A Practical Guide to Manipulation

Basic Foundation

Common Weaknesses
Weakness is the basis for attack. Learn to spot weakness, categorise it, and then apply manipulative strategies quickly and effectively. Here are some of the more common ones with effective tactics to target each of them. An excessive need for approval An intense fear of anger A need for peace at any price A tendency to take too much responsibility for other peoples lives A high level of self-doubt

Manipulation Tactics and Counter-Tactics


Combinations of strategies in their respective groups lead to stronger manipulative strategies. When putting these techniques into action, make sure that they are subtle and not clich, always playing on emotions and their sense of what is right. I must think long and hard about how Im

going to apply these in a subtle and cunning way. Obviously, they wont all work in every situation, but if you pick and choose wisely, it is powerful. Charm and reason with lies sprinkled in will work almost every time. You want to instil self-doubt into the victim. To create so much doubt in the minds of their victims that the person no longer trusts their own judgment about things and buys into your assertions. Whatever the tactic that is used, they cause the person being targeted to doubt their gut instincts about what the manipulator is really up to. Their gut tells them theyve been attacked or that someone is trying to get the better of them and they intuitively go on the defensive. But because they often cant find any clear, direct, objective evidence that the other person is merely trying to do them in, they start doubting and questioning themselves. You must maintain a position of power. It is important to seem entirely serious and sincere when you are manipulating people. They dont want to feel like a toy and will quickly catch on if you are not careful. This is especially true when playing directly on emotions with tactics like charming and guilt-tripping. Empathy will get in the way of this so you cannot allow yourself to give them any empathy or restrain your covert-aggressiveness. You must always apply pressure to get them to conform to your will, no matter the cost. The tactics in red must be used with extra caution, but dont be afraid to use them.

Attacking
Charming and seducing are effective tactics that target emotion. Being friendly with someone will lower their guard and provide an easy way to infiltrate. Examples of charming include praising, flattery and being overlysupportive. People want to feel important and needed, they want your approval, your reassurance and a sense of being more valued than anything else. Tell them what they want to hear. Lying is important for this technique.

Defending
To be assertive is to be direct. You want to seem powerful. Use words like I, in sentences like I want to you to and be affirmative. Appear to be the defending one. Be the victim and act innocent. This causes doubt within the attacker and makes him look bad in a social setting.

Attacking
Rationalization. Rationalize things so that they make just enough sense for a weak person to buy into you. Explain to them why you want them to do something and use as many lies as you can to make them feel better about it. You could also explain all of the good things that would come out of doing a certain thing. Extremely effective when paired with another tactics sure as subtle shaming. Make them feel bad for not listening to reason. Make them feel obligated to do something. Rationalization and charming is good for this one. Shame them. Play their sense of what is right and what is wrong. If you want them to submit to you, this technique is a must. Remember, you must be subtle. If you seem innocent, make them feel guilty for doubting you. Sulking is quite effective, but you have to really appear sad and hold your ground so that they know you arent joking.

Defending

Fear can be a powerful technique in getting what you want. Use put downs, sarcasm and shaming in combination with rationalization. If you are subtle about it, you can seem like the good guy. Get your victim to invest themselves emotionally to you. Reward compliance and use other technics when they dont comply. The lottery tactic is powerful concerning loyalty. Playing the servant. When people want to feel like they have power over you, will exploit this lust for power by gaining their trust. This can be used in a variety of ways like subtly shaming them so that they feel like they have to do something to maintain your respect.

Remember: These are merely concepts; its up to you to apply them. Be imaginative in their application, be cunning, and be underhanded.

Lying
The following will outline various techniques to lie in the most effective way. The best lies are by omission. Omit key details while telling only truths. When lying, dont be too quick to answer or it will seem like you prepared a lie in advance and dont take too long or else it will seem like you are trying to formulate a lie. Stay calm and it will come naturally. Be entirely serious when lying. Never be sarcastic or make subtle jokes. Remember, telling truths is a form of weakness. Only those who cannot lie chose not to. If it is to your advantage, always lie Weigh the potential risks of lying before you tell a big one.

Composure
Maintaining good composure and charming techniques is essential for your overall appearance. You must seem calm, innocent and non-aggressive. This is crucial for people to open up to hide your true intentions. Remember, the key to manipulation is the tool being used doesnt realize that they are being used. You must avoid clichd tactics that would give away your manipulative nature. But on the other hand, dont be afraid to surprise them by telling them what they want to hear. You must devise plans in a case to case way in order to keep the victims guessing. You must be subtle. If the manipulated recognise the manipulative nature of your actions, my efforts would be in vain. This can be achieved with various manipulation techniques. Remember, the goal is to keep them from realizing they are being manipulated until it is too late. As long as they dont have any objective evidence, and if you are charming enough, they will doubt themselves instead of you. It is important to get along well with others. This is important because of the monkey see monkey do concept. If lots of people like you, they will be less likely to suspect anything and it will be easier to achieve what you want. When the time is right, they can be exploited and they wont even see it coming. To achieve this, build loyalty and confidence on a person to person basis using the manipulation techniques.
