During the year 2011-2012 there was a marked improvement in the revenue generation through student fee. The State Government and WAKF Board also reasonably funded the university during this period for infrastructural development which I thankfully acknowledge. This has enabled the university to start construction of two academic blocks and the construction of OBC hostel is in the anvil. To ensure constant flow of funds to the University for Development, UGC is persistently being pursued to get the university listed under 12(b) of the UGC Act. For economically underprivileged students, AICTE approved fee waiver scheme has been put in place from the year 2011-12. Besides, the university vigorously pursues the various scholarship programmes enabling 103 students to get scholarships from agencies like Ministry of Minority Affairs, Social Welfare Department and Indian Oil Corporation.

Feedback from the experts who have interacted with our students within or outside the University stand testimony to the fact that IUST has managed to earn a name as a seat of learning where academic standards are high and quality education is paramount. I am sure that in view of the support and encouragement that we are getting from the State Government, WAKF Board, Universities and other educational institutional across the country in general and J&K State in particular, IUST will become one of the best universities in the country in the years to come. I, once again, welcome all the students who succeed in getting admission to our University. The process involves a close relationship between the teacher, designated as Advisor, and a student by way of his/her experience and expertise. The Advisor has to guide/ advise the student not only on academic matters but beyond. He/she has not only to guide the student about his/her credit load and facilitate his/her smooth onward movement but also to keep a record wherein besides the progress report of the student all the details related to academic and personal life of the student should be recorded. The Advisor also has to be in touch with the guardians of the student if warranted so.
Examination System

The University has adopted a semester examination system based on a 10 point grading scale with the objective to expose students to continuous evaluation rather than focus only on term-end examinations. This system ensures that students develop the ability to study regularly and avoid extraordinary workload at the end of each semester. The system also persuades assignment- based learning and encourages students to perform consistently and not study in a sporadic manner, thereby creating the ability to solve practical problems among them. The semester end-examinations shall be conducted twice every
