What is NARUC?
The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) is a quasi-governmental, nonprofit organization founded in 1889. Membership: State Commissions engaged in the regulation of utilities and carriers in 50+ states & territories; Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Federal Communications Commission are also members. Associate Members in over 20 other countries. What our members regulate: Electricity, natural gas, telecommunications, and water utilities.

What does NARUC do?

NARUC International
In late 1990s, NARUC expanded its outlook beyond the U.S. to promote a better understanding of the complex issues that public utility regulators encounter all over the world. NARUCs members expertise helps create and strengthen the institution of an independent regulator and provide opportunities for exchange of information and experience Bilateral Partnerships, Workshops, Policy/Dialogue Forums, Formal Trainings, Internships/Job Shadows, Study Tours

What does a Regulator Need to be Successful?

NARUCs International Work in Clean Energy


Goals: To explore common issues that regulators around the world are facing when designing/implementing national policies regarding clean energy To facilitate international and regional sharing of experience and lessons learned through:

U.S. Based Internships - August 2011


Internship Overview: 14 Interns from 12 countries were hosted by 7 different U.S. Commissions Agendas were customized per the interns needs Provided an opportunity for the interns to teach each other concepts learned at DC based workshop

Regulatory Capacity Assessments


U.S. and regional experts will be sent to the host commissions for short periods to provide direct assistance to help with clean energy priority areas
