Telecommunication

Telecommunication is the transmission of information over significant distances to communicate with each other. In earlier times, telecommunications involved the use of visual signals, such as, smoke signals, telegraphs, signal flags, and optical heliographs, or audio messages via coded drumbeats. Telecommunications also includes the use of electrical devices such as telegraphs, telephones the use of radio and microwave communications as well as fiber optics and their associated electronics plus the use of the orbiting satellites and the Internet. Some major examples of todays telecommunications are cell phones, computers, and e-mail. Before the internet was available communications have been broadcasted Telecommunication Services play a key role in the growth of economy facilitating efficiency and growth across the wide range of users industry in any country. The level of Telecommunication development is a determining factor for economy, social and cultural development of a country.

Pakistan Telecom Industry


Pakistan is the fastest growing mobile telecom market in Asia. Currently the telecom sector is undergoing intense competition among the six mobile operator one major fixed line operator and few small fixed-line operators. In the best interest of their long sustainability, the mobile operators are forming strategies driven towards being at lowest cost, extensive network coverage and connectivity, innovative products and segmentation.

Pakistan post and telegraph


At the time of independence and telecommunication services were performed by a single department known as Pakistan post and telegraph (P&T)

The first step towards reform in telecommunication sector was made in 1962.when the ayyub khan government decided to split up the (PT&T) department into two separate departments Pakistan post and Pakistan telephone & telegraph (PT&T)

Pakistan telecommunication corporation (ptc)

On December 5th, 1990 the PT&T department was transformed into Pakistan telecommunication corporation (PTC) PTCL Pakistan telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) is a company established to undertake the telecommunication business formally carried on by Pakistan in Jan 1996.Under the PTCL reorganization act, 1996 the telecommunication sectors were split up into four bodies. Pakistan Telecommunication Company limited (PTCL) Pakistan telecommunication authority (PTA) National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) Frequency allocation board (FAB)

PTA
Pakistan telecommunication authority is a regulatory body responsible for monitoring the telecommunication business in Pakistan. It makes rules and regulation for private telecom companies such as mobile phone companies, internet service providers and pay card phone companies. It also issues licenses to the new companies in entering to this business.

Mobilink GSM started its operations in 1994. The first cellular service provider to operate on
a 100% digital GSM technology in Pakistan offer both postpaid (Indigo) and prepaid (JAZZ). It is on the top of the List of mobile companies in Pakistan. It has been in Pakistan since 1994, now it has 32 million subscribers by 2012 it has the largest market share. Its shares are listed on the Egyptian and London stock markets (OTLD).

Ufone GSM is a cellular telephony which starts its service in January 28, 2001 under the
brand name of Ufone from Islamabad, and launched by the PTCL. Ufone became a part of the Emirates Telecommunication Corporation Group (Etisalat) in 2006. This customer focus and

best offering has allowed Ufone to build a subscriber base of over 20 million in less than a decade. Ufone has network coverage in 10,000 locations and across all major highways of Pakistan.

Telenor acquired the license for providing GSM services in Pakistan in April 2004, and had launched its services commercially in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Karachi. Norway Telenor, a recent entrant with about a billion US dollar investment in Pakistan has been doing well Currently having 25 million subscribers, Telenor stock is listed in the Oslo stock market (TEL). Mainly have two Packages. Talkshawk and djuice.

Warid, owned by the Abu Dhabi group of the United Arab Emirates and sister of Wateen group started its operation in may 25, 2005. In July 2007it sold 30% share to SingTel. Warid started it services in Pakistan May 2005. Since than Warid Telecom successfully launched the services covering Pakistan. Total subscriber by 2011 are 17.5 Million
