HOW WILL YOU SERVE ?

Taking the Stars and Stripes to Madison County for the sake of the Gospel
When is this? ! Wednesday July 4, 2012 2pm -10pm. However you do not have to serve or ! attend the whole day. Sign up sheets include various shifts.

EVERYONE WHO IS ATTENDING / SERVING AT THIS EVENT IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND OUR INFORMATIONAL MEETING ON JULY 1ST AT 5PM IN THE WORSHIP CENTER AT OUR LEXINGTON CAMPUS

What is this?! ! In years past Ashland has hosted an outstanding fourth of July event called Stars ! and Stripes. This event served as a free gift to our community and has led to ! many opportunities for ministry and outreach. This year we are taking this gift ! to Richmond Kentucky in an effort to establish the Ashland presence and ! hospitality in Madison County where we are currently planting a church. Where is this?
! Lake Reba in Richmond KY (Parkview Way Richmond KY 40475) Abbreviated Directions. Take I-75 to exit 90a. Take the Robert R. Martin Bypass toward Richmond (approx. 4 miles) Take a left onto Gibson Bay Dr. The street dead ends into the park and Ashlands Hospitality tent will be right in front of you. Detailed Directions are attached.

Why are we doing this? ! One of our church planting efforts is in Madison County. Each week we have ! members of our congregation who meet in Richmond KY for worship. At this time ! our members in Madison County are striving to establish an Ashland presence in ! the community. The Richmond Fireworks Extravaganza is the largest event in ! Madison County each year. By showing up and sacricially serving the literally ! huge numbers of people who attend this event you will be helping us establish ! the kind of Christ - centered presence we need in Madison County. The city of ! Richmond has already expressed being overwhelmed with our desire to serve ! them! ! Why should I be involved with this? ! First of all, this is an easy way you can be apart of our congregational mission in ! planting a church in Madison County. And when it comes to our efforts in ! Madison County and this event specically, our folks in Madison County need ! your to help in ministering to the huge numbers of people who will show up ! for the Fireworks Extravaganza. Our goal is to go over the top in grace, ! compassion, and hospitality. To be effective at this we need an army of people ! from Ashland who meet in Lexington to help with this strategic outreach. Where to go when you get there? ! Each service team will have stations set up throughout the park. However, our ! event coordinator Mary Wolford will be at our Hospitality Tent to direct you !to ! your area of service and to answer any questions you may have upon arrival. How long will the event last? ! The whole event is from 2-10pm. However, you can serve at anytime ! throughout the day. You can also serve and then leave if needed.

When are the reworks? ! The reworks usually occur between 9:30 pm -10:00 pm. However we ! suggest that you arrive early to get the best seats. What will be there for children? ! The whole event will be family friendly. Chick-l-a will be sponsoring a Kids Zone ! with with slides and inatables. Lake Reba also has its own water park ! Paradise Cove that will be open. Do I need to bring my own lawn chairs? ! While we will have some seating at our Hospitality Tent, it would be a good idea ! for you to being lawn chairs and or blankets for you and your family to ensure ! you all have seating. What about food? ! We will be serving hamburgers, hotdogs, and drinks for for free to Ashland ! members at the hospitality tent throughout the day. There will also be venders ! such as Chick-l-a and others throughout the park if you wish to pay for food. ! ! What about Music? ! There will be a concert series that begins at 2pm and will run through the day. ! Our very own Randy Westbrook and the Westbrook Trio will be playing at 6pm. Do I have to serve the whole time? ! Absolutely not. We encourage you to serve in one two hour !shifts. Our goal is ! to establish and Ashland presence at the event and we also want you to enjoy ! the event when you are not serving we encourage you to enjoy the festivities ! throughout the park and hangout with the Ashland family at the Hospitality Tent. What if I have physical problems that limit my ability to serve? ! If you simply join us at the Hospitality Tent you will be serving. This is where the ! Ashland Family will hangout and fellowship throughout the day. Our goal is to ! establish and Ashland presence in Madison County and by attending this event ! you will be helping us achieve this important goal. Will there be car pooling from Lexington campus? ! Yes Roger Holland and our deacons will be arranging the a car pool from ! Lexington. Steve Cummins will be running the church vans. Please contact ! Roger or Steve to let them know you would like to ride a van down or car pool ! with other Ashland members. We will be running a shuttle from Ashlands parking area to our tent for those who ! are unable to walk very far.

Is there a number to call if I need something during the event? ! Yes. Mary Wolford is our event coordinator and will be on call at 8598933910. Or ! you can call Ryan Finch at 8595097663. How can you be involved? ! Our sign up sheets reveal a variety of service opportunities. You can sign up for ! 2 hour time slots and feel free to sign up for more than one or even the whole ! day if that works for you. Who should I talk to about being involved? ! Talk to your BFG leader about the task that was given to your BFG. If you are not ! in a BFG call Mary Wolford at 8598933910 or the church ofce at 8592664341 What should I wear? ! Everyone from Ashland will get a I LOVE MADISON COUNTY t-shirt. This will ! help the people of Madison County recognize the Ashland family. The shirts will ! be like walking billboards with our churchs information to communicate Ashlands ! heart to serve this community in Jesus name. The Fireworks Extravaganza will take place at Lake Reba in Richmond Kentucky. You can get to Lake Reba from the Eastern Bypass off of I75S or Irvine Rd (52). Driving Directions from Ashland Avenue Baptist Church Lexington.
Head northwest toward Wellington Way Exit the traffic circle onto W Reynolds Rd Turn left onto Nicholasville Rd Slight right to merge onto KY-4 E/New Circle Rd Take exit 15 for US-25 S/US-421 S toward Richmond Turn right onto US-25 S/US-421 S/Richmond Rd Continue onto Athens Boonesboro Rd Take the ramp onto I-75 S Take exit 90A to merge onto US-25 S/US-421 S/Lexington Rd toward Richmond/ Irvine Continue to follow US-25 S/US-421 S Turn left onto Gibson Bay Dr Turn left onto Park Pl Dr Take the 2nd right onto Parkview Way

Where do I go when I get there?


Assigned parking for Ashland will be available as you go up Gibson Bay Drive. Look for signs and Ashland members directing traffic. We will also be shuttling our members to and from Ashlands Hospitality Tent throughout the day. If you want to just walk to the Hospitality Tent, Parkview Way will eventually dead end Ashlands Hospitality Tent will be at the dead end. You will see big signs.
