GAJI SPRING SEMESTER 2012

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SEMINAR PAPER

For your seminar papers, you are supposed to: Choose a school of criticism, literary era or a specific literary style/movement and write a minimum of 3 A4 pages paper, single spaced, 12 font, Times New Roman. ~SOME GUIDELINES~ MLA Research Paper Instructions Understanding how to write a research paper is a big step to come up with reliable research results. The document plays an important role to get your research results disseminated o other people. But sometimes, you will also need to follow certain formats and structures according to the preference of the adviser. For an MLA research paper, you simply need to follow some instructions and make your research document more appealing. So what is an MLA format paper? Here is a list of properties. You should include your name, professors name, subject and date of submission at the upper left corner of the first page. The title of the research paper should be just below the date but it should be centered. The opening sentence of the introduction should be catchy. In text citations should be enclosed in quotation marks After the closing quotation mark, put the authors name together with the page number. Enclose the two details in parenthesis. If you are going to use long quotations or what is called block quotation, indent it from the rest of the sentence lines and do not put quotation marks. Put a title on your reference page named as Works Cited Each entry of the bibliography page should have indented second lines. Arrange the entries in alphabetical order. When it comes to pagination, simply write your last name together with the corresponding page number.

Here are some pieces of advice how to organize the work with sources:1

Take notes conscientiously in order not to be confused with the ever-increasing portions of analyzed information as you read more and more with the course of your research. Work methodically, systematically and regularly in order not to be buried under the accumulated mountain of newly-acquired sources. Mind your deadlines.

Read selectively in order not to waste your precious and limited research time. While getting acquainted with a new source, pay prime attention to the preface; scan the table of contents and the index; then read the promising sections. Be careful with the copyright and do not copy everything. You will need only the limited range of citations pertinent to your paper. Sometimes it is better to paraphrase the citation than to use it verbatim. It will launch your own creative thinking mechanism. Weave every piece of information coherently and cohesively into the overall research picture. Classify and compare your data to find interconnections.
