assumes that the vehicles entering station A have a constant speed which is
the spot speed measured at station A, throughout Link 1. Then we assume that vehicles
entering the station A, have a constant speed which is the spot speed measured at Station
C, throughout Link 2. Travel times are calculated for both the above cases and then take
an average which is the final estimated travel time.

Approach 2:
In approach 2, we consider that the vehicles have a constant speed throughout the link
which is the average of the spot speed measured at stating and ending stations of that link.

Approach 3:
In this approach, we consider that the vehicles have a constant speed throughout the link
which is the minimum speed between the two spot speeds measured at starting and
ending station of that link.
