The Sharing etwork 2nd Annual 5K Run / Walk Sunday, June 10, 2012
The early morning hours of Sunday June 10th promises to be a busy one around our borough and for our parish. On that morning, over 200 teams will run or walk a 5K though out New Providence in support of organ and tissue donation. Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI affirmed that Organ donation is a unique testimony of charity in his opening remarks to an international congress organized by the Pontifical Academy for Life in Rome 2008. Like all charitable endeavors, the need always outpace supply. The Sharing Network (sharenj.org) is committed to equalizing the imbalance by organized events like the annual 5K. This event brings together all those affected by donation to unite under a common messagewhich is that more of us need to register and express our desire to be an organ and tissue donor. This year, a team has been organized to participate in memory of a parishioner and in honor of those he gave the gift of life to. Please take just a few moments to register your intent and encourage others to do the same. Visit www.sharenj.org for more information. Thank you and God Bless you.

From the Catechetical Office

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED BECOMING A CATECHIST? One of the most rewarding things you can do is share your faith with the youth of our parish as a catechist in our Religious Education Program. The requirements are simple: a love for God, love for our Catholic faith, and a willingness to spread the news of Jesus Christ. Catechists are needed for the following grades: Wednesdays Grades K, 3, and 6 Thursdays Grades K, 1, 4, 5, and 6 For details, call the Parish Catechetical Office at (908)464-7600 and enter 8 when you hear the recorded greeting. By sharing your faith, you grow in faith!

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION

Registration for fall sessions is now underway. All Catholic children attending public or private schools should attend religious education classes so that they may be well grounded in our faith and be prepared for the sacraments. Religious Education registration packets for September 2012/2013 have been mailed to families of current students. Additional packets and information will be available in the rectory, on the parish website (www.olpnp.com), and on the tables in the rear of the church for families with children new to the program. Religious Education sessions for children in grades K through 6 are held on Wednesdays or Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Sessions for grades 7 & 8 are on Wednesday evenings from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. You may either mail or drop off your completed forms to the Catechetical Office in the rectory. By registering before June 15, it enables us to plan class sizes and recruit the needed number of catechists. Registration for First Grade Dont delay registering your first grader! Our First Reconciliation and Eucharist preparation begins in grade one. Children generally receive First Reconciliation in the second grade and First Communion in the third grade after they have experienced full preparation during those three years. Call, email, or visit the Catechetical Office with any questions (at 908-464-7600 and enter 8 when you hear the recorded greeting or at catoff@olpnp.com). The Catechetical Office is located in the Rectory and is open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily. Other hours are available by appointment.

What Is A Priest To Do???????

If a priest preaches over 10 minutes, he is long winded; if his sermon is short, he is not prepared. If the parish funds are high, he is a business man; if he mentions money, he is money mad. If he visits his parishioners, he is nosy; if he doesnt, he is snobbish. If he has fairs and bazaars, he is bleeding the people; if he doesnt there is no life in the parish. If he takes time in the confessional to give guidance, he takes too long; if he doesnt he doesnt care. If he celebrates the liturgy quietly, he is a bore; if he puts feeling into it, he is an actor. If he starts Mass on time, his watch is fast; if he is late, he is holding up the people.
