Title: Computerized Library Management System with Barcode Technology Integration for Lipa City
Colleges-Learning Resource Center II. Description

III. Statement Problem:

The Lipa City Colleges-Learning Resource Center (LCC-LRC) is especially open for their students and for others who are in need of information resources. The institution has a current library system designed using Visual Basic 6.0.In the current system, the circulation staff should enter the borrower number and accession number manually into a computer that slows down the book issuing process and may create data entry errors. Furthermore, the current system couldnt ascertain the status of a particular reference material whether it is on loan or on shelf. The present system couldnt generate the necessary reports such as book loan statistics and penalties. To improve the quality of service the library staff must find a way to serve its patrons with utmost speed and efficiency. The aid of barcode technology will provide solutions to the problem. The proposed system will ease the circulation process and lessen the time and effort of the borrowers in searching references and its availability. IV. Objectives The main objective of the study is to develop a Library System with Barcode Technology that will help more for the improvement of the services of Lipa City Colleges Library. In particular it aims to:
1.

To improve the present library management system of Lipa City Colleges. a. faster and effective flow of borrowing and returning of reference materials b. generate necessary reports such as book loan statistics and penalties c. accurate book information entry and retrieval d. more convenient cataloguing, inventory and monitoring of books.

2.

To develop an effective library system that utilizes the use of barcode technology. a. printing of barcodes b. scanning identity cards c. scanning accession number

V. Significance: Barcode technology plays an important role automating the functions of the library, especially the circulation. Its application increases the speed and accuracy of library operations such as book issue and return as it easy to read and get data into a computer using barcode scanner. It will improve the efficiency of library staff by eliminating human errors as in case of manual data entry. The proposed system will provide a more convenient cataloguing, inventory and monitoring of books. It will generate the necessary reports such as book loan statistics and penalties that are not present in the current library system. It will be very convenient for the borrowers as it will save time and effort to know location and status of a particular book.
