THEE WORD FOR THE WEEK

Esau ~ Genesis 25:19-42 June 4-8, 2012

Last week we studied a man (Noah) that scripture says, Found favor (grace) in the eyes of the Lord. (Gen. 6:8). This week we are studying a man (Esau) that the scripture says, let there be no immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal.(Heb. 12:16) MONDAY: Genesis 25:19-26 Who were the parents of Esau? Who was Esaus twin brother? Why did Rebekah seek Gods advice during her pregnancy? What was the significance of Gods answer? God has a plan for every person. Do you know what Gods plan is for your life? Pray and ask God to give you the strength and courage to follow His plan for your life. TUESDAY: Genesis 25:27-34 Esau was a man with many skills, he was a leader, and a man full of potential, but he made wrong choices and decisions. How did Esau get the name Edom? What is a birthright? Why would Esau sell his birthright for a bowl of stew? Do you think Esau realized what he was doing or did he even care? We suffer the consequences of our choices. When we make bad choices then our consequences can become very severe. Do you seek Gods guidance when making choices? Do you consider all the consequences of the choices you are making? WEDNESDAY: Genesis 27:30-42 Gods plan for us is long term, but during the course of time we do not understand the value of the plan, or we choose the immediate pleasures available to us, or we allow our appetites to be driven by our flesh and our choices lead to a life that even God despises. Because of the choices Esau had made, how was his blessing taken from him? Even though Isaac was deceived by Jacob and Rebekah, why do you think Isaac refused to change the blessing? What was Esaus response and threat when he didnt receive the blessing? Today, is your life like Esaus; irresponsible, irreverent, irreligious, careless and loose, or is your life balanced, centered in the will of God, following Gods plan and making a difference where you are? Spend some time alone with God today. THURSDAY: Hebrews 12:14-17 Esau became associated with the Edomites, a people that continually antagonized and fought against Gods chosen people, Israel. Therefore God chose to destroy them. Read the following accounts written by the prophets about the Edomites. Jeremiah 49:7-22, Ezekiel 25:14-14, Amos 1:11-12, Malachi 1:1-5, Hebrews 12:17 FRIDAY: READ JEREMIAH 29:11-14 Spend time today seeking God in all His Glory, making Him the Lord and Savior of your life. Ask Him to show you His plan for your life, and commit to follow Him.
