All children need a moral compass to either reinforce what is being taught at home or correct wrong morals regrettable presented in our weaker moments. (Proverbs 22:6) 2. All children need to gain the necessary wisdom to truly succeed in this world. (Proverbs 19:23) 3. All children need to understand that doing right doesnt mean it has to be uncool and burdensome. Yes, it can be fun! (Psalm 37:4) 4. All children need to prepare for eternity since there is much more to life than what we will experience on this earth. (John 11:23-24) 5. Registration for children can be done online at www.emmnauelbiblechurch.net; should you have any questions, they can be directed to the church office at 908-852-7305. Why Vacation Bible School? In terms of spending their time away from school, there are plenty of options available for our children over the summer. However, our children have less than three months available for summer recreation compared to the approximate nine months of school so they must choose wisely. So why Vacation Bible School? Having two lovely daughters (ages 12 and 10), I have thought seriously about this question. Here is a succinct list of the most important reasons of which I can think to answer the question, Why Vacation Bible School?:

pursue STEM education and careers. According to Ernest Jackson the Saint Michael School Principal and U. S, Army Veteran, This is a life changing opportunity that Cameron experienced; she gained a semester worth of Math, Science, Engineering and Technology in just three days. The entire Saint Michael School is very proud of her just for being selected and successfully completing the camp but when we attended her graduation and discovered that she was selected for several leadership roles that was just icing on the cake. What a wonderful opportunity for this student, hopefully next year we will have many more students attend.

he Saint Michael School (Netcong) Forensics Team proudly reclaimed the coveted Ronetco Cup in the semi-annual Northwest New Jersey Forensics League competition held at Reverend Brown School in Sparta earlier this month. 28 students from 4 area schools pitted their oratorical skills against each other as they presented their interpretations of famous speeches. In preparation for the competition, each participant was required to memorize a 2 to 6 minute selection as well as to give a brief introduction describing the actual circumstances under which the speech was originally given. Gestures, vocal variety, and sincerity of delivery were among the criteria used to judge each participant's presentation.

By Josh Lashley mportant attributes such as dedication, a commitment to their teammates, a focus on steady improvement in all aspects of the sport, and the willingness to meet and overcome tough opposition all apply whether discussing the West Morris Central High School girls or boys lacrosse programs. This spring, both teams left their marks in a positive way on the field. Rob Herman, the head coach of the WMC girls lacrosse team, notes some of the contests that were pivotal for his squad this spring. Westfield was a close fought game that we won 13-12, Herman said. We scored the game-winning goal with 38 seconds remaining. Against Immaculate Heart Academy, we were down, 7-4, at the half and we won 14-13 with an isolation play with nine seconds remaining. We defeated Northern Highlands, 1310, in the (NJSIAA North Group III Sectional) quarterfinals. They entered the game with a 14-2 record. Also, our two wins versus Morris Knolls (including a 16-14 victory in the Morris County Tournament). WMC finished the season with an overall record of 10-11. They advanced to the

A Look At West Morris Central High School Girls and Boys Lacrosse
Morris County Tournament semifinals before losing to Chatham and made it to the North Group III semifinal round before being defeated by Mendham. Several student-athletes on the roster demonstrated their leadership capabilities this spring. Megan Monaco, a senior midfielder and captain was our top scorer and assist leader, Herman said. Emily Delaney, a senior midfielder, was an offensive threat and ground ball leader. Shes also a captain and is going to play at CW Post. Michaela Domaratzky, a senior captain, was a do-itall player, standing out on offense, on draw controls and on ground balls. Erin Gutkind, a senior captain at midfield and defense had a lot of positive energy, speed and motivation. Pilar Gonzalez, a senior goalie, was aggressive in and out of the goal circle. She was vocal, with a lot of competitive energy. The senior class of 2012 will be missed, but the program will move forward and Herman is optimistic about the 2013 season. There are quite a few returning letter winners and starters for next spring as well as others looking to make their mark by filling in for the graduating players, Herman said. The freshmen had a great season, with a lot of energetic, motivated and talented players. BOYS LACROSSE: Just as coach Herman witnessed improvements in many aspects of his team as the season progressed, Rob Goodwin, head coach for the West Morris Central boys lacrosse squad saw his team get better and better as well. In fact, in terms of winloss record, the boys team had an overall mark of 11-9. Last season they had a record of 8-11. WMC also advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA State Group III Tournament before losing to Mount Olive by a score of 13-12. Certain games stand out in Goodwins mind as being highly important this season. The two Mendham victories, Herman said. One of which was for the annual Pooley Trophey, given out to the victor of the game between the sister schools, are probably the victories that stand out the

