Background description This proposal describes the steps needed to install hair weave extensions by using the sew-in method. The instructional document includes text to describe the required steps and pictures to act as a visual guide as each step is complete. This document describes the steps needed for the learner to thread the hair needle, braid clean hair, measure weave to the head and cut, sew weave onto braid, and knot the thread. After completing this instructional the learners should be able to install one hair weave extension correctly. Learners The adult learners include females and males interested in learning to install weave extensions into hair. Their ages range from the late adolescence to those into their late adulthood. The learners should be familiar with hair terminology such as weft, track, thread, sew-in, needle. The adult learners must possess at least a partial understanding of sewing, which includes but not limited to stitching, parting hair into sections, and braiding hair (of all textures) close to the scalp. The learners should be able to braid hair with speed. The learners must be able to use both hands. The learners will work

at home, hair salon, back stage, and/or photography/video studio. This lesson will be designed for learners who are familiar with hair terminology and have a desire to sew hair extensions into the hair. This will be a self-directed text

based lesson and will be placed on a do it yourself website as a PDF file and a blog entry for any interested learner to download. Goal statement Goal: At the end of this instructional lesson the learner will be able to correctly sew hair extensions into the hair. Learning domain: Intellectual Skill Goal Analysis Dick, Carey, and Carey (2009) stated that a goal analysis has two steps: classify what is to be expected to be learned and identify and sequence the steps required to perform the goal. Dick, Carey, and Carey (2009) discussed the various types of learning such as Domains of Learning taxonomy developed by Gagne. The instructional goal may be classified as a instructional skill. This goal requires the learners to do some unique cognitive activity. The learner requires prior knowledge. The learner must be able to apply rules to sew in hair extensions with precise, smooth, and accurately timed

performances with muscle movements (Gagne, 1984; Gagne's Outcomes of Learning, n.d.)

Goal Statement: The learner will be able to correctly sew hair extensions into the hair.

1.0 French braid hair close to the scalp in the back of the head

2.0 Measure hair weave track

3.0 Thread the needle

4.0 Sew measured track into braid

2.1 Place weave track against braid to measure length

2.2 Cut using sheer scissors

3.1 Select correct color thread and cut 4.1 cut thread at the end of sewn in track and knot the thread

Entry Skills
1.1 Part hair into sections 2.1.1 Select hair
weave texture based on natural hair texture

2.1.2 Analyze head to

determine how much weave is needed

1.1.1 Examine hair

texture, then select appropriate comb

4.1.1 Insert needle through braided hair

Skill Goal Statement The learner will be able to correctly sew hair extensions into the hair 1.0 French braid hair close the scalp in the back of the head (Entry Skill)

Performance Objective (do not include other information) Terminal Objective The learner will be able to correctly sew hair extensions into the hair

Assessment Assessment The assessment will include an observational checklist

1.0 The learner will be able to braid hair close to scalp in less than 50 seconds per braid

1.1 Part hair into sections (Entry Skill) 1.1.1 Examine hair texture, select correct comb to part hair (Entry Skill) 2.0 Measure weave track against braided hair 2.1 Place weave track against braid to measure length 2.1.1 Select hair weave texture based on natural hair texture 2.1.2 Analyze head to determine how much weave is needed 2.2 Cut hair extensions using sheer scissors 3.0 Thread the needle

1.1 The learner will part hair into equal sections 1.1.1 The leaner will examine hair texture and select correct comb to part hair 2.0 The learner will measure weave track against braided hair 2.1 The learner will place weave track against braid to measure length 2.1.1 The learner will select hair weave texture based on natural hair texture 2.1.2 The learner will analyze head to determine how much weave is needed 2.2 The learner will cut hair using sheer scissors 3.0 The learner will thread the needle in less than 10 seconds

The instructor will note braid on checklist and does not offer assistance unless 50 seconds passes. If the learner is unable to braid hair, the learner must find help from classmate or instructor. Instructor notes on checklist that the learner has part hair into equal sections Instructor notes on checklist that the learner has selected appropriate hair comb for hair texture Instructor notes on checklist that the learner measured weave track Instructor notes on checklist that the learner place weave track against braid Instructor notes on the checklist the learner will select hair weave texture based on natural hair texture Instructor notes on the checklist that the learner will analyze head to determine how much weave is needed Instructor will note on checklist that the learner used sheer scissors to cut hair extension Instructor will note on checklist that the learner threaded needle in less than 10 seconds. If learner is

7
not able to thread in 10 seconds the learner must repeat and use a timer to monitor time. Instructor will indicate on checklist that the learner selected the correct thread color and cut thread. Instructor will indicate on checklist that the learner correctly sew measured track into braid Instructor will indicate on checklist that the learner cut thread at the end of sewn in track and knot the thread. Instructor will indicate on checklist that the learner inserted needle through braided hair

3.1 Select correct thread color and cut 4.0 Sew measured track into braid 4.1 Cut thread at the end of sewn in track and knot the thread. 4.1.1 Insert needle through braided hair

3.1 The learner will select correct thread color and cut 4.0 The learner will sew measured track into braid 4.1 The learner will cut thread at the end of sewn in track and knot the thread. 4.1.1 The learner will insert needle through braided hair.
