Eyesight: According to the Cayce readings, the essential work of the blind person is to develop the deeper insight

which will lead to a better outlook. "Awaken more the vision from within, that may add to the moral forces, the spiritual activities, the lightening from within that may bring to self and to those whom the entity may contact that which will make for an experience, a life, worthwhile." (447-1) The temporarily sightless man or woman begins the path to restoration of vision and, more importantly, to transformation and healing with the remembrance that, "These necessitate, then, that preparation be made in the body for the reception of, for the activity of, the divine within the body, the mind of the entity.... Prepare self in mind -- regardless of time." (3504-1) The profound challenge of blindness, which afflicts millions of people, calls out loudly for the "patience, persistence, and consistency" which are hallmarks of the Cayce health readings. Meeting such a condition as blindness, especially when karmic or prenatal in origin, requires long periods of preparation and application, plus attitudinal and life changes. "Let's make haste slowly, and not overstress the correction in vision. Let's make the changes as a growth, and the using of what is obtained in a better or more constructive manner - this will be better than attempting to hasten same." (1861-10) Facing the loss of sight mandates the facing of self. "For while each soul is in the flesh there is a constant meeting of same." (1385-1) Yet viewed through the compassionate perspective of Cayce, this challenge can be recognized as a real opportunity to discover the inner Divinity, else "If they who seek or labor are not directed by Him, they seek or labor in vain." (841-1) Help and Hope

1. Psycho-spiritual "Treatment" for blindness should begin with the Source, while remembering that there is as much of God in the physical as in any other phase of earthly existence. Likewise, therapies and remedies must always take into consideration the individual's level and state of consciousness. One's attitude should be built up and sustained by encouragement, meditation, and prayer. As one person was told, "Hence if that attitude is held with that fortitude and that strength and that vigor of using whatever talents, whatever abilities the entity finds self with, toward constructive forces, then it must build -- and does build -- for a more satisfactory and for a better outlook." (1385-1)

Healing and building must, of course, be for a purpose. This principle is at the heart of Cayce's philosophy of healing, not just for a blind person but for anyone. "Build rather, then, in the mental and spiritual relationships to its fellow man and its Maker. For, these will make for, in this body, in this life that which will answer more than all the material applications that may be made for a physical health of this body." (447-1) A simple and heartfelt prayer for the visually handicapped might begin with these few words from Cayce (or a personal adaptation of them): Use me. Thy Will be done in me and through me.

2. Physical a) In meeting the physical dimensions of blindness, any toxins or poisons in the body should be gradually eliminated. Cleansing via enemas or colonics, sweats or fume baths, and/or gentle laxatives should be attempted on a regular, cyclic basis. An alkaline, vitamin-rich, easilyassimilated diet prevents excesses and toxin accumulation in the system. In addition, it supports the absorption of essential nutrients to aid in the healing process.

b) Pressures on spinal nerve centers, especially from the fourth dorsal to the first cervical, must be removed. This, in itself, can "create a vibration for elimination" and decongestion. Use of an electrically-driven vibrator, massage, chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation should help to produce the needed effect. Osteopathic therapy is the preferred approach to make for "drainages" and "allow for the supply of physical and nerve nutriment to the eyes." (2302-4) Mechanical treatment applied to the spine should stimulate rather than force needed internal adjustments, "... not to move segment itself so much as to stimulate." (2436-5)

c) Resuscitation of nerve energies calls for the use of the Violet Ray applicator, Radio Active Appliance, Wet Cell Battery, or similar electrifying device. While any of these may have beneficial effect, the Wet Cell carrying the chloride of gold vibration is likely (with long-term, persistent and patient application) to better "stimulate nerve-building through proper assimilation." (2436-5)

d) In cases of local irritation or inflammation of the eyes, Irish potato poultices with Boracic (Boric) Acid or GlycoThymoline cleansing are indicated. "This will remove through absorption the inflammation from the lack of optic reaction ..." (3504-1)

