Feature & Benefit Overview

Native TDM and Native Ethernet

Feature
Native TDM

Benefit
Available channel bandwidth carries user traffic not overhead thus conserving spectrum When T1/E1 ports are added, TDM throughput is traded bit-forbit for Ethernet throughput and vice versa, so rated throughput always equals user-available throughput Delivers low and consistent latency performance regardless of IP traffic behavior, including bursts

Native Ethernet Variable Allocation

Zero latency introduction ensures the highest performance IP transport over the radio link Protects value of investment by supporting both current and future traffic allocation splits between TDM and Ethernet

Flexibility and Ease of Use

Feature
Selectable occupied bandwidth and modulation Management flexibility Common split-mount IDU 11, 18, 23 GHz

Benefit
Allows selection of desired channel bandwidth or modulation entirely via software, providing flexibility vs. hardware-based configuration options Provides in-band and out-of-band flexibility with multiple management options, including HTTP, CLI/Telnet, Serial Console, and SNMP v1,2c, and v3 Enables the same IDU SKU to be used for all 11, 18 and 23 GHz licensed bands with plug-and play ODU autoconfiguration, reducing CAPEX associated with sparing Reduces time associated with frequency transition through ODU-only swap Reduces training burden: all IDUs are the same, regardless of frequency

Upgrade path to GigE

Support
Feature
Embedded manual

Benefit
Allows instant access to documentation within the radio. Installation and Management manual is always up-to-date with the latest release of software

Exalt Customer Care

Provides two-year warranty with registration (one-year otherwise) Offers extended warranty up to 5 years and advanced replacement with 24/7 phone support up to 5 years Offers field installation supervision and private/customized training

High Security
Feature SNMPv3 Benefit
Ensures the protection of potentially sensitive network monitoring and management traffic through secure user authentication and message encryption Addresses known security holes with v1 and v2c

AES 128/256-bit Encryption (optional)

Secure mobile voice and data traffic with the most secure standards-based encryption available with no added latency or throughput degradation Hardware-based approach ensures that the process of encryption does not affect capacity (software-based encryption can reduce throughput by as much as 50%)

Summary
> Exalt microwave radios support the following management methods: > HTTP (Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox)
- CLI/Telnet (Console access via Ethernet or RS232 Serial port) - SNMPv1, v2c, v3
AUX Ethernet port

> Two 10/100BaseT allow two modes of operation:

- In-band: Management traffic is transported over the microwave link - Out-of-band: Management traffic is not transported over the microwave link. Radios are managed via an external LAN connection using the AUX Ethernet port.

MAIN Ethernet port

page 43

Management via HTTP GUI

> Exalt radios include a web server to allow browser access to management functions. Currently, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox are supported. Only the system IP address is needed to access the login window.

> Two user levels are provided

Administrator, allows read/write of system parameters and functions User, allows read-only access to system parameters and functions

page 44

Proprietary and Confidential

Management via CLI/Telnet

> Management via the Command Line Interface (CLI) can be done in the following ways:
- Asynchronous RS232 port - MAIN Ethernet port for in-band management and using the Telnet protocol - AUX Ethernet port for out-of-band management using the Telnet protocol

> Two user levels:

- Administrator, allows read/write of system parameters and functions - User, allows read-only access to system parameters and functions

page 45

Proprietary and Confidential

Management via SNMP

> Exalt microwave radios can be managed using any SNMP-based NMS > Three versions of the SNMP protocol are supported:
- SNMPv1 - SNMPv2c - SNMPv3:
- Latest and most secure - Provides encryption functionality and maintains the integrity of the transmitted packets - Provides access control and originator verification through the use of password authentication SNMP configuration page

SNMP TRAP configuration page

> Two functions are provided: SET and GET

- Used to read or configure objects predefined in the system MIB (Management Information Base)

> SNMP TRAP functions are available

- Used to automatically communicate predefined events and alarms to the higher level NMS/EMS

In-band and Out-of-band Management

Out-of-band management separates management traffic from data traffic. Further segmentation can be done with VLANs Network Operation Center manages entire network remotely

Concatenated links can all be managed with in-band management
