Research Paper Specific guidance on the research paper submission is provided below: A 12-15 page paper (excluding appendices,

table of contents, abstract, reference and bibliography) research paper (case study) is required. This paper represents fifty percent of your final course grade. Students will select a firm operating in the international business environment. The information required in Section I should be readily available for all publicly held corporations. Generally managerial accounting information for business firms is usually not readily available to the public. As a result of this you may not be able to find actual information for Sections II-V of the paper. However, the firms annual report and other available documents will provide you with financial data and other information as a basis of your analysis for Sections II-V. There is an expectation that there will be some manipulation of financial data in Sections II-V. This paper will be prepared consistent with APA Manual and will have a minimum of ten difference references. This paper is due the last day of class. This paper is worth 50 percent of the total grade. This paper will consist of five sections. In addition, this research paper will be prepared consistent with the following guidelines: 1) Section I: There will be a brief discussion of the firm to include its principle goods and services, market share, geographic locations where it operates, and major competitors. 2) Section II: Evaluate and discuss whether the firm could benefit by evaluating financial statements, financial ratios, and industry averages. The discussion should include what factor(s) influenced your decision, the ramifications of correct and faulty analysis, and how industry averages might help or hurt a company in terms of stock price. 3) Section III: Evaluate and discuss whether the firm could benefit by using standard costs. The discussion should include what factor(s) influenced your decision, the ramifications of costs, quantity, and variances, and the ramifications of using standard costs in the international business environment. 4) Section IV: Evaluate and discuss how the firm could benefit by analyzing future projects in terms of net present value. This discussion should include the firms future plans, such as, expansion, consolidation, and downsizing and how net present value could be used in the decision making. 5) Section V: Summary, conclusions, and recommendations. The discussion should provide a brief summary of the previous sections, the conclusions you have reached, and your recommendations based upon your research.
