Greece Assignments
Choose assignments from different categories (you cannot choose all assignments from the same category unless it is worth 10.) Choose assignments from different categories which total a value of 10. Choose: Value: Three 2s and a 4, or 2 = 10 points Two 2s and a 6, or 4 = 20 points Two 4s and a 2, or 6 = 30 points one 4 and one 6, or 10 = 50 points One 10

Geography
1. Do a one page write-up identifying similarities between ancient Greek society (social classes, roles and the arts) and societies of today. (Could be here in North America or in other regions of the world.) (2) 2. Pretend youre visiting the city of Athens during its peak. Describe what youve observed during the week. Include places youve visited, what the landscape looked like, etc. Drawings are beneficial (4). (At least a page typed.) 3. Draw a map showing the principal sites in the Persian Wars. Identify those instances in the wars where critical decisions were made which determined outcomes. Examine the options available at the time and hypothesize as to the possible consequences if other decisions had been made. (6) 4. Design a board game or electronic game where you lead players through a lesson on Greek geography, Greek Wars and Greek culture to demonstrate how they are interconnected. We must be able to play the game (10).

Events/ Content
1. Identify the characteristics of a great leader in Ancient Greece (ex. Alexander the Great). (2) 2. Write a song, and record it or play it live, based on an event or leader of Ancient Greece of your choice (ie. Alexander the Great, Leonidas ). (4) 3. Tell the complete story of Ancient Greek history, from the Minoan period through the end of the Persian wars, in comic strip form. Use colour and dialogue. (Minimum 8 pics. with dialogue) (6) 4. Create a ColesNotes study guide to the Peloponnesian Wars, Persian Wars, or Alexander the Great. Make sure to cover the major topics such as lead up, causes, major events during and the results of the events. Should look like a book; bound, with cover, table of contents, headings, page numbers, maps. (6) 5. Tell the complete story of one of the following in the form of a childrens story book. (Limited text on each page, illustrations to accompany the text. Min. 8 pages) (10) a. Persian Wars b. Peloponnesian Wars

Culture
1. Draw and label your own temple using Greek Architecture. (2) 2. Write a postcard from the perspective of someone in Ancient Greece (a person of power, a citizen, a woman or a slave). Dont forget to illustrate the postcard with elements of Greek culture (4) 3. Create your own fresco that depicts a certain belief of the Ancient Greeks (use paint, large white paper) A half page typed write-up must accompany it describing the fresco and the significance of the events in the fresco on Ancient Greece. (6) 4. Greek Living Museum- Analyze Greek culture and create your own Greek museum by creating, drawing, or finding pictures of architecture and cultural items included your famous museum (ie. Clothing, temples, artwork, myths, information on wars, maps etc. must include at least 10 items and educate someone about all aspects of Ancient Greece). (10) OR Build a replica of a Greek building (Parthenon, Greek temple, one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World that was in Greece, Greek Amphitheatre). The building should be constructed out of a solid material (Wood, clay). A 1 page write-up should be included explaining the history of the building. (10)

Extra Credit Assignment


Instructions: Once you have finished your Totally 10 assignment you can complete an extra credit assignment as an enrichment project. 1. Create a physical timeline, tracing the periods of Ancient Greece from the Minoan period through to the end of Alexander. Include pictures (this could be done with information and pictures hung on a line with clothespins or on pieces of chart paper) and dates of important events. (10) 2. Complete one of the above mentioned projects with a value of 6 or 10.
