Adding And Subtracting Positive And Negative Numbers Worksheet

Adding And Subtracting Positive And Negative Numbers Worksheet Integers are the positive and negative numbers which extend in both the directions on the number line infinitely. If we draw a number line, we can see that 0 lies in the center of positive and negative numbers which extend endlessly. Every positive integer has its additive inverse as integer negative, and every negative integer has its additive inverse as its integer positive. The list of integers is countless and every integer has its successor, which we get by adding 1 to the previous number and every integer has its predecessor, which we get by subtracting one from every integer. All mathematical operators can be performed on all integers namely addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Here in this unit we are going to learn about the addition and subtraction rules that apply to all the integers. It will be ore clear by practice, for this we have various features available on internet. Adding and Subtracting Integers Worksheets are online available to understand the concept of solving the integers. In this unit we will learn the methods of Adding and Subtracting Integers. First we will learn about Adding Integers: Any two integers, no matter if they are positive or negative are added using the following rules which apply for adding two integers: 1. If two positive integers are added, the result is also a positive integer and the two digits are added. 2. If two negative integers are added, the result is also a negative integer and the two digits are added. 3. If one digit is positive and the another is negative then the result contain the sign of a greater digit and the two digits are subtracted. We can understand it much better with the following examples: + 4 + ( +6) = + 10, here both the digits are positive, so the resultant is also a positive number and both of them are added.

-3 + ( -5) = - 8, here both the digits are negative, so the resultant is also a negative number and both of them are added. (-4 ) + ( + 7 ) = + 3, here 4 is negative and 7 is positive, so the resultant is a positive number and the difference is calculated. ( + 4) +( -7) = - 3, here 7 is negative and 4 is positive, so the resultant is a negative number and the difference is calculated. Now we look at the difference of two integers. We must always remember that while finding the difference, the sign of the number to be subtracted is changed and then the sum becomes the simple sum of addition. Suppose we have: subtract (-4) from 3 It can be written as 3 ( -4), here 2 negative sign appears together and it becomes a positive sign. So we write it as = 3 + 4 = +7 Let us take another example: Subtract +5 from -6
