What is Mentorship program? A unique web-based program to bring the participating BESU alumni and students together to: Foster informal, one-to-one networking Share professional knowledge Counsel in career planning Assist in professional development Build strong future alumni

What are Mentorship Goals?

To build a support system between present students and alumni across the globe to assist students in making the right career and academic choices, and to develop a strong, global network

Who are eligible to participate? What does the program offer?


All present students of BESU (includes undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines) are eligible to benefit from this free and rich program The program is expected to offer:
Frequent and continuous dialogue between the student and the mentor (alumni) on wide ranging topics Assistance to make right career decisions, based on the experience of the mentor Assistance in identifying various research and higher studies opportunities across the globe Assistance in networking with the wider BEC (BESU) alumni community, located in various cities in India and abroad Other career related advices

What the program does not offer?


Financial assistance of any kind. Alumni scholarship program is the right channel for financial assistance during studentship in BESU Job offers, either in India or in abroad. The mentor can and will assist the student (mentee) in identifying opportunities, but the student is ultimately responsible to make that happen, based on his/her academic credentials and skill sets Commitment to provide research or teaching assistantship in universities in India or in overseas. The mentor can and will assist the student (mentee) in identifying higher studies opportunities and/or available scholarship, but the student is ultimately responsible to make that happen, based on his/her academic credentials and financial needs

Time Commitment Exposure to global alumni community Invaluable knowledge / experience of life after graduation

What your mentor expects of you.


Commitment and sincerity Respect the time and commitment from the mentor alumni Confidentiality Maintain the integrity of the program and privacy of your mentor Help networking Help organize alumni seminar and support GAABESU initiatives like scholarships etc. Giving back Commit yourself to be a mentor when you graduate, as a repayment for the cause Do not join the program if you cannot commit

Here are some areas of mutual mentoring interest Higher studies in India / overseas Interest to pursue higher studies in other professional areas - MBA, MCA, Inter-disciplinary Information on sector-specific employment opportunities in India and abroad (Government, Information Technology, Manufacturing etc.) Other personal and professional development

Interested and Committed? Register at the GAABESU office Be ready to provide:


Current year in BESU Department and Expected degree Area(s) of mentoring interest in order of preference Primary email ID If recipient of scholarship or admission grants

What happens after you register? Mentorship Program Office will manually match interest of students and mentors and communicate to you via email. Typical matching criteria:
Need of the student (higher study, career goal, etc) Relevance of Dept. of the student and BEC dept. & area of professional expertise of the mentor Existing commitment and additional criteria established by the mentor/s

Its upon you to make the best out of Mentorship


Once paired with mentor, you are on your own! But here are some tips to make the most of it:
Stay in touch with your mentor periodically Set a realistic expectation - value mentors time commitment Have clear goals and agenda when you interact - its your job to keep the mentor engaged, not the other way round
