THE MYSTERY OF THE BLESSED TRINITY Today we celebrate the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. The Church sets aside this Sunday to focus our attention on the mystery of the Blessed Trinity, God who is one, but three personsFather, Son, and Holy Spirit. The first reading from Deuteronomy emphasizes both Gods awesome greatness and amazing nearness. It might seem beyond belief, but the God of all creation speaks to us, protects us, and guides us. The second reading from Saint Pauls Letter to the Romans describes how we are to relate to the three persons who are one God. We are led by the Spirit to meet God the Father as adopted children. Our adoption is such that we are even heirs with our brother, Christ, the second person of the Trinity, in whose sufferings we must also share. In Matthews Gospel, Jesus speaks with his authority as God and sends us to teach and baptize in the name of the Trinity.

MANY ARE OLD, SICK & NEEDY, MANY ARE STILL IN MINISTRY. They were the driving force behind the amazing spread of Chicago Catholicism in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. They were the face of energetic Chicago Catholicism, like no other city in America. They created a school system and Catholic Charities network in Cook and Lake Counties never before equalled in this country. WHERE THE MONEY GOES. Yuor donation will help to cover the expenses for over 200 retired priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
ARCHDIECESE OF CHICAGO
June, 2012
Dear Friends in Christ, On the weekend of June 910, 2012, we will take up a special collection for the Retired Priests of the Archdiocese. When priests retire from pastoral responsibilities, they remain ordained priests, configured through the Sacrament of Holy Orders to Christ, the head of his Body, the Church. Priests are not employees; they are fathers in Christ and brothers to all. The retired priests celebrate Mass and sacraments in hundreds of parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago. Their dedicated service enables many parishes to avoid reducing the number of Masses celebrated each weekend. Some retired priests are called upon to be temporary administrators of parishes. Our senior priests do this willingly as a continuation of the many years that they have faithfully served our Church. Please join me in offering our retired priests words of appreciation and gratitude for their many years of priestly ministry. The Priests Retirement and Mutual Aid Association (PRMAA) cares for our retired priests. Again this year, we have seen the cost of health care, prescription drugs, and nursing-home care increase. In addition, the priests pension fund remains seriously impacted by the economic downturn. This special collection will help us continue to support our retired priests. You may be aware that the December collection for retired men and women Religious is designated to provide only for those in Religious Orders. Archdiocesan priests do not receive any funds from this collection. I would like to personally thank all of our retired priests for their lives and their exemplary ministry. We are blessed to have more than one hundred retired priests ministering in our parishes. May their spirit of sharing continue to enliven our Church! I am thankful to all of you for your most gracious generosity in this collection last year. I ask you to repeat your kindness this year. Your donations, your prayers and your good wishes are a great affirmation of our retired priests. Please pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood. You and those you love are in my prayers; please keep me in yours. Sincerely yours in Christ, Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I. Archbishop of Chicago
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Even though the Easter season has drawn to a close, todays feast still basks in the glow of Easters twilight. To believe that we are made in the image and likeness of Goda God whose inner life is described in terms of communityis to recognize that we are in relationship with one another. In the language of the liturgy, we do not each stand alone before God, but constantly affirm this truth in the very words of our prayers. We believe, we offer, we ask you, we say, or have mercy on us, hear us, listen to our prayer, and in preparation for Communion, we pray the perfect prayer to Our Father.
To be baptized is to enter into the life of a community of faith. Nowhere is this sense of community more focused than at Sunday Mass, when we respond to the love of the Father by being together in Christ, embraced by the Spirit, for the sake of the world. Today has been called an idea feast, and impossible to grasp fully. Yet, as the readings today explore, the Trinity is not a concept traced like a triangle on a blackboard. It is the air we breathe, the sign we trace on our bodies as a pledge and promise of Gods love.

I want to thank all the parishioners who were praying for me while I was at my internship at St. Ferdinand. Now I am back at St. Albert the Great, at my home parish where I will stay until my ordination. My experience at St. Ferdinand was very powerful and by this my vocation to the priesthood is much stronger. During these three months I learned and experienced a lot about priesthood and parish ministry. In fall I will start my 3rd year of Theology which will bring me come closer to the ordination. Thank you again for your prayers and please continue to pray for me as well as for my classmates. God Bless! Seminarian Marek Smolka