most. There was certainly no lack of leadership on the roster for West Morris this spring. Kevin Reidinger, a junior, stood out by working hard on the field and excelling on the field, Herman said. Our four captains, Shawn Barnes, Joe DeBiasse, Nick McKaba, and Chris Carfaro also led the team by working hard and pushing the many sophomores who started for us to excel. Next season could be yet another winning one for West Morris if the student-athletes can work as well together as they did this year. We have lots of sophomore experience returning for next year, especially at midfield, and attack with Matt Pruss, Jeremy Angle, Alex Kennedy, Matt Carfaro, Maxx Evans and Ryan Muscatella, Goodwin said. Also, our Most Valuable Player is returning-Kevin Reidinger.

n May the 50+ Club of Chester hit the road again. This time we took the coach to The Big Apple to see the Broadway hit production of JERSEY BOYS.. Fortythree members laughed and cried as the lives of FRANKIE VALLI AND THE FOUR SEASONS unfolded before them. Valli was born in Newark and during his youth he and his friends were in and out of trouble. But the boys got themselves straightened out and hit the big time. The music in the show was fantastic because it included all his famous hits. Following the show the members enjoyed dining at the Public House in Chester.

Panther Valley Golf and Country Club Celebrates Its Rich History

By Steve Urena efore golf lovers were hitting the links, the Panther Valley Golf and Country club was originally a part of the estate of Clendenin James Ryan Jr., grandson of New York City financier Thomas "Fortune" Ryan. Ryan had a bit of a reputation in those days, as he was the last of the robber barons of Wall Street. The estate was then known as Panther Ledge Farm and it was a 4,000 acre cattle farm for Black Angus cows to be bred and raised. Fast forward to 1967, and the blueprint for the 18hole golf course would be designed by Robert Trent Jones. The development of the course was a joint venture between a Travelers Insurance Company and East Orange native Frank H. Taylor. The club would open two years later in 1969 and would feature a championship quality course for all golf aficionados to enjoy. Originally, the course started out with 9-holes and then quickly transformed into a full 18-hole golf course in 1970. By 1971 all members of the club were of one class and they were all men. There were thirty-eight regular members, forty-one non- resident members, two junior members, and four junior-combined members. There are still two members from that first class still playing at the Panther Valley Golf and Country Club in members Donald Berlin and Fred Gallagher. The club would also feature

17 tournaments that pitted the best golfers in NJ against each other for an ultimate prize. The club was slowly growing and becoming a big hit for the county. As the club grew and evolved, a group of members started exploring the possibility of buying the club from Taylor and the Travelers Insurance Company, so it could be turned it into a private club. The Panther Valley Golf and Country Club would soon become incorporated and A Bi- Law Committee would be implemented for its new vision. Frank H. Taylor and his company were having financial issues during this time and the Matthew Phillips organization was brought in to manage Panther Valley. Marcel Mersch and Dick Pulling were the forces behind the negotiations to purchase the club from Taylor and his associates. In 1977, the sale was made final and the club had become owned by several members of the club. Though this was a pivotal point in the history of the club, monetary issues would soon follow. From 19771988 Problems would arise with club managers and chefs and several buildings on the course would be abandoned all together. Temperance Hall would burn down due to a faulty electric heater and water damage occurred and infestations reared its ugly head. It was a troubling time for the club but after some hard times they would soon turn lemons into lemonade.

Throughout the 90s into today, membership would grow and renovations would be made to turn the club into the thriving business that it is now. Currently the club is run by PGA professional David Pasternak and the club is always looking for new members. Pasternak is an avid golfer and has won PGAs golf professional of the year award in 2007 and 2011. The club is still located right next to the Panther Valley Mall and is a sight to behold. If you would like to check out the course you can visit www.panthervalleyclub.com

