Highest incidence of all reported sexual offences, highest incidence of common assault and gender violence. 98 % of all Tik users are from the Western Cape.
Other statistics: Prevalence rate of the Eden District of 16%; Unemployment rate of 23%; High Substance Abuse
GBV is high on the agenda of Eden District Municipality. Empower citizens in abusive situations To create positive and sustainable livelihoods. Encouraging citizens to air their views and speak out against violence and abuse.

All Municipalities within the Eden DM area of jurisdiction; Civil Society; Businesses; Schools; Government Departments (Dept of Correctional Services, Dept of Health, South African Police Services)

CREATIVITY: ARE YOU USING ARTS, CULTURE, MEDIA AND SOCIAL MEDIA TO POPULARISE THE ISSUES?
Media: Eden District Municipalitys Communication Unit engaged with all local media including the local radio for marketing and reporting. Pamphlets and posters were distributed at schools, clinics, churches and other community facilities. Ward committee members were utilised to hold information sessions in their wards.
Arts & culture: A local and national drama (containing hidden messages of the specific topics) were performed at the events; A local group, namely Chronics, municipal talent winners, as well as a church brigade performed at the opening ceremony.
The rights of the abused, as well as other general information reached the communities in most of the wards; Commitment of community members during the campaign Knowledge and confidence among community members Participants took ownership of the programme; A positive competitive spirit was fostered at the District competition; Various groups got an opportunity to showcase their talents; Civil Society, Government Departments, local Government as well as the Business sector engaged towards a common programme;
Article 27: HIV and AIDS: This programme has promoted the objectives of the NSP of SA.
LESSONS LEARNED

The programme should be rolled out as a 365 days intervention which is in line with the national gender framework A more progressive marketing and communication strategy; Sourcing of external financial contributions at an earlier stage; A more robust engagement with the Business sector; Winners to be trained as Peer Educators; Greater commitment from the local Municipalities.
