Unrealized ideas from Montreal

Participating members Veronique Malo and Emily Mennerdahl of The
Independant Study Group (ISG) invites you to participate in an exhibition
that will take place in the spring of 2009 at Gallery Rotor at Valand
School of Art in Gothenburg, Sweden.

We want to know more about the process that takes place in preparation of
making, the process that happens before an object of art is conceived. We
are not looking for finished work. We want unedited ideas, processes,
everything and all that comes before the final production. Searching,
classifying, studying, memorializing, categorizing and the archiving of a
grand idea.

The importance does not lie in what will be but in what is.

We prefer simplicity over complexity.

We want to show the development of ideas for something that can not or
perhaps will not ever be conceived.

How the hell are you supposed to know how the universe functions

- Lawrence Weiner

Ideas can be works of art; they are in a chain of development that may eventually
find some form. All ideas need not be made physical.
For each work of art that becomes physical there are many variations that do not.

Irrational judgements lead to new experience.

The words of one artist to another may induce an idea chain, if they share the
same concept.

ISG is a group of research that critiques research, that finds

alternative ways of researching, of studying. The study of the
unstudied, the cracks, the in between, the forgotten. ISG is
convivial, is inclusive. ISG has many branches, it manifests
itself through a space. It reinvents itself with the place. ISG
is nomadic. ISG is public, it is informal, it is workshops
about the forgotten, seminars on the unseen. ISG reinvents
itself in new places. Studies the place itself from a different
