PREFACE
In order to face the competition and to be successful every business needs the thorough information regarding customers needs and demands, their likes and dislike and the strategies are made by analyzing this information. Marketing research helps the marketing manager in fulfilling the demands of customer by providing them this information. Marketing research process includes the collection of data, analysis of data, interpretation of data and fact finding. Research is defined as the process of knowing the facts and verifying the old ones by the application of scientific methods to natural phenomena so as to come to uniform of laws governing these phenomena. The research process involves a circular flow because result of research studies provides some opportunities and aware about threats which may occur in future, so the further research is also important. Thus it is a continuous process. I tried my level best to conduct a research to gain thorough knowledge regarding peoples view on increasing trend of use of social networking websites among children. MY topic is IMPACT OF SOCIAL NETWORKING WEBSITES ON SMALL KIDS I carried out my research with the help of questionnaire in a precise manner.I conducted my research in the area nearby to knowledge park Greater Noida. Most of my respondents were techsavy individuals . There are two reasons behind justification of my project ;1.The project helped me in gaining the knowledge about public opinion regarding Impact of social networking websites on small kids. 2.I got the practical experience of marketing research.

CHAPTER-1 OVERVIEW OF THE TOPIC

These days everybody is familiar to social networking websites. Most of the people use these sites on regular basis. Initially this trend was more famous among youths but with the technological advancement and changing times social networking has become an important part of life of children. But like the other technological innovations social networking also has its Pros & Cons. At one end these websites help children in being updated with latest trends and helping in facing their loneliness but on the other hand these sites are responsible for generating many physical and psychological problems. More than 150 million people use these sites to keep in touch with their friends, and children share a huge part of this population. There are different reasons for childrens attraction toward these sites. Working parents, Nuclear families, increasing pressure of studies and fear of being backward in this fast growing society are most important reasons. My research is focused on finding the facts behind childrens attraction towards these sites and impact of these sites on their studies and health.

CHAPTER-2 REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Social websites harm children's brains: Chilling warning to parents from top neuroscientist By DAVID DERBYSHIRE
Social networking websites are causing alarming changes in the brains of young users, an eminent scientist has warned. Sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Bebo are said to shorten attention spans, encourage instant gratification and make young people more self-centred. The claims from neuroscientist Susan Greenfield will make disturbing reading for the millions whose social lives depend on logging on to their favourite websites each day. Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The popular website has made him a very rich man, but at what cost to human relationships? But they will strike a chord with parents and teachers who complain that many youngsters lack the ability to communicate or concentrate away from their screens. More than 150million use Facebook to keep in touch with friends, share photographs and videos and post regular updates of their movements and thoughts. A further six million have signed up to Twitter, the 'micro-blogging' service that lets users circulate text messages about themselves. But while the sites are popular - and extremely profitable - a growing number of psychologists and neuroscientists believe they may be doing more harm than good. Baroness Greenfield, an Oxford University neuroscientist and director of the Royal Institution, believes repeated exposure could effectively 'rewire' the brain. Experts are concerned children's online social interactions can 'rewire' the brain Computer games and fast-paced TV shows were also a factor, she said. 'We know how small babies need constant reassurance that they exist,' she told the Mail yesterday.

'My fear is that these technologies are infantilising the brain into the state of small children who are attracted by buzzing noises and bright lights, who have a small attention span and who live for the moment.'

Facebook may cause psychological disorders: Study

How much time do you spend on social networking sites? Are you a Facebook addict? Here is a shocking news for all social networking addicts - soon, you may face psychological disorders! According to a paper presented at the 119th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association, pre-teens and teenagers who use technology, like the Internet and video games, on a regular basis will have more stomach aches, sleeping problems, anxiety and depression. In his paper entitled, "Poke Me: How Social Networks Can Both Help and Harm Our Kids," Larry D. Rosen, PhD, professor of psychology at California State University, found positive and negative effects of social networking sites on children and teenagers. According to Rosen, Teens who use Facebook continuously may show narcissistic tendencies and young adults show more signs of other psychological disorders. Spending more time on Facebook may also bring health related problems. Negative Effects of Facebook: Teens who use Facebook more often show more narcissistic tendencies while young adults who have a strong Facebook presence show more signs of other psychological disorders, including antisocial behaviors, mania and aggressive tendencies.

