CAREER IN RETAIL
Retail is clearly the sector that is poised to show the highest growth in the next five years. The sector is set for a revolution, as both the present players and new entrants are gearing up to explore the market. This sector contributes 10% of India's GDP and the current growth rate is 8.5%. The present size of the organized retailing sector is approximately 3% and is expected to grow to 25-30% by the year 2010. There are about 300 new malls, 1500 supermarkets and 325 departmental stores currently under construction. Many players are coming up with huge investments, due to which the present 12 million mom-and-pop shops and kirana stores fear losing their business. Most predictions say that the sector might reach to US$ 400-600 billion by the year 2010. Retail sector is expected to offer 50,000 jobs in the coming five years. The sector has vacancies from the entry level to senior management level.

IMPROVE YOUR PERSONALITY

Be a Leader! If you want to be a leader, you will have to practice and act to make yourself a leader. It calls for efforts and persistence from you. No one else can practice the art of leadership on your behalf & make you a leader. You have to will your way & do what you have programmed to do, what you know is essential to do. If you gain mastery over inertia & distractions with firm will power in the initial stages, it will soon become a habit with you. You will then find yourself doing the toughest & most difficult deeds in an effortless manner. Success comes with practice, more practice and greater experience. There is no shortcut to success. You have to sweat & work hard. No one has gained and, what is more important, maintained leadership without hard work. Make certain that you remain cheerful all the time. Remind yourself of smile and retain the smile on your lips and eyes. In order to put it into practice, stand in front of a mirror and smile. Watch the difference between a smiling face and a frowning face. When you smile, people notice you. They develop a warmth, liking and sympathy for you. They relax, feel at ease and get attracted by your smile. Start applying the techniques of leadership on those whom you come across daily. Each day you meet and deal with many people. Take an interest in them and see how you can make them feel happy. In day-to-day life, you get hundreds of opportunities to put into practice all the leadership principles you have studied in details & you should grasp those opportunities and make the best use of them.

Etiquette Tip: Dude, Where's My Salad? We are so used to having a salad before our entree, but in a formal dinner the salad comes after the main entree. And if you've ever been confused about which fork to use, here's a tip. Since you start with the utensils on the outside and work your way in, the salad fork in a formal dinner is the one closest to the plate

JUST FOR FUN

IQ Assessment A little intelligence test for you- no cheating There are 10 questions. Do not look at the answer found at the end of this document that would be cheating. Write each of your answers down, it makes a difference. GOOD LUCK! 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Some months have 30 days, some months have 31 days. How many months have 28 days? If a doctor gives you3 pills and tells you to take one pill every half an hour, how long would it be before all the pills had been taken? Divide 30 by half and add ten. What would you get? If you had only one match and entered a COLD and DARK room, where there was an oil heater, an oil lamp and a candle, which would you light first? If you drove a bus with 43 people on board from Chicago and stopped at Pittsburgh to pick up 7 more people and drop off 5 passengers and at Cleveland to drop off 8 passengers and pick up 4 more and eventually arrive at Philadelphia 20 hours later, what's the name of the driver?

Answer 1. All of them. Every month has at least 28 days. 2. 1 hour. If you take a pill at 1 o' clock, then another at 1.30 and the last at 2'clock, they will be taken in 1 hour. 3. 70. Dividing by half is the same as multiplying by 2. 4. The Match 5. You are the driver
