Analysis
As Charles Darwin said, Its not the strongest of the species who survive, but the one who most responsive to change. It is very important that we must thoroughly look into the periphery of the business, anticipate the possible threats , and know how we should respond to changes. Managers should know how to pre-empt possible situation to happen, just as how a captain thinks of the possible danger before he sails his ship in the ocean. Companies often face demographic shifts, new rivals, new technologies, new regulations and other environmental changes. Managers must focus with the goal, have a good vision to conceptualize and most likely innovative. Have the ability to interpret and analyze the data, and recognize the missing part of the picture. There are so many reasons and factors why businesses shuts down. Sometimes the company can be too much peripheral that end up to neurotic, too ambitious that would lead wasting resources by focusing in unimportant signals. A historian said : we have to open the book of past, in order for us to understand the present and the future. The conventional way of managing the business cant be considered as obsolete if the demographic never requires and situation is stable. The past may not be the most reliable predictor of the future but it can point out the blind spots in the company or the industry. In managing the business every little thing needs a keen attention, same as with the saying big fire start with the spark. We cant take for granted even if it is a small part, as every part is a part of a whole. The blind points of your industry can be the way your rival would use against your business. It is very important to motivate every individual in the company and make them understand the vision. Scanning the periphery is the best tool to start the business. Predicting all the possibilities and anticipating opportunities demands time, effort , expertise and efficiency. The Crispa garment factory in the Philippines suffered a lot when their government had an agreement with China on GATT (General Agreement on Trade and Tariff). China exported their product in quantity that made the whole market a dumping ground of china product at a very low price. When recession started, it totally paralyzed the garment industry. Crispa Garment Factory wasnt able to anticipate the new regulations and world economic problem. Quality wise they have the edge, but they could not cope up with low cost of labor in china and materials were also important that could not compete with china in terms of price in the market.
