LEGACY- A Tribute to the King of Pop features Michael Jackson impersonator Luis Castillo and the cast of LEGACY, who keep audiences on the edge of their seats, or on their feet, as they are taken through a journey of Michael Jacksons classic songs such as Beat It, Thriller, Smooth Criminal, Billie Jean, Black or White, Bad, and more! Season ticket packages are now available for the 2012 season and can be purchased online at www.tlhd.org. The box office opens one hour before showtime.

This past December they celebrated their 40th anniversary and had nine charter members and/or spouses in attendance. For the first few years, just the men attended the monthly meetings. Since help was needed in increasing amounts, the wives became more involved. erhaps one of the most eyecatching landmarks in Alexandria is Big Ole a 28foot tall Viking statue that stands at the north end of Broadway. Born in 1965, the Viking has become a much-respected resident in the lakes area. The idea for the statue began in January of 1964 when North Star Worlds Fair Corporation in Osseo began working on an addition to the Minnesota display for the New York Worlds Fair. The display was to feature the historical Kensington Runestone in an animated scene titled Minnesota, Birthplace of America. The new item to coincide with this display was the 28-foot, four-ton Viking statue. Big Ole was completed by Gorden Displays of Minneapolis in April of

lexandria will be the site of the state tournament for the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League (MSHSCTL) in June. The Alexandria Shooting Park will host the tournament June 9-10, when individual and team champions will be recognized. Students were trap shooting weekly in April and May at shooting ranges across
the state of Minnesota. MSHSCTLs program attracts students in grades 6-12 to participate in shooting sports while creating a virtual competition among high schools throughout Minnesota. Shooting practices and competition are conducted at a shooting range near the schools location. A true team scoring system is used in three shooting performance categories top score, top five scores and team average score. The numbers of athletes on a team are used to define the eight different conferences that teams compete within. Scores are submitted and posted on the leagues website and compared with other schools performances to determine the earned points for a team. For more information, visit www.mnclaytarget.com.

Celebrate our nations Independence Day
Put down that grilled hotdog and eat up these fun facts about the Fourth of July provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. HISTORY On this day in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress, setting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation. As always, this most American of holidays will be marked by parades, fireworks and backyard barbecues across the country. PATRIOTIC NAMES 35: The number of places that have eagle in their names. The most populous one is Eagle Pass, Texas (26,248). 11: Places that have independence in their names. The most populous one is Independence, Missouri (116,830). 9: Places that have freedom in their names. The most populous one is New Freedom, Pennsylvania (4,464). 5: Places that have America in their names. The most populous is American Fork, Utah (26,263). 1: Places with patriot in the name Patriot, Indiana (209). PRESIDENTIAL NAMES 138: Ranking of the frequency of the surname of our first president, George Washington, among all last names tabulated in the 2000 Census. Other early presidential names that appear on the list, along with their ranking, were Adams (39), Jefferson (594), Madison (1,209) and Monroe (567). JULY 4 COOKOUTS More than 1 in 4: The chance that the hot dogs and pork sausages consumed on the Fourth of July originated in Iowa. Chances are good that the beef hot dogs, steaks and burgers on your backyard grill came from the Lone Star State, which accounted for about one-sixth of the nations total production. PLEASE PASS THE POTATO Potato salad and potato chips are popular food items at Fourth of July barbecues. Approximately half of the nations spuds were produced in Idaho or Washington state in 2010.

f you enjoy your racing on a smaller scale, then the Runestone Raceway is for you. High flying go-kart action is located at the west end of the Douglas County Fairgrounds, when the Runestone Go Kart Association holds racing every Friday night at 7 p.m. Admission is free for spectators. Runestone Go-kart Racing, Inc. saw its racing roots begin at the Campbell Raceway oval in the back yard of Harlan Campbells home on McKay Avenue in Alexandria, and in 1978, was incorporated. The entire racing program was then moved to the site it occupies now. The original board members, according to DuWayne Nelson, one of the originators of the program, had to clear a corn field, picking each stalk by hand, to build the new track. The Runestone Raceway began as a
dirt track with no lights, racing on Sunday afternoons. It has since evolved into a clay oval, complete with lighting, an announcer and spectator stands. Its not unusual to find the local Girl Scout troops or the racers themselves singing the National Anthem. A non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Runestone Go-kart Racing, Inc. also offers up-close action for spectators with pit passes for just $6. The racing program at the fairgrounds provides 12 different categories for young racers - Rookie Flat, Rookie Animal, Sportsman Flat, Sportsman Animal, Junior I Caged Animal, Junior I Cageless Animal, Junior I Cageless Flat, Junior II Caged Animal, Junior II Cageless Animal, Junior II Cageless Flat, Stock Light/Medium/Heavy and Animal Light/Medium/Heavy. Check out future Viking Speedway racers as they begin their careers at the Runestone Raceway every Friday night at 7 p.m.

he Central Lakes Trail is a paved, biking and walking trail that spans Douglas County from Osakis through Evansville and on to Fergus Falls in Otter Tail County. The 55-mile-long trail, located on the old Burlington Northern rail line grade, connects the cities of Osakis, Nelson, Alexandria, Garfield, Brandon, Evansville and Melby in Douglas County. The trail head and parking area in Alexandria is located at the north end of Broadway in Big Ole Central Park. Other trail heads are available in the cities of Osakis, Garfield, Brandon

The Central Lakes Trail (www.centrallakestrail.com) is used as a snowmobile trail in the winter, however studs are not allowed.