hether cooking on a gas or charcoal grill, at home, at a park or at a tailgate, grilling provides an unmistakable aroma, a sizzling sound and maximum flavor. And research shows that when it comes to grilling, nearly three out of four Americans choose beef as the meat they grill the most often; but nearly 30 percent are still looking for more information on how to harness the power of the grill. For guaranteed, delicious results when grilling beef, try following these three easy steps: 1. Choose Your Cut Some of the best cuts for grilling include naturally tender ribeye, top loin (aka strip) and ground beef. Flank steak is also an excellent choice after a dip in a tenderizing marinade. Tip: Rubs and marinades are easy ways to add flavor and tenderize. 2. Grill Place beef on grates and grill, covered, turning occasionally. Test doneness with meat thermometer: Cook burgers to 160F and steaks to 145F for medium rare or 160F for medium. Tip: Turn steaks with long handled tongs instead of a fork. Do not press down on steaks or burgers as flavorful juices will be lost. ncreasingly, people are looking for more natural approaches to help relieve painful conditions rather than relying on pain medications with their myriad of side effects. Acupuncture has no side effects and can be helpful for treating all types of pain, regardless of what is causing the pain or where it is located. Some studies show that the pain relief Acupuncture provides can last for months or even indefinitely. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain before and after Acupuncture treatment for pain shows dramatic decreases in brain activity up to 70%. This decrease in brain activity in certain areas of the brain is thought to be the reason for the reduction of pain caused the Acupuncture treatments. Other studies have shown that the levels of endorphins dramatically increase after Acupuncture treatments. Endorphins are our bodys natural pain killers. In addition to reducing pain, Acupuncture also hastens the healing process by increasing circulation and attracting white blood cells to an injured area. The basis of Acupuncture is expressed in this famous Chinese saying: Bu tong ze tong, tong ze bu

tong which means free flow: no pain, no free flow: pain. In other words, any kind of pain or illness represents an obstruction in the normal flow of Qi or life force (energy). Simply put, Acupuncture moves Qi, hence flow is restored and healing begins. Lets take a look at Acupuncture and low back pain. Did you know that low back pain affects approximately 75 90% of people in this country at some point in their lives? The common cold holds the number one position as the most common ailment causing lost work days. Most people seek out Acupuncture to treat low back pain more than any other illness. How Chinese Medicine Views Low Back Pain Almost 85% of the low back cases are classified by Western physicians as nonspecific. When a patient is seen by an Acupuncturist, the back pain is looked at from Oriental medical perspective and is seen as a disruption of the flow of Qi within the area, associated with a specific imbalance and then treated according to the individuals signs and symptoms. The disruption or obstruction of the flow of Qi that results in low back pain is usually associated with

Acupuncture and Pain Management

the following three imbalances or disharmonies within the body: 1. Weak or deficient Kidney Qi In oriental medicine, the lower back is referred to as the dwelling of the Kidneys. The majority of chronic low back pain conditions are associated with Kidney deficiency. This type of condition usually manifests as a dull pain that comes and goes and is aggravated by overuse and overtiredness and improves with rest. 2. Stagnation of Qi and Blood When the flow of Qi within the channels or meridians along the back that traverse the lumbar region becomes congested or obstructed, it is referred to as the stagnation of Qi and blood. Oriental medicine believes that if the Qi doesnt flow eventually the blood will not flow. Stagnation of Qi and blood causes a stabbing fixed pain that is often worse with rest and better with movement. The pain from stagnation of Qi and blood is also tender when touched and often is accompanied by tightness and stiffness. 3. Invasion of Cold and Dampness Cold, damp type low back pain is often worse in the morning and when the weather is cold and damp. Contrary to what Western medicine believes, weather can definitely affect pain when it is derived from an invasion of Cold and Dampness. This type of pain improves with movement and the application of heat. Stiffness and contraction of back muscles that are aggravated by rest indicates cold predominance while swelling, numbness and a heavy sensation are indicative of dampness. Studies on Acupuncture and Low Back Pain Now there are studies that support the efficacy of Acupuncture for low back pain. While acupuncture has been readily accepted as a viable option for low back pain in modern mainstream medicine, there had been little research to prove that it works. That is no longer the case. In a German study, published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, 1,162 adults with chronic, lower back pain were divided into groups treated with the standard pharmaceutical and exercise therapy commonly used in Western medicine and Acupuncture. The researchers reported that Acupuncture provided relief and lasting benefit to nearly twice as many lower back pain patients as drugs and exercise. Forty-eight percent of the Acupuncture patients reported at least a

