APPENDIX F
Model Description:
Figure F.1 is a 2-D representation of the annular plate shown on the
title page. The outer edge of the plate is simply supported and a
uniform line load of 1.2 lb/in is applied a distance r
o
from the center
of the plate. The loads and boundary conditions for the model are
shown on Figure F.1.
Values for dimensions, material properties, and element properties
are specified in Table F.1.

Suggested Exercise Steps:
s Create a geometry model of the annular plate. Divide the model into
sections to facilitate application of the line load.
s Use mesh seeds to define the mesh density.
s Create a finite element mesh. (GRID and CQUAD4)
s Define material properties. (MAT1)
s Define element properties and apply them to the model. (PSHELL)
s Apply loads and boundary conditions to the model.
s Submit the model to MSC.Nastran for analysis.
s Post-Process results using MSC.Patran.

Submitting the Input File for Analysis:
12. Submit the input file to MSC.Nastran for analysis.
12a. To submit the MSC.Patran .bdf file for analysis, find an
available UNIX shell window. At the command prompt
enter: nastran annular_plate.bdf scr=yes. Monitor the
run using the UNIX ps command.
12b. When the run is completed, edit the annular_plate.f06
file and search for the word FATAL. If no matches exist,
search for the word WARNING. Determine whether
existing WARNING messages indicate modeling errors.
Once the job is completed, attach the resulting .xdb file.