Daily overuse of media and technology has a negative effect on the health of all children, preteens and teenagers by making them more prone to anxiety, depression, and other psychological disorders, as well as by making them more susceptible to future health problems.

CHAPTER-4 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Marketing Research is the function which links the consumer, customer and public to the marketer through information. Information used to identify and define marketing opportunities and problems generate, evaluate marketing actions, monitor marketing performances, and improve understanding of marketing scenario. SAMPLING METHOD My research project is based on Impact of social networking websites on small kids So, I used simple random sampling. i. Simple Random Sampling ii. Area Sampling The sampling method was only based on personal interviews. This questionnaire is framed in such a way that it provide us continue response from the youth available in research area and to achieve flexibility by asking certain close ended questions. The time constraints and various other factors were also to be kept in mind while framing the marketing research questionnaire. I selected Random Sampling and area sampling method for marketing research. SIMPLE RANDOM SAMPLING I have chosen face to face process as interview technique and market intercept. After editing, compiling and cleaning the data I used percentage method as a tool of data analysis. AREA OF RESEARCH I have given Delhi NCR as our research area that includes Noida, Delhi, G.Noida, etc. For my convenience I have selected Knowledge park, City park ,

12

Ansal plaza and jagat farm as an area of research for the marketing research project.

SAMPLE UNIT My project is based upon social networking websites so our sampling units were Techsavy people. As per the guidelines provided by the institute I have taken 150 respondents for doing Marketing Research project. Most of my respondents were students of post graduate courses.

13

I have used the conclusive Research Method in this study. As my project deals with the study of Impact of social networking websites on small kids. So, my primary aim is to find the awareness about impacts of social networking sites. I had interacted with people of different places in Greter Noida and came out with some conclusions, for that I had framed fifteen questions. EXPLORATORY RESEARCH:I had to explore the various new relationships in the eye of the respondents and find out how they influence their perceptions. We had to assume the propositions and verify them with the respondents viewpoints. Accordingly all the questions were dealing with finding out various factors, responsible for the preferences of the respondent. From the data we obtained and represented the findings through pie charts of answers given by 150 respondents. Thus we conclude that our research by obtaining specific results concerning respondents view about impact of social networking websites on children. Now it is further divided into the following: Study of secondary dataStudy of secondary data is the quickest and most economical way of researchers to possible hypothesis or to take advantage of other works. Reports from research organization furnishing continuing data, trade associations, and sales data and company records, such as those kept for accounting and sales analysis are other fruitful sources. There is now a large volume of basic research reported in professional and trade journals and in government documents that may stipulate hypothesis. A survey of secondary data can be expedited if it is organized both external and internal types of secondary data to the company multiplying at a tremendous rate. The result is to make a much larger volume of secondary data operationally available to the researchers.
14

1 .Survey-All those who have any association with the efforts to market the products in question are potential sources of information in a MR project. Such as individuals may include anybody related anyhow to the topic. Individual interviews may be in-depth interview or projective techniques by which respondents are asked to project themselves into a particular situation, group interviews have come to be called focused group interviews. Project technique is another approach to get respondents to reveal more than thin surface feelings, projective devices can be used to help the consumer express the different images they may have of competitive brands of a given product. Focus groups are intended to reveal some of the complex & subtle aspects of the relationship between the consumers on one hand & products, advertising & sales efforts on the other. 2. Case StudyThis method has long been considered Soft. The case method has received more attention. Indeed the case method might be considered one. Variation of the survey of individuals with ideas. It involves the comprehensive study of one or a few specific situation andlends itself particularly to the study of complex situation in which the inter-relation of several individuals is important. The emphasis is on obtaining a complete description and understanding of the relationship among factors in each instance regardless of the number involved. CONCLUSIVE RESEARCH: Conclusive research provides information that helps the executive so that he can make a rational decision. In some instances particularly if an experiment is run, the research in many come close to specifying the precise alternative to choose; in other cases, especially with descriptive studies, the research will only partially clarify the situation, and much will be left to the executive judgment. This study has done well while attempting to arrive at a more clear description of an apparent problem. Conclusive research study can be classified as: 1. Descriptive study, and 2. Experimental study 1. Descriptive study: Descriptive study as their name implies is designed to describe something. The characteristics of users of a given products, the degree to with the product use varies with income, age, sex or other characteristic or the number of
15