Medicine & Healing The named causes of blindness are manifold. In the present day, standard medicine recognizes blindness resulting most commonly from cataracts and glaucoma (causes mostly unknown) and the degenerative effects of diabetes and hypertension (causes chiefly unknown). Modern therapy is almost exclusively devoted to drugs and surgery to treat diseases of the eyes and other body parts on a relatively symptomatic and superficial level. Admittedly, such remedies are often beneficial. Cataract surgery has reached a high level of success and can be readily recommended for large numbers of patients. Still, medicine and surgery go only so far, and they still leave room for complementary approaches for viewing the whole person. Without ignoring such symptoms and conditions or the values of medical technology, Edgar Cayce sketched a truly holistic picture of the pathologies of blindness. Cayce clearly suggests the truth of 19th century neurologist Weir Mitchell's statement, "'Tis not the body, but the man is ill." Yet, the readings give hope and help to the man and woman with loss of sight in facing the many dimensions of their condition. The man or woman is not merely ill, but offered the opportunity to build "for a more satisfactory and a better outlook," to make "a life, worthwhile," and "to shed abroad in the earth ... the love of the Father."

Review Blindness can be confronted using the Cayce perspective to bring material aid and comfort. The general strategy is to set up necessary assimilations and eliminations, relieve spinal pressures, stimulate nerve-building, and attend to local irritations that arise. But, the greater aid may come in promoting "the proper or correct insight into the relationships of the individual entity to the divine forces within." (3461-1) From Cayce's angle, it should be remembered from the outset when approaching such a problem as blindness, that time is irrelevant. The expenditure of work and prayer, energy and time should not be extended merely to attempt the restoration of sight, but chiefly to seek Wholeness. At the same time, remember also that physical effects always lag behind changes in consciousness.

"Know there is forgiveness. Even as the body-mind may forgive others, so may the body here be forgiven. So may it seek through those promises of the All-Creative forces for help, yes; help in a physical as well as a mental manner. Know, indeed, the spirit is willing if ye are in soul and purpose ready to accept the Christ-Consciousness that taketh away sin." (3504-1) With "patience, persistence, and consistency," a new vision (physical and/or otherwise) can be awakened from within, bringing untold opportunities to the once-blind soul. "As there is to be vision, plan, study as to how same may be used to help others." (2302-3)

1. SUN TREATMENT This exercise is very important and everybody should practice it. The right way to do this exercise is to sit or stand facing the sun with the eyes closed and then swings the body gently from side to side like a pendulum for two to five minutes. Morning and evening are the best times for sun treatment. This treatment becomes more effective if honey is applied with a glass rod. This gives better results and relieves strain and pain more quickly.

2. WASHING After the sun treatment, go into the shade and wash the eyes with ordinary or saline water. To wash the eyes, take an eyecup, fill it with water, dip your right eye inside and blink gently ten times. This should then be repeated for the left eye. After washing, the eyes should be gently wiped.

Palming is the most important exercise and all should practice it to get relief from pain and fatigue. Palming is done by covering the closed eyes with the palms of the hands so that no light passes through. Children should be advised to palm regularly, so that they can work better. If it is done often it is one of the best methods for relieving strain and discomfort and gives relaxation.

Game of Ball: This exercise improves the accommodating ability of the eyes. It helps to form the blinking habit. It is done by throwing the ball from one hand to the other. One should follow the ball's movements and blink after each catch. This should be done for ten minutes. Children like to play for a longer period and should be allowed to do so. After practicing for several days the vision improves, giving full relaxation. It is to be noted that all can practice this exercise.

