QUANTUM Q1000
introduction features
DNP 3.0 Protocol
QUANTUM Q1000 Meter The Q1000 meters support for advanced protocols lets you program the meter for the protocols you already use in your system. You configure the data your system will retrieve from the Q1000 meter using the flexibility of the DNP3.0 and MODBUS protocols. You control the communications.
The Distributed Network Protocol Version 3.0 (DNP 3.0) is a read/write protocol used by SCADA (System Control And Data Acquisition) systems. The DNP 3.0 protocol serves the need for open, standards-based interoperability between substation computers, RTUs (Remote Terminal Units), Intelligent Electronic Devices and master stations for the electric utility industry. The DNP 3.0 protocol configuration file is used with a Protocol Data Server Configuration File (PDS Configuration file). The PDS Configuration file defines the meter data points that will be accessed by the protocol. The DNP 3.0 configuration file includes pointers or indexes indicating the meter data points defined in the PDS configuration file. DNP 3.0 Protocol Features > Versatile read/write protocol used by SCADA systems > Open, standards-based communication > Identification of data and object types to be retrieved by the protocol > Q1000 meters data map referenced by Protocol Data Server (PDS) configuration file Q1000 > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Features Supported in DNP 3.0 Flexible, configurable implementation DNP Level 2 Plus implementation Select from more than 3000 Q1000 meter data items Instantaneous registers (Energy, Demand, Secondary Instantaneous) Most recent self-read: delivered and received: Watts, VARs, VA arith., VA vect., Watts SLC compensated, VARs SLC compensated, VA vect. compensated Most inputs and outputs Threshold alarms Load Profile data (Q1000 meters with firmware v. 5.x and higher) Reset meter clock (Q1000 meters with firmware v. 5.x and higher) Time Of Use rates (Q1000 meters with firmware v. 5.x and higher) Instantaneous harmonics and VQ Event status - state events (on/off) Most non-register values Configured using Protocol Editor software; programmed using the PC-PRO+ 98 system
features
MODBUS The MODBUS Protocol is a messaging structure often used in industrial automation to establish master-slave communication between intelligent devices. There are several versions of the protocol including ASCII, RTU, and Ethernet. Itron supports MODBUS RTU version. Using Protocol Editor, you can define a MODBUS protocol configuration for a QUANTUM Q1000 meter. Configuration for the MODBUS protocol involves setting general configuration items including communication configuration (such as baud rate and address), word order, identifier values, and other miscellaneous configurations. A register dataset configuration defines the map of Q1000 data onto the MODBUS data spaces: coils, discretes, holding registers, and input registers. The MODBUS message that is sent from the master to the slave contains the address of the slave, the command function, such as read register or write register, the data, and a check sum. The Q1000 implementation supports scaled data as element types. Several integer element types including Integer 16-bit, Integer 32bit, scaled primary, and scaled secondary. This flexibility has advantages for different applications.
