What is WBT Certification?


Whole Brain Teaching certication is available at a variety of competency levels from Novice to International Presenter (see next page). A certied WBT educator has demonstrated the ability to effectively use core classroom management strategies and instructional materials available at WholeBrainTeaching.com. Letters of recommendation and awards that accompany WBT Certication can be used as signicant supplements to an educator's professional resume.

How do you earn Certification Points?


The majority of your WBT Certication Points are earned by simply writing online about your WBT teaching experiences. You can earn points by posting notes on our forum at WholeBrainTeaching.com or by creating a WBT blog (use blogger.com or any other free, blog creation website). Each entry must be 250+ words. Put your entries, with the date they were created, in a word processing le. When you reach 10 excellent entries, send the le attached to an email to Nancy Stoltenberg Director of WBT Certication, stoltenb@gmail.com. Allow two weeks for processing. You will be notied by email describing the number of Certication Points and Certication Medallions (page 5) you have earned. In addition, Ms. Stoltenberg will assign your next steps in WBT Certication.

What is the Certification Point (CP) scale?


Note: All blog and forum posts must be a minimum of 250 words. 25 Certication Points: Using free ebooks and videos available at WholeBrainTeaching.com, write a thoughtful blog or forum post about any of the following: SuperSpeed 100, SuperSpeed 1000, SuperSpeed Math, The Genius Ladder, Oral Writing (all previous on page 10), The Big Seven (Class-Yes, Five Rules, Scoreboard, Teach-Okay, Mirror, Hands & Eyes, Switch), or a WBT YouTube video, You can also earn 25 CP by gaining 25 followers on your blog. Finally, you can write about any lesson incorporating WBT materials or techniques not listed above. 50 Certication Points: Write a thoughtful blog or forum post about any of the webcasts in the middle of the homepage at WholeBrainTeaching.com (page 9), a Five Step Lesson Plan (page 13) or gain 50 followers on your blog (page 8). 75 Certication Points: Create an artistic blog (page 8) 100 Certication Points: Write a blog or forum post about a WBT conference you attended (page 13), your Super Improvers Wall (page 12), your Power Pix Wall (page 12). In addition, you can create a sample video demonstrating WBT techniques (send an electronic link to the video to Nancy Stoltenberg, stoltenb@gmail.com), or gain 100 followers on your blog, 500 Certication Points: After receiving approval from Ms. Stoltenberg, stoltenb@gmail.com, begin working on an Exemplary Video (page 7) demonstrating WBT techniques Other Certication Points: See page 11.

How can you earn cool CP Medallions?


Look at these cool Certication Point Medallions! When you write great forum or blog posts, the Secret Awarder may read your notes and electronically send you a CP Medallion! Cross your ngers!! When Ms. Stoltenberg reviews your le with its 10 outstanding forum or blog posts, she will determine which posts merit CP Medallions. Thus, you can win CP medallions in two ways: from the Secret Awarder or the Director of WBT Certication!

What should your remember?


1. You become a Board Certied WBT educator by earning Certication Points. 2. Certication Points (CP) may be earned in any of the following ways: -- writing blog or forum posts (250 words minimum) about any Whole Brain Teaching strategy, game, ebook, video, webcast or conference. -- CP points can also be earned by creating an artistic blog, attracting followers to your blog, increasing the total number of your forum posts or by creating Sample or Exemplary Videos. 3. To apply for Certication, copy your 10 best dated posts and other WBT achievements (blog, video, total number of forum posts) into a word processing le. Send the le to Nancy Stoltenberg, Director of WBT Certication, stoltenb@gmail.com. Allow 2 weeks for processing. 4. When you achieve Level 5 Certication, you will receive a Certicate of Achievement (page 14) and a letter of recommendation that can be added to your professional resume. 5. You gain coveted Certication Point Medallions from the Secret Awarder or from Ms. Stoltenberg after she reviews your le of 10 forum or blog posts. 6. For further information about Certication, contact Ms. Stoltenberg at the email address above. To let everyone know you are a FTBRW (Force To Be Reckoned With) start signing your forum posts with your total CP. Thus: William Yeats 475 CP. Strategy: The easiest way to gain CP is probably to create a blog and start advertising it on the forum at WholeBrainTeaching.com and other websites. With one CP for every follower, you'll be racking up points while you sleep.

Video Certification Point Medallions

Sample Video Medallion: A Sample Video demonstrates for 5-7 minutes your Whole Brain Teaching skill with your students. Please use Class-Yes, Teach-Okay and the Scoreboard. In addition, add any other WBT techniques appropriate to your lesson. So that your Sample Video can be posted on YouTube, students must have lled out your school's or district's video permission slips. When the video is posted, send an electronic link to Nancy Stoltenberg, stoltenb@gmail.com. 100 Certication Points: a Sample Video is required before creating an Exemplary Video.