whom saw an specific television commercials, etc. A majority of marketing research studies is of this type. To be of maximum value, a descriptive must collect the data for a definite purpose. Definite data are commonly used as a direct basis for marketing decisions after analysis of data. The investigator attempts to predict the result of certain actions they may predict that concentration of advertising on upper income people will increase sales volume. Descriptive study can be done in two ways: 1. Case Study: When the case method is used in exploratory research, the Purpose is to discover new ideas about relationship, which are then tested by conclusive research. If any conclusion is drawn from the case studies the testing of these conclusions occurs only as they are put into practice. Statistical Method: The statistical method is the most widely used in marketing research. This method is the most widely used in marketing research. This method involves the study of a few factors in a large number of cases. As more cases are involves the statistical method must use different Methods of analysis methods designed for mass data, to Identify cases and focuses instead on classes average percentage measures of dispersion and more sophisticated statistical procedures. 2. Experimental Study:Experiments are much more effective than descriptive techniques in establishing cause and effective relationships. The collection of data in an experiment is organized in such a way as to permit relatively unambiguous interpretation. Design of experiments tends itself more readily to rational analysis and provides an ideal against which other research designs can be compared. There could be laboratory and field experiment. In laboratory experiments, test subject, usually consumers are brought to a particular place and then they are examined while in field experiments variables are taken in the field. Some experimental designs are described below AFTER ONLY DESIGN: Applying the experimental variable to an experimental group and measuring the dependent variable after the application of experimental variable. Experimental design is often used with new products when the before measurement is known to be zero.
16

BEFORE AFTER WITH CONTROL GROUP DESIGN: The experimental groups are selected in such way that they are similar and are considered interchangeable for the test purposes. The control groups are also measured at the same time as the experimental groups but no experimental variable is introduced. AFTER ONLY CONTROL GROUP DESIGN: No measurement is made before introducing the control group after the introduction of control group the measurement is taken. SAMPLING:-According to a famous statistician YULE the objective of sampling is to get maximum information about the parent population with minimum efforts. Types of Sampling: PROBABILITY SAMPLING NON-PROBABILITY SAMPLING A) Simple random sampling A) Convenience sampling B) Systematic sampling B) Quota sampling C) Stratified sampling C) Judgment sampling D) Area sampling D) Panel sampling SAMPLING UNIT:Sampling unit contains the particular units being studied and which generally reflects the desired response that is most of the traits that the universe has. SAMPLING PROCESS:Two general classes of methods exist for selecting samples. These are probability method and non-probability methods. PROBABILITY SAMPLING METHOD:Probability sampling methods are those in which every item in the universe has a known chance or probability of being chosen for the sample. This implies that the selection of items is independent of the controlled activity so that the items are selected on random basis. NON-PROBABILITY SAMPLING METHOD: This method does not provide all the items in the universe with a known change of being included in the sample. The selection process is at least partially subjective.

17

RESEARCH DESIGN OF PROJECT To know the public opinion I designed a questionnaire in which most of the questions were closed ended. Through closed ended questions one can get the clear view of an individual regarding particular situation or problem. The method that are used in my research are1. Survey method, and 2. Personal Interview

SOURCE OF INFORMATION:1. Primary sources 2. Personal survey was conducted in various locations in Delhi. METHODS OF COLLECTING DATA:Questionnaire and observations are the methods available, for collecting data. 1. QUESTIONAIRE METHODS: 1. Structured Non-disguised questionnaire: Most questionnaire studies made in marketing research are of this type. A structured interviews of this type introduced gives more reliable results. The purpose of the question is clear and thus undisguised. It is simple to administer and easy to tabulate and analyze. This questionnaire has also got the provision for alternative response that helps in marketing the questions clear. 2. Non-Structured Non-Disguised Questionnaire: Unstructured and undisguised questionnaire is distinguished by the fact that the purpose of study is clear but the questions remain open-ended. 3. Non-Structured Disguised Questionnaire: Many people are either unwilling or unable to give accurate response as to their own attitudes and motivations. To overcome this, disguised methods have been developed. 4. Structured-Distinguished Questionnaire: These are the used in the marketing research. They emerge as an attempt to secure the advantage of disguise in revealing the sub-conscious and hidden motives and attitudes along with the advantage in coding and tabulation common to structured disguised approach which typically rests
18

on propositions regarding the role of attitude in persons typical psychological makeup.