1/3 decrease in pain along with improvement in their ability to function, versus only 27% of the patients treated with conventional Western methods. As we all know, it is very easy to become addicted to pain medications particularly when taking these medications for long term use, which is often the case with back pain patients. In another recent study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, researchers from the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine analyzed 33 studies covering more than 2,100 patients from around the world on Acupuncture for low back pain. They found Acupuncture provided definite pain relief in the both the short and long term after the end of Acupuncture treatment. lueberries are often touted for their nutritional benefits. his month I would introduce to you my friend David Johnson. David and I talk regularly over political issues. David's insights into the future of the conservative movement in the Republican party was so compelling I thought it best if David shared his thoughts in his own words. David has a degree in computer science and has been a Wall St. analyst for over 15 years. David, an astute observer of the political scene became more active in politics with the birth of the Tea Party Movement. David writes mostly about economic issues and at times refers to himself as an armchair economist. By David Johnson I thank Tom Lotito for inviting me to be a guest writer for his regular column. He asked me to write about Ron Pauls impact on the Republican Party, but to get there we need to first talk about the left-right boxing metaphor that festoons this page.

Rewriting Left vs. Right

To me, American politics is not about left or right. Its about the philosophies of Locke and Nozick vs. those of Hegel and Marx. Its about individualism vs. collectivism; that what we morally may or may not do to each another limits what we may do through the apparatus of the state; that all rights are individual rights and therefore corporations do not rise to the level of personhood, nor do other collectives such as church, labor unions, seniors, Hispanics, gays etc. The immutable unit of liberty and equality is the individual. In contrast, its the statists and collectivists who perpetuate the left-right paradigm in order to frame the debate and thereby control the outcomes. Its a contrived Hegelian dialectic that puts forward a thesis and anti-thesis, both being false choices that lead to the exact same statist objective; centralized control. Its the mere illusion of choice. These are the tactics of collectivists, Marxists, progressives, globalists, moralists and corporatists alike. To prove my point, just look at the statists who control left and right. Theyre the crony-capitalists, labor unions and wealth distributors; little more than rentseekers lobbying for their fair share of anothers wealth. Its the nanny-state that knows whats best for you. Its the banking cartel that shifts the bad bets of the financial elite onto the backs of the taxpayers. Its the moralists who seek to use the power of the state to enforce their moral prescriptions. Its the military industrial complex that perpetuates war and fear for profit. This brings us finally to the only national Republican candidate who attracts entire stadiums of young people wherever he goes. Im talking about hundreds of thousands of next generation Republicans who have joined the party precisely because of the Liberty Movement lead by Ron Paul. Im talking about 500+ delegates going to the Tampa convention who believe in constitutional fidelity, limited government,

fiscal responsibility, sound money, auditing the Fed, protecting civil liberties and adopting a more prudent foreign policy. The Liberty Movement is not about left or right. These young Republicans understand that its about individual liberty vs. the leviathan state. During the George W. Bush years, there were zero libertarian principals in the Republican Party. In the last four years, no other political movement has done more to define what it means to be a conservative Republican than Ron Paul and his Liberty Movement. Thanks to Ron Paul, the libertarian principals that Barry Goldwater promoted and Ronald Reagan considered the very core of conservatism, are finally back. These young Republicans are the future of the party and they will ultimately transform it from the bottom up. Send comments to: johnson.david.x@gmail.com.

leventh Hour Rescue announces Building Hope, a new Capital Fund Raising Campaign intended to fund the building of a new kennel facility located at 484 Route 46 Budd Lake, NJ 07828. The Planning Board of Mount Olive has graciously approved all required variances needed for the construction of the new home for rescued animals. Currently Eleventh Hour Rescue is leasing an old, run down boarding facility in Randolph NJ. The kennel runs are all aged, cramped, outdated, and in need of extensive repairs. In addition, the owners of the property have it listed it for sale. The goal of Building Hope is to create a comfortable haven and a place of Hope. Cold concrete and chain link enclosures are a thing of the past. Specifically designed with their animals in mind, the modern state of the art facility will be a healthier environment both physically and mentally for our animals. The new Doggy Dens will be equipped with heated floors, solid enclosures and free access to the outdoors for fresh air or to simply lay and feel the sun warm their fur. In order for Eleventh Hour to continue their mission of saving animals on death row, to protect the lives currently in their care and to secure their future, they need your support.
