Schnell Before learning how chemistry teaches us how to think, we must learn what chemistry is. Chemistry is the science of what and how things are made in everyday life. Chemistry is like the math of science. It defines everything in this world and gives us logical explanations too. Chemistry has taught us many things such as elements, atoms, atomic fusion and fission, etc. Learning chemistry can open up our minds to new questions and help us solve many problems in life. It can also affect our thought process in a positive way. After learning chemistry, we explore different combinations with everyday objects. In ways we have never realized, chemistry has taught us how to think. Learning about chemistry can make us ask new questions. For example, when we learn that hydrogen is an atom with one electron and proton, we may ask, why? Why does hydrogen have only one atom while the other atoms have more? Why is it that it takes exactly one proton and electron to make a hydrogen atom, why not more? One simple fact: like carbohydrates are made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen; can turn into a string of questions. Why is it that we depend on these specific elements for food when there are over 100 elements on the Earth? Why do we need to eat? Why cant we use solar energy to power our bodies like plants? How do plants get energy from the sun? Why does energy come from the sun and not the moon? Just one fact about the chemistry of carbohydrates turned into questions that go all the way to the moon (literally)! These two examples are proof enough that chemistry not only teaches us how to think, but about other sciences as well. Having a decent amount of knowledge about chemistry can help us solve many problems in life. Problems such as energy production, fast food, and bad smelling bathrooms have all been solved using chemistry. We use chemical reactions in batteries, solar panels, and new gasoline mixtures. Without these things, we cannot have the life we have right now. Everyone wants food faster, and chemistry helps us think up new ways to cook up food faster. (These days, most of the food in our fridge is chemically produced.) Everyone likes the smell of food, but no one likes it once it has digested (with chemicals) and is ready to be released. So with the help of chemistry, we thought up disinfectants and febreeze. Without chemistry, we would never have thought up any of these things. Chemistry changes our thought process in a positive way by making us think more logically. Chemistry is not like other sciences. In chemistry, you learn the mathematical definition of the elements. Ex: Water has polar bonds. (This is the standard explanation.) A chemist would say: water has polar bonds because of the slight negative charge given off by the oxygen and the slight positive charge given off by the hydrogens. You could go further in depth by saying oxygen has 6 electrons and the hydrogens have 2. The oxygen wants the electrons more, so it hogs the electrons. Thus we get a positive and negative charge.

A person who has learned chemistry would be able to explore more combinations with everyday things than someone who has not. Chemistry increases our imagination by giving us an infinite number of combinations of elements. An increase in imagination also means an increase in thought process, so chemistry increases our thinking capacity. Everything has something to do with chemistry because everything is built up out of atoms. To come up with something new, we use our imagination. So if our imagination is increased, our thought process will increase with it. In fact, if I use my imagination, I can say that chemistry has made me think by making me write this essay. Just being in a chemistry class for 1 day has made my mind spin trying to come up with answers to a question about chemistry. I feel like my mind is going to blow up any second now. And all of this is happening because of chemistry. Chemistry teaches us how to think by making us ask questions, giving us problems to solve, making us go in depth with our thoughts, and by helping us come up with new ideas by broadening our imaginations. Chemistry makes us ask questions because the facts in chemistry are so weird that our brain cant accept them until we try to learn them. It is like a whole new language. Chemistry gives us problems and solutions; we just have to think hard in order to find them. Chemistry helps us go in depth with our thought process by shaping our minds to the dictionary definition of everything. Chemistry broadens our imaginations by forcing us to accept that its facts are correct. The fact that there are over a million different combinations of elements also gives us a perspective of the vastness of things there are in this world. So learning chemistry is a smart move if you want to invent something new, create new ideas, or just become wiser. My thoughts about this essay prompt: Do this more often!!!!! I dont know if you actually take the time to read these essays, but this exercise is an extremely good way to provoke thoughts. It definitely made me think about an answer for an extremely long time. At first, I was extremely confused and angry about this homework assignment. I could not find an answer for such a topic. I was stressing out over this because it was due tomorrow. But then it hit me: since the question is so ridiculously broad, maybe the answers are really simple and easy to come up with. Thats how I came up with my ideas. Now that I know how much chemistry can help a person out, I am even more excited about this year. I am already a big science fan, but now that I know that it has so many practical uses, I am sure that I want to be some sort of scientist when I grow up. I hope this was what you were going for, because it worked.