7. DISTANT CHART READING This is where memory becomes a help to the eyes. Two identical charts are used. One of them is hung on the wall and the patient holds the other. The patient reads with blinking the distant chart. When he is unable to do so, he looks at the chart in his hand and then keeps his eyes closed for half a minute. Then with gentle blinking, he looks at the distant chart and tries to make out the letter without straining or squinting. After some time the patient is, with the help of the memory, able to visualize the letter and the distant objects, which he previously was unable to see. Myopia Also known as near-sightedness myopia is the most common vision problem. It usually starts using school years and the first signs are that objects in the distance start to appear blurred. Myopia can be due to too much near work, such as writing, reading and computing. Another cause is emotionally linked when a child sees something that troubles them, but over which they have no control. Leo Angart says that studies of myopia show that 98% of all 5-6 year-olds have perfect vision, but by the time they are 15 years old 2025% of them have myopia. To overcome myopia you need to train the eyes to see clearly at a greater distance. One of the consequences of myopia, unless it is very mild, is lack of energy in the eyes. The following Energy Exercise is what Leo Angart used to heal his eyesight, and is based on the Pranic Healing tradition developed by Master Choa Kok Sui. Energy Exercise

1. Activate your hands by lightly touching the centre of your palms and the tip of each finger, finally shake the hands. [INSERT ENERGY 1 NEXT TO THIS TEXT AND CALL IT 1)] 2. Close the four fingers of one hand to form an imaginary arrow. Close your eyes and imagine apple green energy flowing from the centre of your palm down through your folded fingers to create a beam of green energy. Hold your hand so the finger tips are 10cm away from the Ajna Chakra, the third eye. Breathe in and out seven times as you imagine apple green energy flowing in an endless stream from your fingertips to the point between the eyebrows and filling your eyes with cleansing green energy. The green energy works like soap. Then energise the Ajna Chakra with yellow energy for two breathing cycles. Yellow energy has a sticky effect that binds the loosened energy together, so it is easier to remove. [INSERT ENERGY 2 NEXT TO THIS TEXT AND CALL IT 2)] 3. Now imagine you are wearing a glove of transparent green or violet energy, which extends about 10cm from your fingertips. Use your extended energy fingers to scoop away tired and old stress from your eyes. Clean the eyes all the way to the back of the eyeball. This clears the tension and tiredness in the eyes. 4. Next energise the Ajna Chakra with violet energy for seven breathing cycles. This strengthens the eyes. 5. Find the energy point at the back of the head at the same level as the eyes and for seven breathing cycles visualize white energy flowing from your fingertips through the head and into the eyeballs. [INSERT ENERGY 3 NEXT TO THIS TEXT AND CALL IT 5)] 6. Imagine your hand is a paint roller dipped in blue sky energy. With a couple of sweeps paint a layer of blue around the energy you have projected into your eyes. Blue stablises the energy. [INSERT ENERGY 4 NEXT TO THIS TEXT AND CALL IT 6)] 7. Finally, rub your palms together until they are warm, and finish with about 30 seconds of palming. You may see colours when you do this, and it is the energy being absorbed into the system, but dont be concerned if you do not see colours. [INSERT ENERGY 5 NEXT TO THIS TEXT AND CALL IT 7)] For maximum benefit do this exercise every two hours, because it restores energy to the eyes. Leo Angart has had myopic participants who have improved their eyesight by as much as 8 diopters just by doing this exercise.

Obesity: The first and probably most important etiologic factor is what Cayce calls an "excess of starches in the diet," which we probably relate to the general problem of overeating. When these starches are in excess quantity they create drosses in the system, and these "make for a hardening upon the activity of the glandular system as related to the glands of the body." A program designed to accomplish the objectives just outlined in the second part of the commentary would necessarily begin with the most obvious point needing correction and proceed to those rather difficult complications that are often found in the obese patient. They might be enumerated as follows:

1. Rectify the diet; 2. Restore normal balance and efficiency of eliminations throughout the body - lymphatics and emunctories, liver, kidneys, lungs, and skin; 3. Bring about changes in the cells of the intestinal tract which will reverse the tendency of those cells to turn most things into sugar; 4. Balance the glandular system; 5. Correct other abnormalities which may be present: nervous system incoordination, circulatory system imbalance, etc. The diet must be changed rather radically in order to begin therapy, and the major change brought about is the elimination of most starches. If starches are eliminated, fruits and vegetables must be added to take their place. No fried foods are allowed, and the meat intake is limited to fish, fowl, or lamb. Since eliminations are troublesome for most obese people, a diet including the factors just mentioned is extremely helpful.
