East Coast Group

East Coast Group (ECG) started the maiden journey with a lone company named East Coast Trading Private Limited (ECTL) having its trading area focusing on oil & gas business. The company was established on March 1977 engaged in trading of various commodities, power station equipment, helicopters and accessories, Power Generation, Engineering, Shipping, Manufacturing, Corporate Finance, Banking, Insurance, Logistics and Distribution.

Business Operations
Oil & Energy
ECGs strength lies in the oil and gas sector, which is still soaring as the flagship business of the group. The company has supplied in excess 20 million tons of oil & petroleum products under term contract, spot sale and purchase through its principals over the last 20 years. Major principles include Abu Dhabi National Oil Co., Petronas Trading Corporation Sdn Bhd, Petroleum Authority Thailand, Maldives National Oil Company, BP Singapore Pte Limited, Chevron Texaco, Lukoil Asia Pacific Pte. Limited, Total Fina ELF & Exxon Mobil Corporation. The group now owns and operates a chain of branded filling stations under its corporate umbrella. The group holds majority stake in MJL Bangladesh Ltd. (MJLBL), formerly Mobil Jamuna Lubricants Limited, is the first and only joint venture company established by ExxonMobil in downstream petroleum sector of the country. The group also owns and operates, a chain of branded gas stations and service centers (Clean fuel Filling Stations Ltd) across Bangladesh, under its corporate umbrella.

Shipping
East Coast Shipping Lines Ltd has successfully handled 668 ships that include Oil Tankers, Bulk and Liquid Cargoes, General Import Cargoes, Heavy Lift Cargoes, Dangerous and Hazardous Cargoes Carriers. The total tonnage handled by us has exceeded 27 million tons. EC Bulk Carriers was incorporated as the groups ship owning arm and currently has one bulk carrier (MV OMERA I 41,00DWT) and one crude oil aframax tanker (MT OMERA QUEEN 107,000DWT).

Trading & Distribution


Bangladesh Trade Syndicate Ltd is the local partner of TNT Express (Netherlands), a global logistics expert and is providing its services all across the country. The trading and distribution divisions mainly are focused in oil and gas, being exclusive distributors of high quality lube oil additives Infineum and Chevron Oronite to the blending plants.

Manufacturing
Parkesine Products Limited, is a specialized plastic products manufacturing unit, producing various types of plastic jerry cans and pails for lube oil and paint industry. Nordic Woods Limited is a JV between ECG and Solor Treimpregnering A/S (Norway). It consists of three wood treatment plants with present capacity 14,500 cubic meter of treated wood, equivalent 50,000 different size of wooden pole used for electrification in rural areas of the country.

Power Generation
The power division has built good number of Power Stations at Ghorashal and Siddhirganj. The current total generating capacity of these base load stations are 1160 MW. Now the company has decided to go green and do sustainable energy projects such as participating in government tenders for solar power plants of various capacities with REC Systems (Norway), one of the largest integrated solar solutions provider in the world. Radiant Alliance Ltd a JV vehicle with Surana Telecom (India), is building a 10MW Solar Panel Assembly plant in Ashulia, Bangladesh.

EC Securities Ltd, the investment arm of the company, does the in-house asset management functions and besides maintaining a sizeable portfolio of its own it also provides retail merchant banking solutions. As a stride towards achieving further integration, synergy and leverage in the market ECG has been active in the market for corporate control, investing and having substantial stake in renowned public and private enterprises which span form banks, non banking financial institutions, stock brokerages, real estate, asset management company, life and general insurance companies. Groups own portfolio size is estimated to be over USD 257 Million at current market value. ECG along with a few corporate partners has recently acquired 16 tea estates and 5 rubber factories from English tea company 'Finlays. The Companys origin dates back to 1882 with the incorporation in the UK. Finlays, with a legacy of more than 250 years, has pioneered instant tea research development and production in Bangladesh.

CSR
East Coast Group (ECG) has put top priority in its corporate social responsibilities. Primarily focusing on Education and Health Care, ECG has taken various steps in engaging welfare activities in these fields. The group is also concerned about reducing their carbon footprint, by using measures such as paper recycling, sustainability accounting reporting standards, car-pooling, etc. ECG also actively promotes and sponsors the sport of Golf all over the country, as the management believes that it is an important sporting arena as the country transforms from least developed to an developed economy. Mohtosin Ali Chowdhury Secondary & Higher Secondary School, Kulaura ECG established Mohtosin Ali Chowdhury Secondary & Higher Secondary School in 1990, which is providing accessible education for local underprivileged students. The school has achieved various awards due to the performance of its students and faculty, in recognition of its feats the Honorable Education Minister has sanctioned BDT 2.1 million for construction of a new Science Laboratory. Bakhtunnessa Chowdhury Diabetes Centre, Moulvibazar The Bakhtunnessa Chowdhury Diabetes Centre was established in the year 2000. ECG has so far donated more than BDT 50 million for developing the centre. The centre is providing free medical treatment to poor diabetic patients, it also provides Eye Care and diagnostic facilities including medicines at subsidized cost. Health and Family Welfare Centre, Kadipur ECG has provided land to the Ministry of Health, Government of Bangladesh, for construction of the Health and Family Welfare Centre in Kadipur union. The centre will provide primary medical facilities to the people of this union.
