ABOUT THE PROJECT TOPIC

Facebook is a social site which started working on February 4, 2004 by its young

producer Mark Zuckerberg. He designed Facebook in his room at US Harvard University and started it as a social website for Harvard students. But very soon his site was taken into consideration outside the university and it became so popular that by the end of the second week of its operation, over half of Harvard students registered in Facebook and used it as a way of contacting with each other; and in a short period, millions of people became Facebook members and founded a broad and influential network. Although this social network paves the way for finding new friends or communicating with old friends, it is a site for exchanging views and ideas among the youths. The capability that a youth can communicate with other youths in different countries has turned the social networks including Facebook into a site for introducing and discussing new ideas. Actually with the spread of social networks, relations have become closer and wider than the past to the extent that the social sites have turned into an inseparable part of our life and its positive and negative impacts affect our life. Some experts believe that with the help of these sites, relations have entered a new phase and people can become aware of each other better and more quickly. But on the

other hand, some other experts are of the opinion that the social sites, especially Facebook have created many problems. .

1.2 Effects of Facebook on Teenagers

Most of the teenagers dont realize the negative impact of Facebook on their life. And, the main reason is because they are already addicted to it. And, this addiction can lead to several negative developments. You will find 7 negative effects of this social networking site that should encourage you to start avoiding it. The first negative effect of Facebook is that a teenage user starts losing interest in his or her surroundings. You would be addicted to

Facebook and the only thing you would be concerned about will be your own world, which is inside Facebook. The second negative effect is that your realworld social interaction will start diminishing. There is no doubt that you are going to have hundreds of friends on Facebook, but with how many of them would you be interacting out in the real world. As a human being, you are a social creature and you naturally require real-world social interaction. When you are going to spend maximum of your time on the Internet, you are going to decrease your communication and social skills. Another negative impact will be on your health. There is a very high chance that excessive use of Facebook leads to the users becoming obese. You would be sitting most of the time in front of the computer, eating snacks and without any physical activities. And, over a period of time you are going to accumulate all the extra pounds. Facebook is also going to minimize your study time. Rather than spending your time on Facebook, you would better start browsing some educational sites that relate to your school course. For Facebook users, family doesnt come first, but Facebook does. For them their online

friends are more important than their family members. The sixth negative effect of Facebook is that your personal data becomes public on this social site, threatening your privacy. This is not reasonable, unless you want to be contacted by hundreds of people that dont know you. The seventh negative effect of Facebook is that it increases the chances of online conflict. Facebook is populated with immature individuals who create bizarre statuses, upload awkward images and carry out absurd actions. And, this can lead to conflicts between people.

.Objectives

of the study

To know importance of Facebook in youths life. To know the addiction level of youth.

To study the impact of Facebook on the emotional level of an individual.
