ENERGY CRISIS OF PAKISTAN SYNOPSIS

INTRODUCTION TO STUDY : This paper analyses the problem of shortfall in the supply of electrical energy that is presently being faced by Pakistan. The root causes of the shortfall in supply are mentioned. A forecast for next 10-12 years has been made using empirical data and preliminary calculations. A brief review is given about the potential of Pakistan to produce electricity and energy sources it has. Importance of utilizing coal resources of Pakistan also discussed in it. Also potential of water resource for construction of hydro-electric power station is described with mentioning the importance of run of river power station. Short and long term solutions to overcome this crisis are also given. Importance of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power is discussed in this article. This article provides a brief review of energy crisis in Pakistan and the main area to be focused to minimize shortfall of electricity in Pakistan. THE PROBLEM STATEMENT: Pakistan is presently facing a serious energy crisis. Despite strong economic growth during the past decade and consequent rising demand for energy, no worthwhile steps have been taken to install new capacity for generation of the required energy sources. Now, the demand exceeds supply and hence loadshedding is a common phenomenon through frequent power shutdowns. Pakistan needs about 1400015000MW electricity per day, and the demand is likely to rise to approximately 20,000 MW per day by 2010. Presently, it can produce about 11, 500 MW per day and thus there is a shortfall of about 30004000MW per day. This shortage is badly affecting industry, commerce and daily life of people. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY : This research discus the significance of energy crisis faced by Pakistan and how it affects people, economy and industries. Main highlights are : Forms of energy available to utilize. Role of energy in economic development. Role of energy in socio economic development. Role in Industrial and Agriculture sector. Role in domestic use of citizens. Solutions to overcome the crisis.

OBJECTIVES OF THIS RESEARCH: To assess critically the causes of energy crisis. To draw attention towards Possible alternate solutions. To address Consequences of energy crisis . To provide facts and statics of crisis.

THE METHODOLOGY: The methodology which will be used for carrying out the report will be used as follows: TYPES OF DATA SOURCE: For present research work, primary as well as secondary data will be used. Research will be broadly classified into two sections. Various statistical tools will be used to suggest and analyze the primary and secondary data. TOOLS OF COLLECTING PRIMARY DATA: a. The information will be collected directly by discussing affected persons which includes open ended questions allowing for a spontaneous response. b. The study will be using simple random sampling. All the data will help in formulating as very comprehensive case study. All sample units will be personally contacted and interviewed. TOOLS OF COLLECTING SECONDARY DATA: Various statistical tools will also be used to analyze the secondary data . a. Observation: The study is mainly based on relevant articles from news papers and t.v programs. b. Web Search: The information related to the problem will be collected from internet c. Sampling: like records, reports, operational logs, complaints and various types of data. HYPOTHESIS: a. b. c. d. e. f. Increased population is may be a factor in the crisis. Poor planning and management of our political leaders may play a part in the crisis. Failure at utilizing resources. Failure of controlling line losses. Energy crisis may be related to political crisis and uncertainty present in Pakistan . Industrialization may play a part .
