2.1 User Summary - Online Help Text Inaccuracies
The Help text for System Access contains some inaccuracies. The text for The User Summary should be as follows: The User Summary Network administrators can define users, passwords, and access levels for users using the System Access Interface. The Multi-Session web feature is enabled on device and allows users to be created and access the switch concurrently. Access levels provide read or read/write permissions to users for configuring the switch. Login information is managed in the local database. A unique password is required of each user. Two access levels exist on the 3Com Web Interface: Management access level Provides the user with read/write access. There is always one management level user configured for the switch. The factory default is user name: admin with no Password. 3Com recommends that you change the password to prevent unauthorized access. If the admin password is lost it can be removed in Fail Safe mode. See Troubleshooting in the User Guide for details. Monitor access level Provides the user with read-only system access.

3. New Features Supported in v01.01.00.10

3.1 Access Control Lists (ACLs)
Access Control Lists are supported in this release. Access Control Lists (ACL) allow network managers to define classification actions and rules for specific ingress ports. Packets entering an ingress port, with an active ACL are either admitted or denied entry. If they are denied entry, the port can be disabled. For example, an ACL rule is defined states that port number 20 can receive TCP packets, however, if a UDP packet is received, the packet is dropped. ACLs are composed of access control entries (ACEs) that are made of the filters that determine traffic classifications.

3.2 3Com Local User Database

The 3Com Local User Database is supported in this release. The 3Com Local User Database allows the small business user to use user authentication based on a user/password database contained in the switch. To use this function, browse to the following menu in the web interface: Security -> Local Database The Setup tab is used to enable the function. The Port Setup tab defines which ports use this function. The User Setup tab is used to enter username/password combinations.

Then, devices that connect to the ports that have local database enabled will require the PC user to use a web browser to gain access to the port. Web access will be redirected to an authentication web page, where users will need to enter the username/password combination setup by the administrator. Once authenticated, users will be able to pass traffic beyond the switch.

3.3 LACP
Link Aggregation Control Protocol is supported in this release. This protocol allows the switch to automatic manage the ports that are connected to form a trunk or link aggregation. On the previous release of code links had to be manually assigned. For more information on how to configure and manage ACLs, the 3Com Local User Database or LACP, refer to the 3Com Baseline Switch 2226-SFP Plus, 2250-SFP Plus and 2426-PWR Plus User Guide (part number 10016622 Rev BA).

4. Upgrading Software
For instructions on how to upgrade the Switch to this firmware version, please refer to the 3Com Baseline Switch 2226-SFP Plus, 2250-SFP Plus and 2426-PWR Plus User Guide (part number 10016622 Rev BA). We recommend backing up the configuration parameters before starting the upgrade process.

Please note it is only necessary to upgrade the Switch to this version of code if you have a Switch that was supplied with a previous version of the software. If you are unsure of the version of software in your switch, refer to the User Guide for instructions on how to determine the Software version.

5. Important Information for Release v01.01.00.10

5.1 PoE Power Management Implementation (Switch 2426PWR Plus Only)
The Baseline Switch 2426-PWR Plus has been designed so that all of the 180W power budget is available for devices connected to the switch. This does mean, however, that there is no reserve power which is kept back in order to support connected devices that may need additional power for example, a wireless access point starting to transmit at a higher power, or a telephone ringing. In practice this may mean that low priority devices may be disconnected from PoE if the higher power devices require more power than the switch can deliver. These may then be re-connected once power once more becomes available. In these circumstances, it is recommended that the following actions are followed: Always assign system critical PoE devices to high priority ports. By default the lowest number ports have priority over higher numbered ones (i.e. port 1 has the highest priority, port 24 the lowest) Set the guaranteed power to whatever is required for the connected devices Monitor the total system power during installation of new PoE devices, and if the total power being drawn reaches or comes close to the 180W limit consider installing additional PoE capability