ADVANTAGES OF QUESTIONNAIRE METHOD Versatility: - Probably the greatest advantage of the questionnaire method is its versatility. Almost every problem of marketing research can be approached from the questionnaire point. It is helpful for getting any desired data. Therefore ideas related to the problem and the solution can be obtained by asking these people about the problems that they are facing. Speed and Cost: - Questionnaire is usually faster and cheaper than observing interviewee. It has moreover better gathering activities. As a result, less time is required in a questionnaire study. Accuracy: - The data or information obtained by questionnaire method is accurate. DISADVANTAGES OF QUESTIONNAIRE METHOD: Unwillingness of respondent to provide information: Most interviews are obtained at the sufferance of the respondent. In some cases potential respondent will refuse to take the time to be interviewed or will refuse to answer some specific questions about income or very personal subjects. Inability of respondent to provide information: Despite willingness to co-operate, many persons are unable to give accurate information on questions which the interviewer would like to ask. Respondent cannot furnish information because they are unable to remember the derived facts, or they have never known the facts. 2. OBSERVATION METHODS: Observation study can broadly be classified in five bases;
19

Whether the situation on which the observation is made natural or contrived. 1) Whether the observation is obstructive or unobtrusive. 2) Whether the observation is structured or unstructured. 3) Whether the factor of interest is direct or indirect. 4) Whether observation made by observers or by mechanical means. 5) Each of the classification has some impact on the quality of the data collected. UNIVERSE:The universe is the entire group of items researchers wishes to study and which they plan to generalize. This depends on the research objective.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

Q.1-Do you think social networking sites have become an important part of childrens life. (a) Yes (b) No (c) Cannot say Ans:a)Yes 87% b)No 10% c)Cannot say 3%

Important part of children's life

Yes No Cannot say 10%

3%

87%

Interpretation: According to above pie chart 87% people think that social networking sites have become an important part of childrens life.10% people think that these sites are not very important for children.3% respondent do not have any clear idea about interference of these sites in childrens life. Most of my respondent were elder brother/sister of children and they think that these networking sites are gradually becoming an important part of life of children. These days most of the children in metro cities are using internet and most of them regularly use social networking sites. Children ignores the outdoor activates just to save more time for chatting through internet. Even in small cities children are very much indulge in use of these sites. It is becoming art of childrens life because it provides them all these stuff like games, comics, movies etc.
21

Q.2- According to you which site is most preferred by children (a) Orkut Ans:a)Orkut b)Facebook c)Twitter d)Zapak (b) Facebook (c) Twitter 15% 67% 5% 13% (d)Zapak

Most preferred social networking website

Orkut 5% Facebook 13% Twitter 15% Zapak

67%

Interpretation :According to above pie chart 15% people think that Orkut is most preferred site among children. In view of 67% respondents Facebook is most preferred site among children. 5% respondents have chosen Twitter as most preferred site and rest 13% people have selected Zapak as most preferred site among children. It shows that Facebook is most preferred site among kids. It also shows that children are using the social networking sites for connecting with friends. Less percentage of zapak indicate that less children use social networking for gaming activities. The reason behind facebook being most preferred site is that because one can do many activities on facebook these activities are connecting with friends, Sharing of vedios and pictures, and playing online games. Thats why it is more preferred than Zapak.com because Zapak is only gaming website.

22

Q.3. Do you think children are being addicted to social networking sites (a) Yes (b) No (c) Cannot say Ans:a)Yes 85% b)No 7% c)Cannot say 8%

Addiction towards social networking sites

Yes 8% No Cannot say

7%

85%

Interpretation:Above pie chart shows that in view of 85% people , children are being addicted to use of social networking website. 7% people think that children are not being addicted to these sites. 8% people do not have a clear idea . The results are really very alarming because a major part of population think that children are being addicted to use of social networking websites. Most of the children spend more than two hours on social networking websites. Those who do not have internet facility in their home, they use the services of internet caf just for sake of using these sites and the children who pusses multimedia mobile phone they use these sites on their phone also. As addiction of any things is very much harmful so addiction of these sites among children is also very much bad for children.

