Performance Features
Your Dell E6400 notebook includes a range of useful features and specifications, including: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9400 (2.5GHz) 4GB, DDR2-800 SDRAM memory (New) Intel(R) Integrated Graphics Intel(R) 82567LM Gigabit Network Card Dell WLAN 1510 802.11a/b/g/n (New) Secure Digital (SD) card reader 1 PCMCIA Type I/II slot 3 USB Ports on the notebook 1 External Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (eSATA)/USB Port (New) 1 DisplayPort (New) 1 VGA port 1 Firewire (1394) 160GB Serial ATA hard disk, 7200RPM Internal Backlit Keyboard (New) To power your wireless antenna on and off, use the physical switch above the microphone jack on the right side of the notebook.

Backlit Keyboard
The E6400 also has a backlight keyboard which can be used in low light environments. To cycle through three modes of the backlit keyboard use the FN+ Right Arrow key.

Battery Life
Your E6400 is equipped with a six-cell lithiumion battery. The maximum battery life at the best power settings is up to 4 hours with the 6 cell battery, and 7 hours with the 9 cell battery. Battery-Saving Tips: Power off the wireless antenna when not in use. Remove PCMCIA cards when not in use.

This mode will turn on the backlit keyboard in low lighted conditions. Also, it will turn off after one minute of inactivity. This mode will turn on the backlit keyboard whenever a key is depressed. Also, it will turn off after one minute of inactivity. This mode will disable the backlit keyboard.

Ambient Light Sensor Touchpad/Point Stick Mouse


To adjust the Touchpad/Point Stick, click on the in the system tray. You Dell Touchpad icon can adjust settings like tapping, scrolling, button settings, sensitivity, and palm check. Your E6400 is equipped with an Ambient Light Sensor to automatically adjust the LCD brightness. Using this option will greatly increase your E6400's battery life. Ambient Light Sensor: 1. To enable the Ambient Light Sensor use the FN + Left Arrow keys to toggle the Ambient Light Sensor on or off.

Wireless Antenna
The E6400 supports 802.11abgn wireless technologies. Airlines require the wireless antenna to be turned off during flight. Supports 802.11n standard for longer range and faster connections speed. This new standard is not available in all PwC offices but can be used if your home network supports it.

External Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (eSATA)/USB Combo Port


New to the E6400 is the eSATA/USB combo port. This port can be used to attach either an eSATA drive or USB device to the notebook. The benefit of eSATA drives is that they are external, portable, hot-swappable, and are equivalent to an internal drive as far as data transfer speeds. Display Modes
Display Modes is a feature of the E6400 that allows you to toggle between several different display configurations. 1. Use the FN + F8 to toggle between the available configurations. This feature only works when an external monitor or projector is attached to the notebook.

Screen Rotation
To rotate an external monitor for portrait viewing of documents, follow these steps using either the Keyboard Hot Keys or the Intel Tray Icon. Keyboard Hot Keys: 1. Ensure the mouse pointer is on the screen that is going to be rotated. 2. To rotate the screen 90 degrees clockwise, press Ctrl + Alt + Right Arrow, to rotate in the opposite direction, press Ctrl + Alt + Left Arrow. 3. To reset the rotation back to default landscape, press Ctrl + Alt + Up Arrow.

Other
Keyboard function - the "Break" key is now activated using "Ctrl+FN+F12". Keyboard function - to disable/enable battery charging use "FN+F2" This model will be deployed with ePC XP SP3. The Windows Vista sticker on the palm rest simply indicates this laptop is certified for Vista.

DisplayPort (DP)
The E6400 has a new video port called DisplayPort (DP). The DP standard is similar to DVI standards currently in use. It also does allow for higher definition content, and higher display resolutions. The benefit to having this additional video port is the ability to attach 2 external LCDs without the use of a docking station. To accomplish this with current LCD standards you will be required to obtain a DP to DVI adapter.

Removing Dell Control Point (DCP) Popup Messages


1. Select FN+F7. 2. Select Display and Devices.
