2 Running head: ESSAY 1 Introduction This essay gives a description of my experience during my final year project of in my last year of engineering. The name of my project was Placement Management System. This project was done by a team of three members including myself under the guidance of Prof. Mahajan (Director of Computer Science Department) who acted as a project manager. The goal of our project was to make placement management software for the engineering students of my college Institute of Engineering and Science, IPS Academy, India. The purpose was to facilitate students with all placement activities like online resume submission, updating marks of all the semesters, view the companys details coming for recruiting the students. Finally, the project was successfully installed and implemented in IES IPS Academy engineering college. Discussion It was a very big project for me. My team members and I were very excited. This was the first time I developed software for an organization. In order to get our goal and to reach our purpose successfully, our project manager assigned roles to different team member. The initiating step of our project was planning. We planned our project by taking our client needs into consideration. We had to consider the market factors, technical factors, risks, and assumptions of our project. We started with our first activity by taking a survey of the students and Training Placement Officer (TPO), by asking about their needs and what facilities they require to manage the placement activities. Then we made a rough model of our project. After that we started with the programming part. One thing which was very important in our project was to provide a good means for interaction between the TPO and the students. This was accomplished by providing a feature called chat room for the students and the TPO. We commenced the programming part which was divided between different team members. At the

3 Running head: ESSAY 1 stage of developing a database of our software, we got stuck. A problem occurred in the connectivity between the database and the programming language. We tried to solve that problem, but at last we had to change our database from a SQL server to an Oracle server. After that, our project ran successfully. Finally, we did the testing part. Conclusion I will never forget the day when we finally installed our software on our college website. It was done successfully. According to my analysis, I neither prepared any project matrix nor any project charter. Because of this, I faced some problems in my project management. But I finally achieved my goal, and my project is still running in that college.