23

Q.4- Which age group of children is most affected(a) 7-9 yrs Ans:a)7-9 yrs b)9-11 yrs c)11-13 yrs d)13-15 yrs (b) 9-11 yrs (c) 11-13 yrs 1% 2% 10% 87% (d)13-15 yrs

Most affected age group

7-9yrs 9-11yrs 11-13yrs 1% 2% 10% 13-15yrs

87%

Interpretation:|according to above pie chart 87% people have selected the age group of 13-15 years as most affected age group. 10% people have chosen the age group of 11-13 years as most affected age group. The age group of 7-9years and 9-11 years have been selected by 1 % and 2% respondents respectively. So the result comes out that as children moves forwards from age of 7 to 13, their rate of use of these sites increases and after the age of 13 years most of the children become addicted to the use of these sites Now a days most of the school provide computer education from 1 st standard. So when a child comes to the age of 13 years, he become expert in using computer and internet. At this early age he doesnt have very important work on computer so he passes the time by using social networking websites.
24

Q.5- Excess use of social sites is affecting the studies of children. Indicate your view on a scale of 1-4 (a) Highly effective (b) Effective (c) Ineffective (d) Highly ineffective Ans: a) Highly effective 32% b) Effective 58% c) Ineffective 9% d) Highly ineffective 1%

Interpretation:According to above pie chart 32% people think that the studies of children are very much affected due to use of the sites. 58% people think that the studies are affected but not very much.9% people think that excess use of these sites have a negligible effect on studies of children and 1 % people think that studies of children are not at all affected by excess use of these sites. So if we see the overall result that it can be inferred that in view of 90% people the study of children are being affected due to excess use of these sites. The studies are affected because children spend very much time on social networking websites and give lesser time to studies. Studies found that the students who checked facebook regularly at least for 15 minutes achieved lower grades

25

Q.6-According to you which types of changes are occurring in social behavior of children due to excess use of social networking sites(a) Less interactive (d) Update latest trend Ans:a)Less interactive b) Isolated behavior c) Negative attitude d) Update latest trend e) Others (b) Isolated behavior (e) Others 21% 36% 9% 29% 5% (c) Negative attitude

There are 29% people who think that these sites are helping children by updating them with latest trends. 5% people think that there are some other changes in social behavior of children. According to a paper presented at the 119th annual convention of American Psychological Association children who use social networking sites on a regular basis they face psychological disorder. Isolated behaviour may lead to depression and in may further lead to suicidal tendency
26

Q.7- Which type of health problem are created due to excess use of these sites (a) Eye problem (b) Backbone problem thinking capacity (d) Nervousness Ans:a) Eye problem 28% b) Backbone problem 8% c) Problem related to thinking capacity 17% d) Nervousness 9% e) All of the above 38% (c) Problem related to (e) All of the above

Interpretation: Above pie chart shows that in view of 28% people social networking sites are responsible for eye problems in children. 8% people think that excess use of these site is a cause of backbone problem in children. 17% people have selected their option regarding problem related to thinking capacity. There are 9% people who think that nervousness is a problem which is emerging among children due to excess use of these sites. 38% of total respondent think that excess use of these sites is creating all of these problems. So it can be interpreted that excess use of social networking websites is very much harmful for the health of children. It is generating many physical and psychological problems in children. Childrens physical and mental growth take place very rapidly till age of 15 years but due access use of social networking sites slows the growth rate, also it leads to many health problems.
27

These days different type of cyber crime is taking place through these sites. Many people misguide the children and humiliate them so it is important that parents should be aware about activities of their children on these sites. According to Pew Research Center 41% of social media using children have experience at least one negative outcome, also sex crime against minors through these sites are also increasing thats why parent should always keep an eye on the online activities of their children. It will help in preventing the humiliation of children.

15% 65%

Interpretation: In the above pie chart 65% people are agree with statement that these sites are cause of decay in moral values of children and 15% people think that there is no relation in decay of moral values and use of social networking sites. 20% of respondent do not have a clear idea about impact of these sites on moral values of children. So we can say that most of the people think that use of social networking sites is a big reason behind decay in moral values of children. The reason behind this decay are children like to live isolated they do not like to interact much with their parents or elders. Gradually they become unsocial. Also they learn many cheating technique and some time join some bad groups on these sites and learn bad habits.

