ICT Web Site Report

Web Site Report Overview

In the form of a web site report critically evaluate the benefits of ICT for teaching and learning in the secondary school language classroom. In your web site report you need to demonstrate evidence that you have critically evaluated a number of ICT resources and trialled at least one in the classroom during your school experience. Your overall learning aims should be to teach either a given language point or a specified skill with a clearly identified group of Malaysian secondary school learners in mind. You need to critically consider ways in which ICT can inform and support English language teaching in Malaysia highlighting strengths and possible areas of concern.

Approximately 2000 words

Lesson plans to be included in your web site

In order to help you critically consider ICT from the perspective of teaching and learning develop 4 micro lessons based on the KS3 English National Curriculum.

You should include the following in your lesson plans:

1 Elearning should be embedded as far as possible into each lesson

2 There should be a lesson in each of the four key areas of the Key Stage 3 National Curriculum: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening

3 Explain how and why you would adapt your lesson for a Malaysian context. Remember to contrast different contexts Demonstrate your knowledge of the Secondary English Curriculum

4 Justify your choice of learning technology in your lesson plans with reference to policy and literature

5 Critically consider the learning technologies selected with reference to policy and literature.

6 When referring to practitioner based knowledge in your report you must remember to critically contextualise it with reference to local, national and international policy and the literature.

7 Remember that lessons plans or your own ICT observation documents from school /lessons and School policies can support your web site. They are not considered as part of the word count but rather as appendices. You can treat them as appendices in the report, make links to them and number them accordingly.

Google doc collaborative project You will work in randomly allocated groups of 5. This is an interactive collaborative, independent learning project. You will collaboratively write and review each learning technology you have found in a google doc.

You have brainstormed learning technologies in the Week 4 seminar session. The google doc project will be started in Week 5 in our computer session in Park. You will state the strengths, weaknesses, practical considerations of as many different learning technologies you can think of and explain how it could be used in a Malaysian context. As the list emerges you will organise your list into useful headings that help you make sense of all the learning technologies available and their value for you as English teachers. This collaborative and interactive group project informs your practitioner based knowledge. You are competing with 9 groups (5 in each) and there will be three prizes to award the most innovative, creative learning technologists who demonstrate an interest in the transformative value of ICT when used effectively as a learning resource in the classroom.

We will review the google docs learning technologies project at the end of the semester.
