The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

On Sunday, June 3, three of our parishioners were confirmed by Bishop Conlon at St. Raymonds Cathedral in Joliet. They joined over 250 others in being confirmed. Each candidate for confirmation had been baptized and has previously received communion, yet had not completed initiation into the Catholic Church by the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation. The candidates at the Cathedral ranged in age of fifteen to more mature. It was a beautiful day for so many as they all completed reception into full communion with the Catholic Church. We would like to congratulate our candidates: Aidan Sebastian Gallegos, Azahel Luke Gallegos and Robert Alexander Cerdes.

Significant Improvement in the Christ the King Gym & Classroom Lighting

Catholic Charities Seeks Donations for Low-Income Clients in DuPage County

Catholic Charities is seeking donations of toilet paper, paper towels, soap, toothpaste, shampoo, cleaning supplies (Windex, toilet bowl cleaner, all-purpose cleaner) bug repellant and sun block for their low income and homeless clients. If you can help, please contact Yvonne Morrongiello at 630-495-8008 ext. 2122 or ymorrongiello@cc-doj.org to schedule a drop-off. To learn more about the programs and services provided by Catholic Charities, visit catholiccharitiesjoliet.org.

This May vast improvement in the school lighting was completed for the Gymnasium, classroom and corridor. This improvements resulted in higher quality lighting and also will result in significant energy savings in the future. A. Gymnasium: Before the conversion from the existing Metal Halide Lamps to Fluorescent T-8 Lamps the illumination level in the gymnasium was just over 30 foot-candles, partly because the existing light lens (cover) was so deteriorated hardly any light passed through it. After the new light fixtures with the T-8 lamps were installed, the illumination was close to 75 foot-candles. This is recommended lighting level for sports such as high school basketball. This will encourage other schools to rent our gymnasium. The other benefit of the improved lighting is the energy savings estimated at $2,600 per year. The payback period (when we recovered all the installation cost) is 2.6 years. If we factor the offer of renters using our gymnasium to pay some of the installation cost the payback period is even less. B. Classroom: All the light fixtures in the classroom were converted from the fluorescent T-12 to the new fluorescent T-8 lamps. The result is again an improvement in the illumination levels close to 100 footcandles. This is the recommended level in a classroom for ordinary reading and writing. The color rendition index has also improved, which will help the students from straining their eyes. The estimated energy savings for the classrooms is $2,700 per year. The payback period 2.1 years. C. Corridors and other lighting: The same conversion that was done in the classroom was applied to the corridor and other lights with same improved results. The energy savings for this conversion is $2,000 per year. The payback period is 2.4 years. In conclusion in less than 3 years the school will save an estimated $7,300 per year in energy cost plus the benefit of a vastly improved lighting condition. Jun Penas Administration Commission.

This month we are celebrating our first year anniversary. We have made 26 shawls, 21 capes, 42 lap robes, 195 small pillows for sitting comfort, 46 catheter covers, and 33 wheelchair or walker caddies for our seniors at DuPage Convalescent Center, Lexington House, and Beacon Hill. In addition, our ladies have crocheted 58 baby blankets, some with matching booties or hats, and have made an additional 7 pairs of booties, and 22 baby hats for Womens Choice and Good Samaritan Hospital. We are now taking on another project, which is the Little Sisters of the Poor (St. Marys in Chicago). Its residents are retired nuns and the elderly. We would welcome the women in the parish who would like to join us in either knitting or crocheting. We meet on Wednesday at 1:00pm -3:00pm in the East Room, lower level of the Rectory. We have easy patterns and everyone is willing to help anyone with the desire to relearn how to knit or crochet. Your donations of yarn are always appreciated, so please spring clean your attics, basement, or closets and drop off any yarn that is laying about the house and doing nothing. We can put it to good use. God Bless you, from the Ladies of the Prayer Shawl Ministry.

Christ the King Parish will participate in Habitat for Humanity service project. This is for anyone over the age of 18, 16-17 with parent supervision. Experience is most helpful; however there is help for those in need. The day of service will be on Sat. July 21, 2012. The location will be in the Western suburbs. The work day is 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. We are taking a group of only 10 volunteers. If you would like to support Habitat for Humanity and are not able to work, financial contributions are always welcome. Today we celebrate the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi), a day that helps us appreciate the Sacrament that gathers us together around the table of the Lord. Through the Eucharist, as Stewards of the Kingdom of God, Christ gives us a share in the mystery that is God's love for us.

New Schedule First Thursday Exposition / Adoration will take place on July 5, and August 2 from 9:00am until Midnight. All other Thursdays during Summer, the church is open for adoration of Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle from 9am-8pm.

What price would you pay for freedom?

The newly released movie "For Greater Glory" tells the story of an impassioned group of men and women in Mexico during the 1920's who risk it all for religious freedom. "For Greater Glory vividly depicts the difficult circumstances in which Catholics of that time lived - and died for - their faith. It is a top-flight production whose message of the importance of religious freedom has particular resonance for us today. It is my earnest hope that people of faith throughout or country will rally behind For Greater Glory, and in doing so, will highlight the importance of religious freedom in our society." - Most Reverend Jose H. Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles The movie opened in theaters on Friday, June 1. More information can be found at www.ForGreaterGlory.com. Interested in finding a date we can go together as a parish or wish to organize this event, please let me know. frpeter@ctklombard.org Fr. Jarosz, Christ the King, Lombard.

Consecration of the Family

Almighty Father, we consecrate ourselves and our home to the Sacred Heart of Jesus who loves us with a tender and everlasting love. Strengthen us with Your grace that we might return His love in the way we treat, respect, and love each other. We welcome Jesus as a living member of our family and ask Him to the heart of our family. We accept Mary as our heavenly Mother and seek her protection and help in our daily lives. Heavenly Father, grant that our love may go beyond our home into the world so that we may do our part to build up Your kingdom, to feed the hungry, to help the poor, and to lead all souls to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Amen

Corpus Christi Sunday

This feast, now called the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, developed during the Middle Ages (in the year 1264) at the request of St. Thomas Aquinas who wrote the hymns and prayers for the feast. Its purpose was to emphasize the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. A procession with the Blessed Sacrament in a monstrance was a public display of faith. Processions, incense, flowers, canopy, monstrance! For 800 years people looked at and adored our Lord in the Eucharist, singing about the awesome presence of Christ among us, remembering Holy Thursday, spiritually communing but rarely daring to receive the Body and Blood of the Lord in Holy Communion. Today we understand once more that the Eucharist is for eating and drinking. The feast of the Body and Blood of Christ calls us to ponder the love of our savior who came to be with us and to serve us in a most ordinary way, and to ask how we might follow more closely in his footsteps.
