EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FORM

SUPPORTING STATEMENT

Why do you think you are a particularly suitable candidate for this Excellence Scholarship?

With the advent of oil and gas discovery in Ghana and booming energy sector I believe this is the right time for me to return to school to study more about MSc (Eng) Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy Systems. I choose this program because I believe it will give me theoretical and practical experience in this field to make me more marketable and also help me contribute to making the oil find a blessing to my country with respect to making appropriate laws and policies. Practical engineering has always been my focus. During my undergraduate studies at the Electronics/Electrical department of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Ghana, subjects like Control systems, C-Programming, power system analysis, and Digital Communication Systems interested me the most. I was awestruck by the potential of artificial intelligent and neural networks in the predictive and forecasting ability for planning purposes. I was now determined to focus on neural network programming in my Final Year project. I design and programmed a Neural Network to predict the Energy Consumption of KNUST in a given time by training my ANN model with past energy data. With four years Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Electronic engineering, I bring along a strong grasp of fundamentals in Electronics and Power system analysis, Control and instrumentation, an aptitude of learning and team work, a zeal for challenges and an enthusiastic desire to learn all I can. I would like to take with me, in addition to knowledge gain from my course of study, a network of strong and lasting relationships with my teachers and fellow-students. From my background as electrical engineering student and moving to Renewable energy sector I think this course would be a perfect start for me. My long time plan is to go into studying Renewable energy laws from other countries where oil and gas has been a blessing to them like America, UK, Australia and the likes to bring it to Ghana to participate in decision making so that Ghana can enjoy the best from this oil fine. As a son of the Western Region(the oil production area) I also want to champion the cause of the native people to help especially the youth of my areas with the knowledge I will acquire at the end of the day so that they can also enjoy from the oil fine. It is also my vision to Champion the cordial coexistence of the oil companies and our traditional communities with my influence and understanding This scholarship will not only facilitate my schooling but will also challenge me into achieving the above enumerated goals. As a student from a developing country and with my academic performance I believe I can achieve more when given the opportunity to study in the UK with financially sound mind