29

Q.10-Do you suggest to kids to use social networking sides for purpose of accessing attractive study material and games(a) Yes (b) No Ans:a)Yes 85% b)No 15%

So we can interpret that most people think that use of these sites for study purpose is not bad. Now a day there are some group on social networking websites where the members share the study material and articles related to general knowledge and current affairs so children can use the social networking websites for improving their knowledge . They can also download the soft copies of different books. In this manner they can use the social networking websites for a constructive cause.

Q.11- How would you rate the preventive measures taken by Government regarding removal of obscenity from these sites(a) Sufficient (b) Insufficient Ans:a)Yes 49% b)No 51%

Preventive measures
Sufficient Insufficient

49% 51%

Interpretation: According to above pie chart 49% people think that preventive measures taken by government for removal of obscenity are sufficient while 51% people think that these measures are not sufficient. So in view of most of the people the preventive measures taken by Government are in sufficient. Now a days the obscenity is increasing day by day on these sites. One can easily upload and share obscene material on these sites. This obscenity creates vary bad impact o psychological behaviour of children. Government has taken several steps to remove obscene material from these sites but in view of majority of population these steps are not sufficient, Government should make some more strict rules.

31

Rules regarding age proof

Yes 16% No

84%

Interpretation: According to above pie chart 84% people feel the need of some rule regarding presentation of age proof for use of these sites while 16% respondents think that there should be no rule regarding age of user. There are many sites which contain the material which is not suitable for children. But there are no rule regarding presentation of age proof due to which children can easily access to these sites. Thats why most of the people think that there should be some rules for presentation of age proof before accessing these sites. Some sites have the rule of declaration of age but they dont ask for any age proof due to which minors access these sites by showing their age above 18 years. These sites should include the presentation of age proof through driving license number or voter id number. So that only adult person can access to these sites.

81%

Interpretation: According to above pie chart 81 % people think that secretly monitoring the online activities of kids is a wastage of time while 19% people disagree with the statement parents who try to secretly monitor their kids activities on these sites are wasting their time . So we can interpret that in view of most people to monitor the online activities of kids is not a wise idea. Most people monitor their kids activities through regular checking the internet history but these days children are very much smart they alter the history of internet usage. Also they access the filtered sites through proxy servers which means that more restrictions leads to wrong ways of accessing the internet. Thats why Parent should not monitor their childrens activities secretly but they should advise their children for giving reasonable time to internet.

Q.14-What can be the reason behind children attraction toward social networking sites(a) Less family interaction due to working parents (b) Nuclear family concept (c) Increasing pressure of best performance (d) To maintain status among friends (e) Others Ans:a) Less family interaction due to working parents b) Nuclear family concept c) Increasing pressure of best performance d) To maintain status among friends e) Others 29% 22% 20% 28% 1%

Attraction towards social networking

Less family interaction due to working parents Increasing pressure of best performance Others 1% 28% 29% Nuclear family concept To maintain status among friends

20%

22%

Interpretation: According to above pie chart 29% people think that less family interaction is a reason behind childrens attraction towards social networking websites. 22% people think that due to increasing nuclear family concept children are attracted towards these sites.20% people feel that increasing pressure of best performance is deviating children towards social networking sites. 28% people think that children use these

34

sites to maintain their status among friends and 1% people think that there are some other reason behind children attraction towards these sites. So we can interpret that more than 50 % people think that nuclear family concept and working parents are the biggest reason behind childrens attraction towards these sites. Now a day trend of nuclear family has increased also I most of the families both of the parents are working so they do not have enough time to communicate with children thats why children are attracted towards social networking websites. Also having account on social networking sites has become a mandatory condition for maintaining the status among friends.

