1 General
1.1 Introduction
The intent of this Specification is to define surface paint systems to be applied on vessels, equipments, piping and structures or other surface with required paint and coloring. This scheme covers the general requirements of final color and bands of piping for RAS AL KHAIR Power and Desalination Plant-Phase I Project "P" Package. The paint procedure, quality control and inspection will be as per requirement of Volume VII P-B0.5 published by SWCC in the Contract.

General Notes
Plant and equipment shall be painted according to following color scheme which is to be based upon the RAL standard. The list may include components that are not part of the works. These are to be disregarded. Color for any items not listed shall be to the Engineers approval and standard color shall be used throughout. All valves, filters, strainers and similar equipment installed in piping shall be painted the same color as the piping. Piping shall be painted with identification color bands and adequate lettering, in the following locations: On all pipework, at not more than 10 m intervals At branches in the pipework, junctions and bends At pumps At either side of all valves Either side of walls, bulk head, and partitions Direction of flow arrows consisting of black arrow on a white background painted on the pipework shall be provided adjacent to each identification color band. No special color requirements apply to surfaces that are not normally visible, e.g. the insides of tanks.
2 General Color Coding System

The following Color Codes are based on list published by SWCC in Contract Document Annex PC0-15_QA10-F-313, Exhibit 7. Proposed changes to contract table are highlighted. Color codes for new systems are proposed in the lower part of the table. In case new systems are introduced, the engineer shall approve the proposed color code.

4 Color Code for Electrical Equipment

4.1 General
RAL 7032, pebble-grey shall be applied for all electric and instrumentation equipment housings.
4.2 Color code for indications, push buttons on control cubicles, panels, desks, etc.

Push buttons Green shall be applied for all push buttons installed in the control desk, which are operable only together with the release push buttons. All other push buttons on local panels or cubicles will be black or dark grey. Where the On/Off function of a push button cannot easily be identified by the location, this will be indicated by a sign "ON"/"OFF" or "0"/"I" or by color code as described above. For mimic diagrams which are to be included in the particular cubicles or cabinet front panels etc. the Contractor has to elaborate a color scheme to be approved by the Engineer. The required setting indicators, apparatus symbols have to be incorporated in the mimic diagrams. The individual voltage levels on the mimic diagram must in any case be represented by different colors.
5 Color Code for Control and instrument

5.1 General
All electrical equipment mounted in or on switchgear, panels and desks, shall have readily accessible connections and shall be wired to terminal blocks for the reception of external cabling. The insulation of the wiring shall comply with IEC and shall be of a capable of withstanding without deterioration the conditions at Site, due allowance being made for such temperature conditions as may arise within any enclosure. The insulating material shall flame retardant in accordance with IEC 60332.

All wiring shall be of adequate cross-sectional area to carry prospective short-circuit currents without risk of damage to conductors, insulation or joints. All conductors for wiring in panels or equipment shall comprise stranded copper conductors, except where specifically approved by the Engineer for wire wrapped installations or similar where single core conductors are being used. The minimum cross section of wire shall be 2.5 sq. mm. for all secondary wiring associated with current transformers of nominal secondary rating of 0.5 A or greater. The size of wiring for circuits other than CT secondary wiring shall be not less than 1.5 sq. mm. cross-sectional areas. The minimum strand diameter of copper or tinned copper flexible conductors shall be 0.20 mm for flexible and the minimum cross-sectional area shall be 1.5 sq. mm. for all cables. For wiring within panels on control circuits below 60 V not directly associated with circuit breaker protection and control, and having a continuous or intermittent load current of less than one ampere, the use of smaller wire down to 0.5 sq. mm. will be permitted subject to Engineer's approval. Where an overall screen is used, this shall be metallic screen or low resistance tape, with drain wire as above. All cables shall be provided with 10% spare cores. Wiring shall be supported using an insulated system which allows easy access for fault finding and facilitates the installation of additional cables. Connections to apparatus mounted on doors, or between points subject to relative movement, shall be made in flexible wires, arranged so that they are subjected to torsion rather than bending. Within cubicles/desks/panels, all LV main circuits (electrical equipment and interconnections) and control and auxiliary circuits directly connected to the power circuits shall be designed for the following minimum rated insulation voltage with respective test voltage: Rated Insulation Voltage 400V AV switchgear 690V 110/125 V D.C. switchgear 300V 24 V D.C. switchgear 300V Table 16: Minimum rated insulation voltage Test Voltage (1 minute) 2.5kV 2.0kV 2.0kV

5.2 Identification of wires

The wiring and cores of internal wiring in switchgear, control panels and desks, relay panels, marshalling kiosks and the like shall be identified in accordance with the associated connection/wiring diagrams either by means of identified by wire numbers except when an automatic system of wiring is used. Both ends of every wire shall be fitted with interlocking ring-type ferrules of white insulating material, and engraved in black. The identification numbering system used for the ferrules shall be to the approval of the Engineer. Where a wire of a multicore cable passes from one piece of equipment to another, e.g. from a circuit breaker to a remote control panel, the Tenderer shall ensure that the identity of the wire is apparent at both ends by the use of functional local dependent ferruling. Each core of multi-pair wiring shall be identified by color and terminal block identification together with an identification tracer per bundle.

Permanent identification of all terminals, wires and terminal blocks shall be provided. All wirings shall conform to a color code, in accordance with the following code: DC Circuits Grey (trip circuits shall be provided with red ferrules at the terminal blocks) PT Circuits Red CT Circuits Yellow Alarm Circuits Blue AC power Circuits Black Connection to earth Green/Yellow Table 18: Wiring color code A consistent system of wiring numbering/identification shall be used throughout the plant. The system shall be approved by the Engineer.
6. Safety colors, safety symbols and safety signs

Safety colors, safety symbols and safety signs must comply in construction, geometrical form, color and meaning with the ISO 3864-1:2002 and ISO 7010:2003 of the ISO committee. All Emergency exit, fire exit and other warning signs shall be illuminated signboards. The positions for the signs must be chosen so that they are within the field of vision of the persons to whom they apply. The signs should be permanently attached. Temporarily dangerous areas (e.g. construction sites, assembly areas) may also be marked by movable signs. The safety signs must be mounted or installed in such a manner that there is no possibility of misunderstanding.
6.1 General meaning of geometric shapes, safety colors and contrast colors
The general meaning assigned to geometric shapes, safety colors and contrast colors for safety signs is given in Table 19 .

6.2 Safety signs

The safety colors, contrast colors and geometric shapes shall be used only in the following combinations to obtain the five basic types of safety signs (see Figures 1 to 7). Figures 1- Prohibition signs

6.5 Escape route signs

A graphical symbol sign, a supplementary sign and a supplementary directional arrow sign may be combined to provide a comprehensive directional safety message. Examples are given as below in Figures 14 to 16. Directional arrows shall be placed above or below or to the left or right of the safety sign.

6.6 Safety marking

The bands are of equal width inclined at an angle of approximately 45. The colors of safety marking which indicate hazard locations shall be a combination of yellow and contrast black as shown in Figure 17.
