Content and Introduction

This is my first report for CKV this year. Our overall assignment for this one course year is to visit things like places, events, concerts and exhibitions and write reports/reviews about it. Of course it has to do with a lot of other things. The main point is to do something cultural. So reading a book or watching a films is also allowed. I'm doing Havo so I have to write 6 reports I think. In this report I'm going to talk about a fashion show exhibition I went to a while ago with my classmate Laurie. The original idea was to go to the fashion show itself. But all the tickets were sold out before we knew. Luckily there was an exhibition of the whole collection the day after. I divided my report in the following steps as you can see below. 1. 2. 3. Content and Introduction Information Form, Content & Own opinion ... ... ... P. 2 P. 3 P. 4

For this report I used the Kunstwijzer '' Toneel'', ''Museum'' and Design''. I kind of mixed the three since there was nothing very similar to what we did. For this report I used the site http://www.arminius.nu/ , http://www.kunsthal.nl/22-294Uitverkoren.html, the little books which were given with the goodie bags and the site of the designer http://www.petergeorgedangelinotap.com/. I made (most of) the photo's myself.

Information

First some information about the exhibition, designer and place. The name of the show is PGXXX | Thaumazoo designed by Peter George d'Andelino Tap from The Hague (PGXXX is his label). I went to see the exhibition with Laurie on the 10th of September at an old church called ''Arminius'' nearby the metro station ''Eendrachtsplein''. The show was the night before on the 9th from 20.30 at the same place. The free exhibition was open for public from 10.00 till 17.00. The exhibition of the collection was staled out all around the building which supposed to be a church a long time ago. There's wasn't an exact route. You just began at the entrance ,where two people on a table said welcome and offered a goodie bag with not that interesting stuff, and then wandered your way through every hall and room you came across. The press about the theatrical designs of Peter George from http://www.kunsthal.nl/22294-Uitverkoren.html. I mainly found older press releases about his work since he isn't that active nowadays. There were also more older people at the exhibition. Totally against my expectations

Form, Content & Own opinion

The collection was split up and shown in different rooms all over the building. The rooms were very different. Some were enormous with huge windows and very bright light with three designs. Other were as small as a baby room with not even one window with barely one design. The organization should have been different. It would be better to give us a route or map at the entrance. Every rooms was guarded by someone. From what I picked up, it were students from WDKA. Students who volunteered to help and doing something fashion related on THE art school of Rotterdam, Willem de Kooning Acedemie. Also a thing that struck my attention was the several tours given at the same moment in the church. As Laurie and I strolled through the church halls and rooms, we passed by some groups from abroad who were here for some reason as well as a travel agency group specialized in trips with elderly people. All I could think was like; '' What in gods name are they doing here?'' I thought that the place itself with the authentic atmosphere didn't really set the mood for what you're looking for. It was a haute couture (high fashion) exhibition. It's ever more modern that modern and you chose a place like this? I thought it could have been chosen better. Anyway the space didn't have such an positive effect on the collection. The way it was presented could have been better too. It was just set up on a black pole or something with the object nearby. The collection had a rather better idea though. What Tap did here was making a haute collection based on artificial objects like paintings, sculptures and such from other semi-famous designers. He worked together with the other artists and created a of 16 pieces consisting assortment. He used outstanding features and patterns of the art objects in his designs to make it resemble or make a pair. The designs are of course made to wear but since it's high fashion it might be better to just use it as an art object to decorate your home with. There are really some pieces you don't want to be found dead in. But that's my opinion. I think these designs didn't really have any function at all. There was no price/place stated where and how you could buy it. Only the sculptures and paintings used as inspiration had prices and other extra information. So the real purpose for these designs where probably just for amusement.

The designs were made out of ordinary fabric, feather, paper, beads and sponge. Maybe some other material too. What I did found awesome was that it actually looked like he put really work and time in it. What most people think of haute couture is that it's just some random stuff sticked and glued together. Not all his designs looked valuable but some really struck my attention. So that's already something you'd come for to see. So as I look back at the collection I had some favorites as well as designs I didn't like. For example the twin dresses, which were my favorites. Two petite dresses made of nothing more than cotton and treads. Based on two similar paintings. A black and white one. The paintings were placed on the wall behind the white dress. The black dress was hung up on the wall next to the white dress. The balance and differences with his other designs were very big. It gave me a kind of sight that Peter is also capable of making ''prt-a-porter'' fashion. Now if you take a look at the picture you might think the dress is laid on a square table but that the form of the dress. Instead of a round shape Peter chose to make it a square. Not that practical but very eccentric. There were also some designs I wasn't attracted to. It were most likely the way the forms were presented but also the colors were off-book. I have a very precise but changing taste. It often changes and I'm pretty much of a perfectionist so I have a strong opinion what regards art, music and fashion. Nevertheless, I think it was thanks to all the minus points worth a see. Everything is worth a see right. Opens and broadens you interesses, taste and knowledge. I had an okay time there. Now I have a clear few on Peter George d'Angelino Tap now. And I got to daydream inside a few hundred years old church while watching some pretty, eccentric, outstanding or hideous designs by this unknown designer to eventually make a report about it.
