About the Institute


Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Punjab (MGSIPAP), Chandigarh, was set up in 1978 by the Government of Punjab as a registered society. The Institute is devoted to research, evaluation, consultancy and training in public administration and allied areas such as management, planning, development, economics, etc for improving governance in the State. Objectives of the Institute 1. Undertake, promote and coordinate research and training in various spheres of governance 2. Analyse specific problems encountered in the planning and implementation of projects, policies and programs of the government and suggest suitable remedial measures 3. Prepare print and publish papers, periodicals and books in furtherance of the objectives of the Society 4. Establish and maintain libraries and information services 5. Collaborate with other institutions, organizations, associations and societies in India and abroad pursuing similar objectives 6. Offer fellowships, scholarships, prizes and stipends in furtherance of the institution 7. Establish wings for Education, training, research including action research, consultancy and publications The Institute has three Regional Centres at Patiala, Jalandhar and Bathinda. The Institute brings a monthly publication, MGSIPAP Newsletter which contains information about the various activities of the institute. The Institute has twelve classrooms with all the teaching and training aids, four conference halls with a capacity to seat 25 - 75 participants. The hostel can accommodate about 50 participants and there are 12 VIP suites. The Computer Centre has four labs with 60 computers of which three labs are connected on LAN and in all the Institute has over 100 computer systems connected to LAN and facility to access the Internet has also been provided. The Library of the Institute is housed in a three-storey building and the collection of about 28000 books, CDs/DVDs and bound journals and subscribes to over 70 periodicals. The library also possesses electronic resources in management and governance. A large number of resource persons and external faculty provide support to the Institute. Another milestone has been that of getting experts, persons of eminence, legislators as well as public at large associated in the improvement of governance/public administration in the State. 1

About Civil Services Coaching Centre


The Civil Services Coaching Centre (CSCC) was set up during the year 2011 considering the demand for quality coaching at a reasonable cost for the aspiring students. Since, the Institute already had the mandate, infrastructure and faculty to provide the coaching for various competitive examinations including the All India Civil Services, a Civil Services Coaching Centre has been set up at its campus in Chandigarh.

Mission
To provide quality coaching to the aspiring students of the northern region to get into the premier services of the country.

Objectives
1. To provide quality coaching at a nominal fee and thus help the poor and needy but bright students of the region to get an opportunity to join Civil Services 2. To prepare more and more students from northern states to get selected into Civil Services in a larger number 3. To provide special coaching to students opting for Punjabi/Hindi medium 4. To provide a forum for useful interaction amongst the students, teachers and experts in Public Administration by arranging seminars and group discussions 5. To enhance the capacity and capabilities of the outstanding students who can act as trend-setters and torch-bearers for the future generation

1. Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) for Civil Services Preliminary Examination (5 months duration) 2. Civil Services Mains Examination (4 months duration) 3. Civil Services Preliminary-cum-Mains Examination for in-service candidates (6 months duration, classes on week-ends only) 4. Mock Interviews and Counseling open to all students

Coverage
Civil Services Preliminary Examination (CSAT) Paper-1: General Studies Current events of National and International importance History of India and Indian National Development Indian and world Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world Indian Polity and governance constitution, political system, panchayatiraj. Public policy, Rights issues, etc. Economic and social development - sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives, etc. General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change that do not require subject specialization General Science Paper II: Civil Services Aptitude Test Comprehension Interpersonal skills including communication skills Logical reasoning and analytical ability Decision making and problem solving General mental ability Basic numeracy (Numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc(Class X level) Interpretation (Charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc- Class X level) Data English language comprehension skills (class X level) Question relating to English Language Comprehension Skills (Class X level) Civil Services Main Examination General Studies Optional subjects* (any two of the following) History, Public Administration, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, Economics, Political science *Only those optional subjects will be offered where there are minimum ten students 3

Hostel Accommodation
