BIODIESEL; THE FUEL OF TOMORROW, TODAY! With strong legislative support from the European Union, biodiesel has currently replaced 2% of the mineral diesel use in member countries. The goal is to increase usage to 5.75% by 2010 in order to reduce dependence on foreign oil and to cut back on greenhouse gas emissions. In order to hit this target, additional production of several million tons of biodiesel is required per year.

RIGHT CHOICE FOR FEEDSTOCK Feedstock selection plays a key role in the successful production of biodiesel. Virgin vegetable oils are ideal for production because they are clean, pure and need little or no pretreatment. Used edible oils, are less expensive, but require more attention, as their chemical and physical properties can vary between collection sites. Animal tallow represents the least costly feedstock, but requires pre and post production treatment.

BIODIESEL A SIMPLE AFFAIR Biodiesel is the product of a chemical reaction called transesterification. This takes place when the feedstock oil is mixed with alcohol (methanol) in the presence of a catalyst (KOH). The reaction results in a compound called fatty acid methyl ester (F.A.M.E. or biodiesel) and a by-product G-Phase (Primarily glycerin). The final product is biodiesel meeting all standards and norms.

Operations controlled by one qualified operator who supervises the machine. It is required that the operator undergo a special training for the CPU in our production site prior to the delivery. The operator and all involved personnel should have good technical skills, knowledge about handling of chemicals and common sense.
