Geography 2.19 Students recognize and understand the relationship between people and geography and apply their knowledge in real-life situations. Program of Studies: SS-P-G-S-1 Students will develop an understanding of patterns on the Earths surface using a variety of geographic tools (e.g., maps, globes, charts, graphs): a) locate and describe familiar places at school and the community b) create maps that identify the relative location of familiar places and objects (e.g., school, neighborhood)

c) identify major landforms (e.g., continents, mountain ranges) and major bodies of water (e.g., oceans, rivers)

Real-Life Connections: After doing this Webquest students will be able to connect things with real life by, telling time, understanding conflicts and problem solving and they will be able to understand weather and climate and apply it to everyday life.

Procedures (45 per day total) Day 1. (45 min.) Introduction to the book, Horton Hears a Who. Follow the links and use the websites that are listed on the slide titled Day 1 to categorize different animals to the jungle that they live in. Students will also color in the different locations of jungles around the world and then color the rest of the map however they choose. Also they will be able to describe an overall climate of a jungle/rainforest. Day 2. (45 min.) Students will follow the website link to learn facts about elephants and then be able to fill out different categories of facts of elephants on day 2 of their journal. Day 3. (45 min.) Students will continue reading the next 4 pages in the book and then follow a web link to learn how to understand the millionth place value. The students will answer the questions for day 3 in their journal and be able to label the time on the clock in their journal and be will label Day 4. (45 min.) Students will read the last 12 pages of the story and watch a video of the movie trailer. Then in their journal on day 4, they will describe what major events the main character of the story went through and then draw a picture of Horton in their journal giving a story line to follow next to it. Day 5. (45 min.) Students will give a detailed summary discussing the conflict and resolution over the entire story showing that they comprehended it well, and then they will also give their thoughts over the story.