Exemplary Video Medallion: An Exemplary Video demonstrates for 5-7 minutes your Whole Brain Teaching skill with your students. Please use Class-Yes, Teach-Okay and the Scoreboard. In addition, add any other WBT techniques appropriate to your lesson. So that your Exemplary Video can be posted on YouTube, students must have lled out your school's or district's video permission slips. When you are ready to begin creating your video, seek Ms. Stoltenberg's help at stoltenb@gmail.com. 500 Certication points: an Exemplary Video is required for advancement to Level 5, WBT Board Certied Instructor.

Artistic Blog Medallion: The Artistic Blog medallion is awarded to Whole Brain Teaching blogs which creatively use photographs, background art, links to other education blogs and other electronic embellishments to create an attractive, engaging portrait of your passion for WBT. When you have 10 outstanding blog or forum posts, send them to Nancy Stoltenberg, stoltenb@gmail.com along with an link to your artistic blog. 75 Certication Points.

Blog Followers Medallion: Blog Followers Medallions are earned by attracting followers to your blog. You earn 1 CP for every follower! Write great blog posts, advertise your blog on the WholeBrainTeaching.com forum and other internet sites. When you have 10 outstanding blog or forum posts, send them to Nancy Stoltenberg, stoltenb@gmail.com Include a link to your blog so that your Certication Points for followers may be tabulated. 25-100 Certication Points.

SuperSpeed 100 Medallion: SuperSpeed 100 and Electronic SuperSpeed 100 are games in which students set and break personal and team records for how quickly they can read the100 most common sight words. The Genius Ladder Medallion: The Genius Ladder, one of our most popular language arts strategies, is a powerful, teacher led game for developing students thinking and writing skills. Students advance from simple sentences to short paragraphs. The Genius Ladder is described in video 504 in the middle of the homepage at WholeBrainTeaching.com. Blog or Forum Posts (250 word minimum) are worth 25 Certication points. Post Medallion: When you write a reective post on the forum at WholeBrainTeaching.com, you may be notied online by the Secret Awarder and earn this lovely Medallion worth 10 Certication Points. Good posts describe teaching successes (or problems), new ideas about WBT or offer helpful hints for other educators.

Industrial Strength Post Medallion: When you write a remarkable post on the forum, you may be notied online by the Secret Awarder and earn this Industrial Strength Post Medallion worth 25 Certication Points.

Total Posts Medallion: Every ve posts on the forum at WholeBrainTeaching.com, potentially scores one Certication Point. Thus, if you have 100 posts (of reasonable length), you've could earn 20 Certication Points; if you have 200 posts, you could earn 40 Certication Points. We are looking for thoughtful contributions. When you apply to Nancy Stoltenberg for Level Advancement, your posts will be reviewed for their merit. Excessive numbers of short posts, "Great job!," "You go girl!" will reduce your total post Certication Points.

Big Seven Medallion: In Whole Brain Teaching, the Big Seven teaching techniques are: Class-Yes, the Five Rules, Teach-Okay, the Scoreboard, Mirror, Hands & Eyes and Switch. Outstanding posts on the forum at WholeBrainTeaching.com or on your WBT blog describing how you used several of the Big Seven in a lesson, can earn you 25 Certication Points.

Instant Bonus Medallion: These treasured medallions can be added to other Medallion Awards. Thus, if you write a truly wonderful account of the Big Seven (25 CP) you may also be awarded an Instant Bonus (25 more CP!)25 Certication Points. When Ms. Stoltenberg reviews your le, she may award some of your forum and blog posts with an Instant Bonus Medallion.

Super Improvers Wall Medallion: The Super Improvers Wall is WBT's most powerful student motivator. Student improvement can be rewarded for academic skill: increasing reading speed, mastering math facts, strengthening writing ability, deepening critical thinking strategies, etc. The Super Improvers Wall can also reward improved classroom behavior in following Rules 1-5, treating others with respect, polishing social skills, etc. The Super Improver Wall is described in video 503. 100 Certication Points (a photograph of your Wall must be included with your forum or blog post).

Power Pix Medallion: Your Power Pix Wall displays all the core concepts you have covered. Power Pix for K-3 in math and language arts are available as downloads under "Free Ebooks" at WholeBrainTeaching.com. For higher grades, many teachers have created their own Power Pix. Thus, if you needed a Power Pix for the quadratic equation, you could simply create a denition and gesture and put the words "quadratic equation" on a sheet of typing paper and, viola, you've created a new Power Pix. 100 Certication Points (a photograph of your Wall must be included with your forum or blog post).

Five Step Lesson Medallion: The Five Step Lesson Plan is one of WBT's core instructional techniques. You lesson plan advances through ve stages: question, answer, expansion, assessment, critical thinking. The Five Step Lesson Plan is described in video 505 in the middle of the homepage at WholeBrainTeaching.com. Blog or forum posts (250 word minimum) are worth 100 Certication Points.

Conference Medallion: After you attend a WBT conference, write a reective forum post or blog note (250 word minimum) about your experiences. Share with others the wonders you discovered. 100 Certication Points.

When you advance to Level 5, Board Certied WBT Teacher, you will receive, via email, two awards. -- a personal letter of recommendation from a member of the WBT Executive Board -- the certicate of achievement on the following page.