35

15.What suggestion will you recommend for parents to keep their kids away from these sites(a)Encourage the kids to indulge in creative hobbies like painting, dancing etc. (b) Allow them to access only selected sites (c) Let them work under observation of parents/elders (d) others Ans:a) Encourage the kids to indulge in creative hobbies like painting, dancing etc. b) Allow them to access only selected sites c) Let them work under observation of parents/elders d) others

55% 23% 21% 1%

Suggestion for parents

Encourage the kids to indulge in creative hobbies like painting, dancing etc. Allow them to access only selected sites Let them work under observation of parents/elders others 1% 21% 55%

23%

Interpretation: According to above pie chart 55% people think that to keep children away from these sites, parent should encourage them to indulge in creative hobbies like painting dancing etc. 23 % people think that kids should be allowed to access only selected websites. 21% people think that let the children work under observation of parents/elders and 1% people think that there are some other ways like preventing children from using these sites, are more effective for distracting children from these sites.
36

So we can interpret that indulge the kids in creative hobbies is best way to keep them away from social networking websites also it will help in development of children. The parent should try to give more time to their children so that they might not feel isolated and dont become addicted of social networking websites. Parent should work on encouraging the children for playing outdoor games which will help in their physical growth also.

OBSERVATION TABLE
CHI SQUQRE TEST The chi square test is one of the simplest and most widely used non-parametric tests in statistical work. It makes no assumption about the population being sampled the quantity 2 describes the magnitude of discrepancy between the Theory and observation. If 2=0, this means that observed and expected frequencies coincide. Greater the value of 2, the greater would be the discrepancy between observed and expected frequency. 2= (O-E) 2/ E NULL HYPOTHESIS I will assume that there is no impact of excess use of social networking websites on social behaviour and health of children. If Tab2 Cal 2 Null Hypothesis will be accepted. If Tab2< Cal 2 Null Hypothesis will be Rejected.

CHAPTER-6
FINDING Most people think that children are being addicted to social networking sites at the age of 13-15 years. Studies of children are being affected due to excess use of social networking websites. Addiction of social networking websites is causing many physical and psychological problems in children. The cultural and moral values are decaying among children due to impact of social networking websites. Most people think that parent should be aware about online activities of their children so that they cannot be misguided. In view of most people the rules and regulation regarding use of these sites are not sufficient, there should be some more rules. The main reason behind childrens attraction towards these sites is decreasing family interaction. Encouraging the kids towards creative hobbies is the best way of distracting them from use of social networking websites.

41

CHAPTER-7

LIMITATIONS
There are some limitations in every research and our project is not an exception. Following are the limitations which we faced during our research project. LIMITATION OF TIME: The availability of time was one of the biggest limitations faced by us. LIMITATION ON THE PART OF THE RESPONDENTS: Some respondents were not interested in filling the forms. Some of them were not cooperative. Many people tried to avoid the questionnaire due to fear of disclosure of their details to some telemarketing firms. Female respondents feel hesitation in giving their contact number to us(unknown boys). LIMITATION OF COST: Money was also one of the major constraints while conducting this research. OTHER LIMITATIONS: Due to bad weather it was not easy to take time of respondents.

42

CHAPTER-8 CONCLUSION
Marketing research is the most important activity in the field of marketing. It is not easy to know the psychology of respondent, for this purpose the framing of questionnaire is very tough task. In spite of various limitations and problems in conducting my market research on IMPACT OF SOCIAL NETWORKING WEBSITES ON SMALL KIDS, I have tried my level best to find the most relevant information about the views of respondents. I have also used some mathematical and analytical tools like Chi Square test and Pie Chart to analyze and interpret the result. The conclusion which I found after my research is that most of people think that children are being addicted to the social networking websites. Most of my respondents think that parents should try to enhance the creativity of children. Another point was that children can use these sites for study purpose but they should not be addicted. I found that marketing research is a challenging as well as interesting task. This research helped me in gaining several ideas and practical experience of marketing field .

43

CHAPTER-9
SUGGESTIONS

This is the age of technology; even small kids are not unaware about internet and social networking websites. But the excess use of these sites is very much harmful for children. So on the basis of findings of this report we would like to give following suggestion: It is not easy to completely distract children from these sites but by encouraging them towards creative hobbies we can prevent the excess use of these sites. Children should be allowed to use social networking websites for accessing study material. Parent should try to give more time to children so that they would not feel isolated and not attracted towards these sites. Parents should provide children information regarding cyber crime and frauds. Government should make some rules and regulation regarding removal of obscene material from these sites.

Word of Thanks
At the end we thank everybody who helped us directly or indirectly in doing this marketing research. We also thank readers and solicit their comment on our work. Very humbly we request our readers to let us know about any of the mistakes we did during the research and also which is apparent in the report. Last but not the least we are grateful to the respondents who spare their valuable time for us, without response of whom this work would not have concluded.
