St. Francis heard the Lord speak to him, saying: Go and rebuild my Church.

FAITH COMMUNITY WELCOMES YOU

IN TODAYS GOSPEL...
Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained."
John 20:21-23

OLD MISSION RETROFIT UPDATE

You might have noticed the signs to Save a National Historic Monument in front of our Old Mission. As many of you know, the Old Mission San Luis Rey must undergo a California-mandated seismic retrofit of the historic church to adhere to state standards in order to remain open. The Old Missions leadership launched a $3.1 million Capital Campaign to fund the retrofit and needs your help in raising the final 10% or $310,000 to reach our goal. We plan to begin construction on the retrofit at the beginning of June in order to complete the retrofit by the beginning of Advent at the end of this year. The Old Mission is a significant national landmark, the largest of the California Missions and often referred to as the King of Missions due to its size, productivity and sphere of influence during the early 1800s. For us who belong to the faith community, it is our church, the church where our Parish began. It is the Mother Church of the parish. Since the Old Mission Church was re-opened to the general public for free in November 2010, many more have come to appreciate the beauty and peacefulness of this 200 year old building as they light a candle for a special intention, sit in quiet meditation before the historic beautiful painting of Our Lady of Guadalupe or in the presence of Jesus on the cross, or kneel before our Blessed Mother in the Madonna Chapel. Many attend the Saturday and Sunday evening Spanish Masses or 7:00am Sunday morning Mass. Please join us to ensure we continue to carry on the Franciscan tradition of ministering to all people, the Gospel Message of hospitality and service on these inspirational and sacred grounds. Our heartfelt thanks go out to all who have already contributed to the success of the Campaign, and we could not have advanced so far without your help! Thank you! If you have not yet had the opportunity to contribute, we sure could use your help to raise the last 10% to meet our goal. Tax-deductible single donations or contributions pledged over a three- to fiveyear period can be made toward completing our campaign. All donors will be publicly acknowledged and donations of $10,000 and up will be acknowledged on a donor wall at the Old Mission. For more information on the Old Mission, the retrofit, and how you can contribute, please see Fr. David, visit www.sanluisrey.org or contact Mike Pollack or Linda Causee at 760-757-3651, ext 161. God Bless!

THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING IN WELCOME SUNDAY AND FOR SHARING YOUR TIME AND TALENTS!
We have been gifted by God! We celebrate our giftedness on Pentecost- the birthday of the Church! As the Holy Spirit blesses us with Gods abundance, we become much like the early disciples. Whether we experience great things or face challenges as Christian stewards, we walk by faith. What a great thing it is when Gods people share their gifts in love and in justice with others! I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your enthusiastic participation in Welcome Sunday. It was evident this past Sunday that many of you have accepted the invitation to become the Hands of Christ by making a conscious decision to share your time and talent with our parish family. Our parish is alive because Spirit-filled people like you are willing to share a portion of the talents, skills, and gifts that you have received from God. When individuals use their gifts in community, we accomplish more for the sake of Gods Kingdom. May you continue to grow as a disciple of Christ, blessed in the ways you practice your faith. We pray our most generous God continues to bless you as you move forward on your faith journey! ~~ Marta Werner, Volunteer Coordinator

CHRISTMAS IN JULY JEWELRY BOUTIQUE

Each year, the resale jewelry boutique attracts crowds of shoppers who support our parish school through their purchases during the OMMS Christmas in July fundraiser. Once again, we are collecting AND WE DO NEED YOUR HELP. If you have jewelry that you never wear, please consider donating it to help the school raise funds. We accept costume jewelry of any era, gold or silver jewelry, broken chains and watches, and old rosaries. Without your generosity ladies, there would be no boutique. We rely entirely on parishioners for donations. THE NEED HAS NEVER BEEN GREATER. If you have a large collection or valuable pieces to donate, I am happy to meet with you personally. You may also drop off jewelry in the OMMS office on week days. I can be reached at the number below or contacted through email at ChristmasinJuly1@yahoo.com. Thank you so very much for helping our parish school to thrive. Remember to visit The OMMS Jewelry Boutique in Sister Gladys' Booth during Christmas in July. (100% of proceeds go to the school.) For more information call Ann McKinnell at 760-494-3544.

A NIGHT AT THE MISSION

The Night at the Mission Committee would like to thank everyone who attended the first Night at the Mission Wine Tasting Event to benefit our Parish school, Old Mission Montessori School. We are so grateful to Father David Gaa, Maureen Sullivan, and Allen Hartman for all they did to make Night at the Mission a reality. Special thanks goes to Sergio Mora, Sr., the staff of the Old Mission, the Mission San Luis Rey Parish staff, and the teachers and staff at Old Mission Montessori School for all of their assistance, as well. In addition, we thank the businesses in our community for their generous donations. They include: Albertson's, Fratelli's Italian Kitchen, Fresh & Easy, GoGo Japan, Grocery Outlet, Marieta's Mexican Food, Mission Asian Market, Mission Linen Supply, Penny's Place Boutique Bakery, Petite Madeline Bakery Ralph's, Sprouts, St. Tropez Bakery & Bistro, and Williamson Produce. We would also like to thank our table sponsors for their generosity: CCG Jewelry; Chip Dykes for Oceanside City Council (Llanos Family); Edward Jones; El Camino Country Club; Eternal Hills; Filipino American Association / Martinez Dental Care; Law Office of Rafael Acosta; Pine Cottage Homes; State Farm Insurance - Michele McGowan; and Wine Logic. The wines of Beach House Winery and the music of Lyndon Pugeda and Kyle Montiel were the perfect accompaniment to the incredible setting on the grounds of the historic of Mission San Luis Rey. Because of the efforts of our entire Parish and the surrounding community, the event raised $6,000 for OMMS. We look forward to the next one!

Preguntas Sobre El Misal Romano
